Lurker's Invitation November, 2009

Hello -

Well - surprisingly I went over to my friend's house - plugged in the 10-10-10 workout and FINISHED!! Thoughts of putting it off or doubling up the workout on another day were in my head but I stuck it on - changed my clothes and got it done. I'm so glad. As for my workout - I did work hard but a couple things that I noticed - on the hi/lo portion when Cathe went all out and did some high kicks - well - I found that I was tight and if I pushed it to get my kicks higher my back would hurt. Got me to thinking that I hardly ever see kicks like that in a video anymore and I wondered if kicks to that extent are even needed. What do these high kicks mean - that the movement is more intense - that I am more flexible, in better shape? Are they necessary? If I kick lower is my workout suffering? This 10-10-10 cardio was, I felt pretty much the same as the cardio in the power circuits video - a little of everything. Tonight I'm considering not doing the KB cardio portion - and doing some other cardio in its place and then tacking on the body part. I read someone's review of this workout and they said something like this isn't true "kickboxing" but was more kickbox inspired aerobics and true kickboxing enthusiasts would be disappointed. I don't know enough about kickboxing to know what the difference is - what is she not doing?

Oh well - another day - DH is threatening me with a discussion about budget issues - and I just spent a pretty reasonable amount on shoes online. Well - I bought 4 pairs and no pair was over $40 - so that is reasonable, right? Shouldn't have done it - I now have buyer's remorse. In my defense I have been wearing more and more flats lately - the heels exacerbate my back so I needed more variety in my flat selection. It promises to be a questionable evening.

How is everybody??? Quiet on here.

Laura - I hear you about pilates - I should make the effort and I really appreciate that you've given me another option to explore besides doctors, chiropractors, medication and surgery - which don't interest me in the least - and that I can be pain free - all that sounds great. I just have to do it - so I'm going to do a bit of research on pilates studios in my area to start with. Glad the girls' party was such a success - you should definitely post photos. I hope your friend is alright - her symptoms sound very alarming - I will keep her in my prayers.

Shadowpup - not sure if you are on another trip - have to go back and look - we miss you on here.

Michelle - our boat is all tucked in for the winter - where do you store your boat on the off season? Do you ever just stick it in the water for a nice day and take it out again - or too big? We can't do that with a sailboat - way too much work!!! How was your workout? My tricep push ups were not good I had a lot trouble even on my knees - did you do yours on your toes?

Janie - glad you are feeling better - no ulcer is great news. This will allow you to get back to all the wonderful projects that you are doing!!! Yesterday my sister taught me how to make decorative bows - for gifts, or wreaths etc. I thought I could decorate my gifts this year with a little more style!!! I looked up making soap - gee - that looked complicated and dangerous. On this site they talked all about safety and safety equipment - didn't think it would be so involved!!!! Since you have done it - what is your take on it?

Ok - gonna go - hope to hear from everyone!!

In the middle of getting ready for Meso 1 Chest and Back.

Another vent here, sorry guys, I need this one.

Had a horrendous night last night. Took the Omeprazole for the GERD that I have since Mon. twice a day as perscribed. At 3am this morning had a reaction to it.

My heart rate went a little above normal, I was a little dizzy, had a dry mouth, was confused (enough so that I couldn't explain what was happening to my Joey), and panic.

We went to emergency and after they checked my blood pressure, I started to feel better. My mouth salivated, my dizziness was going away, and all the other symptoms subsided.

It felt like what ever had a hold on me started letting go. It was like a pressure in my brain started relaxing and went out the base of my head. Sounds chemical to me.

Anyway, I had to continue to stay there until I saw a doctor. She wasn't sure if it was the meds I was on, but Joey and I are certain of it. The meds last for 3-4 hours and that episode lasted 3-4 after I took it.

Tomorrow I have an appt. with an internist at my doctors team. My doctor is gone on maternity leave.

What do I have to say or do to make them listen? I am very sensitive to pills and instead of taking one per day (which I should have in the beginning and didn't) to all of a sudden I am taking two. $hit!. This has been going on way too long. I'm angry at myself for not following instructions, and angry at the medical profession, who you are suppose to trust with your life.:mad::eek:

I hear so many people (including in our family) where they are having problems with meds. and just didn't want to be one of them. I'm sure eventually things will calm down and I'll be OK.

Laura, So glad the tea party was such a success. Something they will remember fondly for the rest of their lives. Would love to see photos. I see you are still doing a great job exercising. I would have left Ab Ripper alone too! Wise choice.;)

My son the doctor also said the same thing. The doctor I saw on Mon. told me to make an appt. two weeks from then to see my doctors team. How is that suppose to help me? I guess she doesn't want any part of it. Don't understand. I have an appt with the internist tomorrow at my doctors team. Jeesh! This is such a problem that seems unresolvable.

I feel for you worrying about your dear friend. I hope all it takes for your friend is some penicillin and for her to be back to normal in a couple of weeks. How awful stomach problems are! ((((Hug and prayers for you and your friend))))). Please let us know what happens.

Have you decided about Thanksgiving yet?

Take care my friend,

Janie

I'm not sure about folks who think Cross Train Xpress kickbox is not true kickboxing. Seemed like it to me. I had lots of fun with it AND I made it through the 32 power lunges--both sets!!!!! So, I don't know Shoegal. If you skip this one, I think you are going to be missing quite a bit of fun.

Janie: what a bummer. A night in the emergency room is just no fun at all. But I'm glad you are feeling better. Now, in defense of the doctors, they are, after all, just human. Even though they'd like us to believe they know everything and have all the answers. They don't. Personally, I prefer those doctors who openly admit they've got no idea what is going on but are ready to work with you to figure it out. If you feel like you have a doctor who is listening to you and trying to help unravel this mystery, then stick with her/him. If not, then it's probably time to look for another doc. I know this is really hard on you physically, mentally, and emotionally. I wish I was close enough to give you a BIG (((((HUG))))).

Laura: It seems like you are feeling better, yes? That's great. Glad to hear the tea party was a success. Who doesn't love a good spot of tea?

Shoegal: you know I've been wondering about your shoe fetish. You haven't mentioned any shoes or shoe purchases in a while so I thought maybe you had reformed. Guess not. Once the boat is pulled for the seaon, that is it. It's a little big (over 25 tons dry--not sure how heavy with nearly 900 gallons of fuel and additional stuff) to pull out and put in on a moments notice. Plus once the engines and water lines are winterized that is it until we dewinterize in early spring. Plus, it takes a full day to winterize the boat and the cost for the mechanic/supplies to do that is about $1200. Dewinterizing is not as time intensive or expensive, but its not something you would do for one day in the water.

We're getting another good soaking here in the mid-Atlantic and some cooler days. Dang. I sure was liking that 60+degree weather.

Janie -

We must have posted around the same time - wanted to give you a (((HUG))) - sorry for all of this hassle. I know how frustrating all this can be - all you really want is to feel good again - is that so hard? :(

I agree with Michelle - doctors shouldn't claim to know what ails you - they are just trying to figure it all out - so they shouldn't act like they know it all - but try to work with you to solve it & fix the problem. So if you have a physician working with you - then your in good hands - if they aren't listening then find someone who will.

We are all thinking about you - and wishing the best - so hang in there!!! I'm praying for you too!!

Did Meso 1 Chest and Back. Shockingly I used the same weight when I did it last. WOW! How can that be? In other words, I still got it! Yeah! Tomorrow, INSANITY.

Shoegal, So glad you stuck with the program. I get that way too sometime, you now, not wanting to do a workout. But I'm one that will never double up. I think kicking as high as you dare is enough. Don't over do those, you could hurt your back. I believe it takes a little more flexibility to do that. You are very wise.

Oh, I know how buyer's remorse is. Not a very nice feeling. Perhaps taking a pair back might help. Hope your back will feel more better soon by wearing flats.

Soap making can be dangerous especially in the part of using lye. But, if you wear goggles and rubber gloves, you'll be just fine. The good part about it is when you mix fat and lye together, it is no longer just fat or lye anymore. It is a chemical reaction that turns into soap. It's really cool. You can put your own ingredients into it, oatmeal, avocado, all the things you hear of to make your body lovely. It produces it's own glycerin to make your body feel moisturized, well, because it does that. It can last twice or three times longer than the store bought. Soap made from lye is real soap, that's the definition. Brand soaps you use at the store, uses chemicals (that is hard for skin to endure) to promote suds and most of them don't even use lye. And the brand name companies use fragrances to make their soaps smell good, only know that the fragrances are made from pure chemicals that can go into your blood stream. Very harmful. I've learned this from making soap for over 30 years and researching my book for over two years.

That's my intake. Bet you didn't want to hear all of that.LOL:rolleyes:

Your gifts are going to be so inviting/mysterious at Christmas. Have fun.

Thank you for your hug. I feel it. Yes, I agree with Michelle too. It will turn out fine, I'm sure.

Michelle, I'm one that believe CTX Kickbox is kickboxing. It is a lot of fun. I try to get that one out as much as possible.

I agree with you about our doctors. I just said the first frustrating thing I could, that came out of my mouth. I know they are there to help you. (I feel bad about saying that). For Pete sake, my son is a doctor! LOL I'll be fine, it's just going to take a little time to figure all this out.

Thank you for the hug, that's nice.

Take care,

Janie

Janie: interesting information about soap. Thanks for passing that along. And don't feel bad for venting. Everybody deserves a good vent session every once in a while. And good for you--even after a distressing night, you got your exercise in. Now I call that being good to your body.
~michelle

Busy day--just a quick post before going to a meeting. Did Cross Train Express Step and Intervals this morning. Lots of fun. Weight work was chest presses, flies, more chest presses, and then push-ups. Ugh--hate when those pushups come after the weights. They are so much harder afterwards.

Try to be back later for personals.

Hi all, wanted to check in ... I'm finding that the flu has really sapped my energy level, and so I'm pretty much getting up, racing to my desk to catch my first telecon, working, working out (yep, not skipping that!!!), eating dinner and falling asleep on the couch. But sometimes that's life ...

Anyway, Janie, I've been following a variation of your rotation, just reducing reps so that I'm not attempting more than 45 minute workouts. It's been:

* Sat Slow Heavy Chest/Back
* Sun STS M3 Legs - timesaver version (skipped a squat set)
* Mon rest (actually fell asleep before dinner, oops)
* Tues STS M3 BiTriSh - timesaver (two each of the triset sequences rather than all four)
* Wed Insanity Plyo

It's a nice rotation this way.

All of you have been busy posting and I miss reading about everyone's doing :( . Am hoping tonight I'll be more energized - more awake - so far so good, today.

Hello People!

Busy day for everyone it seems.

For myself - I put in CTX: KB with every intention of giving it a shot. Michelle lured me in with the thought of doing 32 power lunges. I thought that it did sound like fun and that I'd like to see how I did. Well - just a few minutes into the warm up and I bailed. Sorry -apparantly am I the only one that finds kickbox so boring you could nod off in the middle of it. I can appreciate it - but it is not my cup of tea. So I plugged in Step Blast and did a premix that was approximately 30 minutes and then put the KB back in to do the biceps which I found really hard. I don't know why either - Cathe picked up a 25lb barbell - I did too - and I was simply struggling!!! I eeked it out but I was battling the entire way. Biceps were all pumped up and needed a rest.

Yes - I will definitely do S&I tonight - no problem.

Shadowpup - take care - I know about the flu zapping your strength - one year I had it over Christmas and I was down and out. I remember sitting on the couch looking at my half done Christmas Tree thinking I could probably decorate a little bit then I'd get up put one ornament on it - and I'd go back and collapse on the couch again. It was too much!!!

Janie - hope you are doing better today - no emergency room visits - all better - thanks for the description of soap making . I really did want to hear about it because I was thinking it was going to be this huge ordeal that I don't want to get into but you made it sound so easy - and fun!!! Can you buy real soap anywhere? Or is everything out there made from chemicals? Do you add your own fragrance?

Michelle - good job on the workout - I'm looking forward to this one tonight. I asked my DH about winterizing a boat with a motor in it. He launched into this huge explanation about how you can't have any water in the engine or it will freeze and crack so you have to push all the water out - then put in some antifreeze - blah, blah, blah - or you could hire a mechanic and have them do it. Then he said something about lifting the boat out of the water with a crane. Apparantly he did the winterizing himself along with the co-owner/ friend to save $$$ back in the day when he owned his boat. I have to say - the sailboat sound like much less work now.

Ok - well - gonna go. Hope you all have a great day!!!

Did I ever tell you how awesome you all are? Lucky person I am.

In week 4 of the rotation I created, I switched day 2 with day 4.

Did Insanity Pure Cardio today. Insane and sweaty. Did it though, with modifications, had to. I know I burned some unwanted calories.

Had my follow up after the scene in the Emergency room, today. Doc told me my blood results are not up yet. It will still be a few days before I see the results. I don't know what I was looking at online? Hmmmm. He told me to take 1/2 omerprazole (yes, it's the pill that I reacted to) once a day, preferably in the morning. I trust this amount will work for me. He said if I'm still feeling pain, then to up it to 1 a day. Also, I asked if blood work can tell if you have the bacteria for an ulcer, he said it's pretty good and it can detect the bacteria. Who knew? I think I'm good to go for now. Let you all know about the blood work when it comes in.

Michelle, Great job on those push ups after weight work. That is more tough to do. Yikes!

Deborah, Amazing you continue with your workouts even after the flu zaps your energy. (shaking head in awe) Love your variation on the rotation. I'm surprised with low energy, you can keep up with it. Good for you. Hope your energy comes back soon.;)

Shoegal, Not every one likes kick boxing, I do, but that's me. You have to do what you like, or it just doesn't work. Great job on your workout.

There might be one or two companies that use lye, but they also add fragrances and other chemicals and ruin it. They are not the best soaps. You can make soap that will last a very long time compared to store bought. One batch will make 4 bars and should last a year or more. Soaps only get better with age.

All fragrances, perfumes...are chemically made. Except for extractions from flowers or herbs. It's a process that is hard to do because of the special equipment you have to have, but, you can get them at health food stores. There is Lavender, roses...I never use chemically made scents in any of my soaps. But if that doesn't bother you, you can add all kinds of fragrances to yours. Also, at craft stores they sell something that's called "Melt and Pour". Don't use that, I don't know what is in it. I'm very Leary of it. If you want a really great soap, make it yourself.

It is so much fun! After you make your very first batch, watching it turn into soap and the feeling that you created this is fantastic. What kind of soap would you like to make? What type of skin do you have? If I have any that fits what you want, perhaps I can send you one or two for Christmas.

Take care all,

Janie

Good morning,
All step, shoulders and abs this morning. Feeling good about the workout. I kept up with Cathe on the weights except the overhead shoulder presses. Cathe used 15 pound dbs, I opted for 12. But 12s are super good for me on overhead shoulder presses, so I'm happy about that.

We are finally starting to get a break from the Nor'easter that has been pounding the mid-Atlantic. One more day and we should be out of the woods on the flooding. We haven't checked out rain guage yet, but it was very full. I laughed at the local paper this morning which noted 1/2" of rain in Fredericksburg yesterday. Yeah, right. They must take their rain measurements under a roof.

Janie: sounds like you've got a plan with the medication for your GERD. I hope this brings success. The soap making sounds interesting but I think I'd rather buy homemade soap from someone. At least now I'm a littled educated about the whole thing. Thanks Janie.

Shoegal: winterizing bigger sailboats can be just as much of a job as powerboats. If you've got running water in the galley, heads, etc., then all those water lines have to be winterized. Bigger sailboats may have small inboard engines, they have to be winterized as well. But your husband is correct, have to get all the water out of the water lines and the engines. I know our mechanic runs anti-freeze through the water lines after he blows them out, but I'm not sure about the engines.

So, you are not a fan of kickboxing? I have to admit that I have slowly come to enjoy it. I found it very awkward in the beginning, but with practice I've gotten better. Fortunately, Cathe has lots of variation and step blast is a great workout.

Shadowpup: don't know how you workout when you are not feeling well. Amazing. Are you on the road next week or did your trip get canceled completely?

Hi to Laura!

~michelle

Michelle,

Great job on All Step Shoulders and abs. I use 12#'s for shoulders in that one too.

Hoping you stay dry and there is no flooding.

Did Meso 3 week 1 legs, and an ab workout. OUCH! My legs are fried, but loving it in a good way.

So far so good on the GERD thing.

Take care,

Janie

Hi all,

First real snowfall here, and we're having internet problems because of it, so I'm going to post in sessions. I lost my longer message, sigh. If I don't see intermediate posts I'll just keep adding them in below.

It's not so much that I'm feeling sick, just needing a lot of rest. Apparently that's one of the side effects of this flu. It must tax the body more than most, which perhaps makes sense given how seriously it affects some people. A colleague of mine told me he also is sleeping many more hours than usual. Anyway, the workouts aren't so much heroic as a strategic attempt to use the body's reaction to working to get feeling better. My personal theory is that strength training in one area triggers muscle repair all over :) Whether that's true or not, it is at least a possibility and does seem to help. At any rate, I feel less like a slug! Doing at least a little workout makes it easier to just keep on going, and then keep on going, and then ... it's done!

Janie, very sorry to read your post about that nasty, nasty reaction to the original GERD dosage. Some people just plain are very sensitive to meds!!! Doctors tend to get focused on the average cases, and many haven't learned how to listen. I hope you are feeling better again today and that the lower dose keeps you feeling okay. BTW, loved hearing about soap! I've always thought of lye as being a dangerous caustic substance that people should stay away from, and not as something that could combine to make a healthful soap. What a neat perspective. Perhaps worth trying some vacation day ... you make it sound fun! And, we grow lavender and roses in large quantities, too ...

Today was going to be an STS Legs workout, but Jen at Advanced Workouts came through with my return of those Barre dvds I didn't like. The replacements arrived today! One was Squeeze Lower Body Challenge. Decided to do that one instead of STS. It's a half hour workout, and reminds me a bit of the Lotte Berke and Bar Method. Not as graceful, probably more intense. The exercises are a combination of lunges (very light weights, high reps), a few deadlifts (light weights and fast - which is the one part I didn't care for), and then a ton of isometrics for legs and glutes. After half an hour, I have to tell you that my legs were absolute spaghetti. Just totally wobbly. THAT is what I'd hoped for from the Advanced Barre workout that I returned, so I'm really happy about it! Janie, I'm not sure how you'll feel about it, it does not have that 'ballet'-graceful feel that the Callanetics method has. It is not a bad calorie count for a workout of this type: it was 112 in half an hour. Not cardio, and not STS, but effective and something I can take on travel. Combining this with the TRX will give me an hour of effective lower body work!

Michelle, so *you* are the one getting the rain!!! And yes, my trip schedule is all scrambled. Two last week, none this week, two next week, then a break. And then ... drum roll, please ... and then I "have" to go to Hawaii! Oh, my heart is so broken. Oh, I am sure you are all feeling so very sorry for me o:) But I'm running two panels at a major technical meeting being held there, and will stay for the whole thing, six days. It is right after my birthday.

BTW, Your workout sounded excellent. 12 pounds on shoulders is good with these higher reps, shoulders being so delicate, and to me, keeping up with Cathe is a sign of victory! CTX is one of my favorite Cathe series. I really really really love Meaner Legs on that one. You're reminding me how much else is available on CTX!

Shoegal, I love hearing you describe your DH and his mechanical things! He would get on so well with mine.... And I read about your new shoes. Of course you need more flats, to help your back. Seriously, though, you probably do. Have you seen the Ryka shoes, and the Vibraam toe-gloves? And I see you did do your workout at your friend's house! That's neat.

And ... I do like kickboxing, but not all kickboxing. I like the kind that lets me focus in on form (like 4DS kickbox), or else the kind that involves complicated kata. The turbojam style, I've never connected with that. Kelly Coffey-Meyers has a kickbox dvd that has grown on me, because you get to do kata-like sequences with intensity. Good point on the high kicks. How high is good for a person? For self defense, there's reasons to learn to make them high - for general fitness, honestly don't know.

Laura, I think you posted about the tea party and I am hunting for that note :)

Can't believe how much happens in just a few days of our lives....!

Janie: I am so concerned for you and your health! It may even feel like so long ago to you that you were in the Emergency room, but it is new to me. I hope the blood work comes back soon. Thanks for asking about me friend, she had some blood work done as well and is waiting for results. The first test came back and showed she did not have the bacteria that often accompanies a stomach ulcer, but then the Dr said you could still an ulcer without the bacteria. So....who knows? She is getting frustrated with them not communicating with her and having to call them all the time to get questions answered and test results. I hope that you don't run into the same thing with your care. My thoughts are with you.

Shoegal: I think is good that you listened to your body on the high kicks, definitely requires a lot of hamstring, glute and lower back flexibility, even quadradus lumborous(spelled wrong and to tired to look it up) as well. Not to mention pelvis stability and hip flexor and quad strength all done in one explosive movement! Which is one reason I love KB! It really fires me up too! i love that aggressive energy in it. I don't really let myself be that ass-kicking girl but KB lets me express an alter ego in a sense and i love it. But do what you love! I am one for doing what makes you happy, if you don't like it you want to do it so you should do those dancey step routines that you love.

Michelle: OMG you are making me want the series so badly now! It sounds fun and I am getting the sense that is similar in format to the 4DS which I really like and would like more of... I saw some photos of the flooding today, wow! Is it me or does the weather seem to be getting more and more unpredictable and, well, extreme?

Shadowpup: welcome back to the land of the living! You must have been hit pretty hard? H1N1? Can't believe you are working out, but can understand your logic. The momma in me wants to tell you to take it easy and drink lots of homemade broth made from beef bones (lots of garlic and onion)....

Exercise: was so sore from my ski conditioning class....don't know why I am having so much DOMS lately. Also did P90X Back and Biceps. Today was cold and overcast in Boulder so went to the Rec Center and ran on the treadmill for 45 minutes. Felt good. Wednesday I didn't have to teach due to Veterans Day but did my hike again in Boulder with my sweet Maggie. So actually exercising less but having more soreness, thoughts?

Laura, This would be a very good day indeed for the soup you're describing - we had a few inches of snow! Just right for that. But ... snow means snow shovelling, blanketing the kids, and that I'd better finish splitting more wood, so it will probably not look like a cambell's commercial for awhile ... Of course our snow now is nothing compared to what you have had, and the torrents of rain Michelle is getting, but it started just as we were finishing getting the front door in. An hour later, and we'd've had a huge hole for snow to come through! As it is, there are small cracks around it which require shimming and insulation and such, but not bad.

On DOMS, could it be that the ski conditioning classes are using slightly different muscles? You're so strong from your other activities that it would be easy to push new ones extra hard. Or, are you doing more muscle contractions than otherwise? DOMS is supposed to be worse for downhill running, and maybe downhill skiing has the same effect ... ? About all I've done that has helped with DOMS is to do active/gentle movements after lifting extra heavy (like extra jumping jacks after a deadlift), and to stay hydrated. Hopefully whatever is causing it will stop causing it when your body adapts.

Did Insanity Cardio Abs. OMG! That's hard! But I knew it would be. Modification is my middle name.

Deborah
, It's such a nuisance to lose a long post. I know how you feel.:(I hope you do get plenty of rest time to knock that flu out of your system once and for all. I've been so lucky this year. I use sanitary hand stuff, and when I get home from shopping (or where ever) I also use the Neti pot. I feel it's helped get through this far from catching the virus. What strength training in one area are you doing? (curious) It's got to be tough, and I admire your spirit of exercise while you are not up to par. You are one tough lady!;)

From two pills a day for GERD, to now 1/4 a pill twice a day. It is so far, working. That is a humongous difference! No wonder I had a reaction to it. Jeesh! That is why I dislike taking any pills. My body is so very sensitive and I just sometimes can't convince the doctors that I don't need that much medication. But I did, and it is now working. Yeah!

I'm sure thinking about putting up a website. Need to think if I want to sell each recipe individually or sell the book. Not sure yet. Joe is now saying that he didn't mean to discourage me, and that I should send it to a publisher. I still might try to send it to a Publisher. I think what I'll do first is to continue to correct the misspelling and paragraphs... and take my time and think about it as I go. If you or anyone here would like some soap for Christmas, just let me know. You can give it a try and see what you think. Perhaps give me a review on it so I may but it in my book. Just need to know what type of skin you have or what ails your skin.
If you like it you may want to make your own. It's fun! Then you can buy my book. LOL:eek:

I have squeeze. It's a great workout, reminds me so much of Callanetics because of the isometrics involved. Seems you did a good job on them if your legs are wobbly. It's not easy. (high five). Hmmm, never thought about taking them with me while traveling. What a great IDEA, yes. Then to combine them with TRX. You are a genius! Is TRX expensive? I'll look it up.

Laura, Not to worry, I'm working out like I've never done before, I'm taking only 1/4th pill a day compared to two (my doctor and I talked). I haven't got the results if I have an ulcer yet, but will see. The pills help me not feel the GERD or Ulcer. That's nice, because it was very painful.

I sure hope they find what ever is ailing your friend. It's such a horrible thing to go through, not knowing and the pain can be so bad. Especially if she is bent over into a fetal position. How horrible that must be. I'm such a lily when it comes to pain, every little thing I see the doctor. Guess I must have a little hypochondria in me. Keep me informed with her care. I'm sure they'll find out what is wrong, just hope she is out of pain until then.

If you were here, I'd fix those darn old DOM's with a hot stone massage. I agree with Deborah, using different muscles may perhaps be the culprit.

Aw, how is sweet Maggie doing lately? What a doll baby.

Take care everyone,

Janie

Hi ladies,
This morning was leaner legs. It seems like Cathe does double everything on that workout, which is okay, but I'm not a big fan of lunges. I was grumbling through that set of static lunges, thinking: but I've already done lunges dagnabbit. Oh well. I think the meaner element of leaner legs is that Cathe really moves through the leg exercises. No real breaks. Geesch! Loved the abs. Sister was not so enthused about the abs as I was. Tomorrow is a break day. Thank goodness.

It has stopped raining here. Tomorrow we are supposed to see the sun. That will definitely be nice. I think the worst flooding was down in the Hampton Roads area. All the boats at the marina came through the 3 days of yucky weather okay, so that is good. We are on the boat tonight.

Laura: You know me: sounds like you need a good stretch. I'm always telling sister the same thing. Sometimes my body just seems to be more sore than others. I kind of view it as a cyclical thing--a biorhythm, so to speak. Anyway--I'm all for a good stretch with your pup.

Shadowpup: lucky you, a trip to Hawaii. 20+ years working with the Navy and Marine Corps and I still haven't managed a trip to Hawaii. If you can, you should take a few extra days, have the hubby join you and relax. I'm also curious, is the Lab telling everyone who is sick w/ flu to just stay home. Back in the spring, CNA came up with a plan for tracking the incidence of flu and made a blanket policy statement: if you are sick with flu--stay home until you are better. Just wondering how your employer is handling this.

Janie: glad to hear that you are feeling better. The workouts sound great. I'm going to go back and copy your rotation and save it for next year after I've gotten through STS one time. With regards to your book: you know, nothing ventured, nothing gained. Give a publisher a try on your soap book. If you don't, you might always be wondering, what if? What have you got to lose?

Shoegal: hope you are doing okay. Sun shining in Pittsburgh?

Hi Ladies,
I am taking a rest day today. Kinda feeling like I am overtraining a bit and thought it would be good to take a full day down, trying to do that once a week, which is surprisingly hard for me. I am feeling a little droopy again, like that cold is still trying to get me down....

Shadowpup: good timing with the front door! Certainly a good thing to have when it is snowing!:D On the DOMS, yes the ski conditioning class is slightly different than my other classes, but not remarkably so...I am stronger than in the past so it is possible that I am working the exercises more intensely than before....

Janie: glad to hear you are on the mend! How nice to be feeling better, I agree with Michelle it can't hurt to try and then you won't be left with the question of what if....a hot stone massage sounds wonderful! Wish you could give me one!~

Michelle: yes I think I do need to stretch more, maybe I will do PM Yoga before bed tonight. It is a nice gentle routine that might fit the bill. I actually strained my neck tonight carrying a very heavy, loaded laundry basket on my head up into the girls loft. I was half way up the ladder and the basket started to fall and pulled my neck muscles, ouchy! So I am debating to let it rest or try and stretch it out, I guess I will wait and see how it feels later tonight.

Hi Shoegal!

Laura, yes indeed, an installed door is a good thing in winter! It was rather nervewracking to see that gaping hole, with stormclouds moving in. I was really grateful to see it mostly in place right before the storm, and yesterday DH was able to finish the important parts. It needs to be trimmed out, which won’t happen for awhile, but at least the weather stays outdoors now! I really like the look of our new door. It is a double door, nearly all glass, rather than a single door with lights (small windows), and reminds me of the french doors we’ve used in other places. BTW, I mentioned your soup idea to DH and he made us lentil soup, with onions and spices. Yum! So thank you for the suggestion.

Janie, your Joey was probably just not wanting you to feel bad if you had a rejection from a publisher. We’ve probably all heard about having to go through tons of rejections before getting an accept. But I think Michelle is right – why not try? You can work on the website idea, as well as the book. Perhaps you can have some free soap recipies and others for sale, or make custom recipies for people, or something like that. You’re so creative, I’m sure you can come up with something unique and fun. Will you look for a book agent? Once I looked into publishing books, and ran across a magazine with a website for people with many good tips. Writers Digest. Anyway, I’ll be happy to buy your book!

Hi to Shoegal and Michelle! I hope your weekend is going well. And Ironlady, best wishes to you also.

Michelle, I missed getting this note posted!

Hi ladies,
This morning was leaner legs.

I agree with you on Meaner. It just keeps on going! Especially after Meso 3, my muscles are used to a recovery break, so this one seems as hard as always. Do you prefer the dynamic lunges? Those seem a little harder on my knees - a form problem, probably. I've been using a weight best plus dumbbells to cut down on the 'swing factor', and trying to keep my knees back and thighs straight.

Hawaii should be fun. I haven't been back in years - and I did hope DH would come, perhaps to golf, but he said he'd rather go when I don't have to work so much. And, he's probably right. I get very focused at these meetings. Still, the sun will be very welcome! I hope you get a chance to go one of these days. How can you not visit Pearl Harbor, see the Arizona, ...???? It should be a job requirement.

This trip we'll be on Oahu; my favorite islands are the ones further out. Quieter. But I will take it.

Uh oh ... just realized ... does this mean I need to buy a swim suit ....:eek::eek::eek::eek:

For flu, our policy is 'stay home', and we have extra network support for those working from home, and extra backup for critical positions. Hand wipes are everywhere! We're supposed to get doc's clearance if we take more than X days off in any case. However, since I'm actually working from home a good bit of the time, my situation falls through the cracks on that one. There is no rule about not travelling or not working from home if you are not 100%. That is a too bad. Still, that's better than my former employer! The university where I used to work had a policy that said something like, if 40-ish percent of the campus is out with flu, they'll shut down. Well, more than that percent of the campus was out last spring, and so the administration there very courageously ... changed the policy :mad::mad: Yep, they decided that the original percent was too low, and raised it. Somehow the new better number was juuuussstt a bit more than the peak percent of sick people.
