Hello Everyone,

Turkey month this month, then Christmas. Can you believe it?

Going to start a rotation with Michelle and her sister today. Hope I get through it. Have all the DVD's out and ready to go. Anyone else?

Laura, Great workouts with P90X! You are amazing. WOW! It's just the beginnings of snow for you, what are you going to do when it really snows? When you got out of there, where did you go? Enjoy the Halloween party with your girls. I bet it was a lot of fun. Also have fun dancing.

Deborah, I am so ready, (YIKES, I think) for Insanity. Dec. will be the month I plan on doing them.

So good to hear you are up and about. I can't believe you worked out! You are hardcore for sure! Atreides is a very lucky horse. Very proud of him crossing that scary creek. I don't blame the horses for complaining.LOL

Take care,

Janie

Just posting again so you can see the new thread to post to.

Getting ready to hot tub in 31 degree weather. (mighty fine)

Plan on starting Michelle's rotation today. High Intensity Step/Chest & Back.

Came back to report that I did High Intensity Step/Chest & Back. Had to modify a little bit on the step workout. Going back to hot tub. LOL

Have a great day,

Janie

oops just posted on the October thread!!

Janey:wow when you say it like that it is hard to believe! It will be the New Year before we know it! WHERE DOES THE TIME GO?????

Is it really NOVEMBER??? Can't believe it. Thanks for the reminder!

Will try and check in tonight after I pack ... Laura, I posted earlier today at the end of Oct, too

It's OK you guys. Maybe starting in Dec. we'll just have it read "Lurker's Invitation". That way we don't have to worry about putting a month/time on it. That means only one more time we would have to switch. What do you think?

Take care of yourselves,

Janie

Had a nice weekend - carved pumpkins with my DH and had a great time - lit them up - actually lit all my candles around the house in anticipation of Halloween. We were going to go out but then changed our minds and snuggled up together at home. Next day - rather quiet with DH out of the house on business. I wasn't gung ho to clean as I usually am on Saturday but managed to get through it. We dressed up to go out to the party and stayed out till 1am. I was ready to go sooner but Rex seemed to be having such a great time we decided to stay longer - until I think we had actually stayed a little too long. The party was great fun though and I met some really nice people.

Sounds as if everyone had a pleasant holiday weekend - I'm glad.

Shadowpup - we didn't get one single trick or treater either. We never do - DH also wanted to buy candy in the unlikely event someone would happen to drop by - it is a little suspicious - probably had an ulterior motive - don't ya think? I'm glad you are feeling better - the horses sound pleased as well.

Well - I shall be starting Michelle's rotation this evening. I really enjoy HIS - I used to be frustrated with the step portion a little bit when Cathe taught one little part of it with her back to us (very frustrating:mad:) but now that I'm up to speed I love the routine. I did the 5th timesaver workout over the weekend - which had a ton of clips from Legs & Glutes in it which is one that I don't have - looks like a really great workout and I really enjoyed the timesaver version as well.

Janie - the hot tub sounds great. I want to dip my toe in there too!!! Congratulations on the Insanity purchase - I can hear how excited you are in your post. Like Laura said - you have to keep us informed about how you like it. New workout DVDs - ain't nothing better!

Laura - glad you enjoyed yourself over the weekend - I'm glad the snow didn't stop any of the festivities from happening.

I have to switch out the house with my Thanksgiving decor :D- and put away the Halloween :( - I got some reduced price new Halloween pieces I'd like to put out - but it will be a nice surprise for myself next year.

Well today is the end of my 'rest' week of P90X and with all that snow last week I actually did have more of a rest week than I normally would have as my classes were canceled on Wed and Thursday, however the workouts from Tony are not really restful!;) In particular the core synergistics and the yoga come to mind as definitely not restful!:p And you still do the Yoga and Kenpo, the only things you don't do are the 3 day bodypart splits and the Plyo. And I think that Core Synergistic DVD is one of the hardest workouts of the series.

This week we have new 3 day spilt DVD's but the Kenpo/Plyo/Yoga remain the same. I may also add the Cardio X on days that I can, although I do try and get my cardio out side. There is lots of snowshoeing/X-counrty and downhill skiing to be done now!!

Today are my 3 classes, 2 pilates and one weight class....

Shoegal: sounds like you had fun on Halloween! I did to, staying out until 3:30 dancing with my girlfriends, and I spent the night at my friends house in Boulder to be safe. I am in the same boat as you today, putting away Halloween and starting to decorate for thanksgiving. Hope you have fun!

Hi to everyone else!

Remember I told you that I wouldn't be going on the Panama cruise in April? My sister, (the one that instigated it all) called me up and begged me to take the cruise with them. She said her husband decided to go and now needs another person to go, so they can get a better rate. She said I will only pay half the cost if I would only go. I told her she'd have to call Joey (he's in the middle of coming home, in transit) before I could go. Joey and I closed that door because it was just getting too complicated. Anyhoo, Joey said yes, that I deserve to go. Can you believe it? It's in April (right after my birthday) for 16 nights! I'm already booked, and can't back out now! I am such a lucky person! Now, all I have to do, is get in really good shape (well, why not, it's a good inspiration) so, I'll stick to my plan on all the workouts I'll be doing. Michell's rotation this month, Insanity the next, and finally, STS both series, for 3 months. This is so cool.

Today is Kickbox/Legs & Core. Will report back when I'm done.

Shoegal
, Love the snuggling up at home. Seem you and your DH had a great night out at the party. Good for you.

I haven't did that workout for such a long time and when I did it yesterday, I messed up a couple of times in that part. I also had to modify just a little, but, finished it. Good job on the 5th timesaver workout.

I just got a note from the Insanity people, it should be here within a few days. Then I'll start it in December and will keep you informed. YEAH!

I love getting special deals on holiday stuff and using them the next year. It's so nice for the next time around, I agree.

Laura, P90X is very tough. I agree witih Core Synergistic. I'm very proud of you! Sounds like you are doing fantastic on your workouts. Oh, I envy the snowshoeing. We usually don't get that much snow, last year we did, but I don't see it this year. Enjoy the beautiful snowy outdoors. That's a lot of classes in one day.

Take care everyone, and have a great day.

I think we consistently run over on our previous month of the Lurker check-in before we reorient to the new month. Thanks for the reminder Janie and keeping us in order.

So, HIS is one of my favorite 4DSs but it has been so long since I've done HIS that I'm afraid I was a bit off on the step part this morning. I really should have previewed it yesterday. I meant to, but the day got away from me. Oh well, I still had a good time with the workout. I wasn't loving all those pushups but I managed to get through them. I can do push-ups half-way around the clock, but don't have the space for a full circle. Does anyone? I am definitely previewing the rest of the workouts this week.

Be back for personals later.
~michelle

Michelle, I didn't have the space for the full circle either, so I did the windshield wiper. LOL I do love these workouts you picked. It will be a great pick me up month.

Will catch you later.

Janie

Did HIS as planned yesterday. Love the step portion immensely - love that the blasts are little routines themselves. It goes by so darn fast though - I was left wanting more. I actually do have just enough room to do a full push up circle - but I've never done this on my toes - so not sure if that counts.

Ok - tonight I have a late meeting and then I'll jump on the 4DS:KB. I'm hoping the kickbox flies by like the step did yesterday. :p

I pulled together all of the Halloween last night - I have this mentality that if I don't get it done then my home will look like I don't take care of it. Almost as if I'm one of those people too lazy to take the Christmas lights down all year long. I still need to wrap it all up and put out Thanksgiving but I feel better about it.

Laura - that P90x yoga & core synergistics sound awful - you are making me dread them. I think I'm going to have to break down and at least watch some of these so I know what you are talking about. With snow - comes some fun - snowshoeing, skiing - sledding - all of that sounds wonderful. Just walking in it too is kind of fun. I was really hoping there was going to be dancing at the Halloween party I went to - no such luck. I'm crazy about dancing.

Janie - EXCELLENT cruise news!!!! Wow - you are a lucky person - Panama Cruise - I am sure you'll have a great time. Yes - it is a very very good time to get in good shape - go for it. Now with Insanity coming - it is just the right tool to catapult you into your next fitness level. It is nice to have something like that to look forward to - The Cruise & Insanity. I'm sure nobody else understands that like vidiots.

Ok - Michelle - I'm sure you've done KB by now - how did it go? I'm sure you breezed through it - I'm not sure if I've got a clear radar on what the legs are like in that - really hard? I did the chest and back work last night pretty well - but I have been taking it easy on the weights - but now I think I need to go heavier.

Time to get the day going - hope you all have a good one.!

4DS Kickbox is done. I have never done this one before, so I was looking forward to a brand new workout. What fun. Cathe does a really nice warm-up and the kickbox portion goes by really quickly. The moves are not difficult which is nice because you can really concentrate on intensity and form. The leg work with heavy weights was also lots of fun. I'm finding that I need to increase my dumb bell weight on leg presses. I did the first round with a 10 pounder and the second with a 12. I'm thinking 15 pounds the next time I do this workout. Cathe uses a 20--I'm thinking that might be very doable. Also really liked the plie squats and picking up the weight then setting it down. It really makes you go deep on the plie. Very nice. I hate lunges and Cathe gives them a little extra twist on this workout. Ugh. Core/ab work was intense. Ripken joined me for a nice stretch. Actually, I think he was napping.

Janie: sounds like you've got a fun trip in store come next spring. I see a few new bathing suits in your future after the next few months of exercise.

Shoegal: I'm contemplating the holiday decorating. It's a little early, but I've got lots of leave to take around Thanksgiving and Christmas, so I'm excited to get going. Last year I got all my Christmas decorations up before Thanksgiving--outside lights, inside, the tree, garland, etc. Disgusting right? But nice, because then we could enjoy everything for a whole month and I wasn't stressing about running out of time. Might try to do it again this year.

Laura: its great that you combine so many different types of activities. You keep your muscles working all the time. I'm exhausted reading your post. I'm not as much of a cold-weather gal--so I will enjoy your enthusiasm for winter from the more temporate mid-atlantic.

I think our Shadowpup is out of town.

Good Morning,

Had a very productive day so far. Did my stretches Max 1 and 2 and feel so much better for it.

My pearl necklaces are at the vendors now trying to find a new home. Yeah! She liked them enough to try and sell them for me. She also told me, that she would rather do business with me if I had a license. But for now consignment is good to see how the pearls sell. If they sell , I just might do it, if they don't, then there is no reason to do it. Something to think about for the near future.

Shoegal, How was Kick boxing for ya? Joey will be here tonight or tomorrow, I'll have to change the rotation around a bit. He's not use to exercises the way I do them, and he didn't exercise when he was gone either. I'll keep up with the strong workouts I do, just a little different so I can include My Joey.:) The best thing is, we're doing them together.

Isn't great to put away Halloween and bring out Thanksgiving? Time just keeps moving.

A new level of fitness here I come! I've already started and looking forward to more.:p From one vidiot to another.

Michelle, I loved the Kick box workout yesterday. Wait until you do the stretches, mighty mighty fine.;) If I can use a 20# for legs, I know you can. I used One 40 # dumbbell for the plie squats. That was hard work! I modified the core/ab work. Must need to them more.

I never thought of buying a new swimsuit or two. OOOOOO, how wonderful. What would I wear for an older lady? Also this would be the time to download some of my favorite workouts to take to the gym on the cruise. Lots to think about.

Janie

hey time for a quick post!

Man I am totally worked over from my classes yesterday, my arms, chest and shoulders are so worked! Than today I did a new DVD from P90X that was Chest, Shoulders, & Triceps that was brutal! I am still feeling shakey from it! I think my muscles could really have used some more recovery time! I was going to do Cardio X as well, I started it and he was doing some yoga asanas that are heavy duty on the chest, shoulders, triceps and I was like NO WAY am I going to do this so I actually stopped it. I rarely do that, but it was to much for me today with my arms in the condition they are! Everything hurts, vacuuming, folding laundry!!

I got to run but will try to come back later for personals!

Did the 4DS KB last night - generally this is a good workout - like the leg portion. One question - what do those little slides have to do with Kickboxing? I hate those slides - I don't even know why - maybe it is because I feel that I look like an idiot doing them. I think it is funny that in one part of the workout Cathe says - "don't worry about what you look like . . ." Well I was worrying - it is just not my cardio of choice. Got it done though!

Tonight - I have SM: 1 & 2 - have a dinner on Friday and was worried about the Friday workout - might switch those two out because I could probably fit in the SM - but not the BC. We'll see.

Michelle - I paid close attention to the leg press portion to see what I would pick up. I started with 12 - then went to 15 - and I think I could do 20 as well. I was hoping she would do another set to see how I did but alas - she stopped. It makes a difference how fast or slow she does the presses - if she was knocking them out quickly - I would have had to go much lighter. At that slow pace - the heavier weight wasn't so much of a problem. I'm sure you would have done 15s easily. What did you pick up for those lunges?

Janie - 40#s for plie squats - I'm afraid I did it with 25#s - I don't even have a 40# dumbell. I felt the 25s but I probably could have gone heavier. You are just amazing. I would like to see a picture or two of your pearl necklaces - I'm not too crafty - but you seem to have a lot of talent in that area. Joey home???

Laura - Rest!!! Goodness - if I had worked over my upper body - I don't think I would have done the P90x Chest Shoulders & Triceps. Can you switch around the dvds in the rotation and substitute - or do you do it as was intended? Someone wrote on the OD forum that they were seriously bored with P90x - and didn't want to do it anymore - makes me wonder how much they repeat the workouts.

Ok - going to go - have a good day!

Hi Folks,

Joey got in last night about 7pm. It is soooooo good to have him back. I'll have him download a few pictures of the necklaces when he gets a chance. The rotation will have to be different, Joey just rather not do it. So, onwards we go. Today is just for him to acclimate himself with familiar surroundings. Tomorrow we get down to business on our weight workouts. Today I wll be doing Core Rhythms Merenque Mania. It's going to be fun.

Laura, Shaky is good. You know something is happening to your muscle! Wise of you to stop the workout. You just prevented yourself from injury. I know about DOM's, you did good. :D

Shoegal, I hear ya on those slides! LOL:D I don't see anything wrong in switching the workout days.

I did the plie squats a little differently. Instead of using a topper, I used my 40# dumbbell upright. And instead of using one arm I used both arms then raised the bell up with the counts she had. I needed both arms to lift the thing. I love doing it that way, and my legs really feel it. I know you could have gone heavier, legs can take a lot of weight. Don't sell yourself short. But, do use your legs and not your back.

Joey just now downloaded the pictures, so I'll go to picturetrail and get them on here. Be back shortly.

Here they are:

Here are the close ups on how all 3 were made.

They look so much better in person. Oh well. I think the background color made them washed out looking.

The stretches felt really good this morning. Ripken did his best versions of belly stretches and side stretches. For some reason, he is not so much about downward dog. Hmmm.

Shoegal: I was too light on the lunges yesterday. I don't know if I grapped 8 or 10 pound dbs but either way, I could have gone heavier. I liked the different approach of the low plane lunges. Generally, lunges are not my favorite. I think the slides are just about giving a little cardio break and I feel like I look silly when I do them as well.

Janie: we'll have to spend some time looking at swimsuits on-line. And remember, it's not a matter of how old you are but rather what great shape you are in. I do 40#s for plie squats with the barbell but I don't have a 40# dbs. My largest dbs are 25#. I think I used a 20 yesterday, but one 25#-db is probably very doable. Janie--are you working with real pearls and doing those teenie, tiny knots? Stringing pearls is really an art.

Laura--sounds like you did the right thing, listening to your body. A good upper body stretch might help the soreness. Kind of got stretching on the mind since the rotation called for 2 stretch max routines today.

Okay--I previewed 4DS LIS yesterday and will do so again today. I want to be better prepared for LIS than I was for HIS on Monday.

Hope everyone has a great day.
~michelle

Michelle, I can just see Ripken stretching. LOL:D Looking forward to helping me pick out swimwear. Thanks for the encouragement. Using a 40# barbell for squats, I don't think I can do. You go girl!

I did use silk thread and tied the knots on all the necklaces and earrings. It was easy. Just took a little time.

Have great workouts everyone, I got to do my Core Rhythms for cardio today. Will peek in later.

Janie

I didn't have time to post yesterday. We have had a steady stream of visitors since Sept. and now the girls god-father is in town for a week. Busy, busy. Yesterday I took a long hike in boulder, 2:30 hours with Maggie. I don't know if you remember but it is the same hike I was doing often last spring and yesterday it really kicked my butt! It starts with a very aggressive climb, it is so steep that they had to build in 'stairs' to keep the erosion from getting out of control and my heart rate went through the roof in the first 5 minutes. After about a half mile straight climb up it levels off with more gradual climbs. Both Maggie and I were really feeling it....

I then taught my Pilates class that evening and I am still feeling pretty droppy.:confused:Once again not sick, but like I am getting sick. I think I am doing ok though, just a slight cold, runny nose, and mild sore throat from the post nasal drip...will see how I do today, I keep pumping myself up with vitamins and nothing seems to get full blown. Considering the amount of crud going around here it is a miracle I haven't caught anything!

Janey: nice necklaces! Good work. Where do you buy the pearls? I bet you are happy to have Joey home again. I can't believe you lift 40lbs on the plie squats, you must have a very strong back. I would worry about straining a groin muscle for myself! I know the legs can take a lot but I baby myself on those more vulnerable positions that can target the groin/low back more intensely. You must be ripped! Do you go slower than Cathe or the same speed?
That is amazing!

Shoegal: yea I don't have anything heavier than 20lbs either, not yet anyway, I think for STS I will at least have to go up to 40 if not 50. I love the kickboxing! And 4DS kB is my favorite I always wish it was twice as long though, I feel like I am just getting into it and it ends! Yes I could see the boredom factor in P90X if you kept doing it. I was really ready for a change after that first month and am excited for the new round of DVDs this month, they provide enough of a challenge to keep me engaged now for awhile. However the Cardio DVD's are the same, and I am tempted to substitute a Cathe one instead, but I want to try the rotation as true to form at least once. I did substitute the cardio yesterday with a hike instead of the Plyo that I was supposed to do, but I know the hike burned way more calories just because of how long it was...I was planning on doing the DVD as well, but forgot to bring my computer to the gym to play the DVD so I couldn't which really was ok considering my so-so energy...

Michelle: Stretching does sound nice. I do a little stretching most days and pilates requires a good bit of flexibility, but i am definitely noticing that the more weight lifting I do the less flexible I get and the more I need to stretch to maintain the flexibility I have, especially in the chest and shoulders for me. I was teaching pilates the other day and I went to do a full circumlocution of the shoulders/chest sweeping the arms over the head around to the buttucks while holding a towel, which is something I never had trouble with before, and I couldn't do it! It is common that most people can't do it, at least not without throughly warming up the area first, but I never had trouble with it before! It was a humbling experience and also gave me a better understanding of what that feels like in my own body, which will help me better teach others how to work with opening up and freeing their shoulders and chest from restriction. Needless to say I have been stretching that area a lot since then. It must be from the endless pusshups in P90X
