triceps

Hi,
I just wanted to say that I have learned so much being a part of this forum! Thank you! .....I have a question about tricep exercises :).....: I have been using my Gym Style workouts and today I did the triceps portion. On a couple of the exercises (seated extensions and cross body extensions) I noticed a soreness and crackling in my elbow as I flexed it. I have weak triceps and was only using 5 lbs. on the cross body extensions and I think 8 or 10 lbs. on the seated extensions. Has anyone ever had this problem and/or have any ideas as to what I might be able to do to avoid this?
Thanks in advance :)!

Are you getting enough healthy fats in your diet? It may help to "lube" the joints. Just an idea...

Have you tried doing the moves without weights or with 3 pounders just to get a feel for the motion? You shouldn't do anything that hurts the joints. I say majorly lighten up the weights or use no weights until the motion feels more natural and no more crackling.

Cathy,

My shoulders and elbows crack like nobody's business when I work out. No matter if I'm using heavy or light weights, they just do. But if you are having soreness during the exercise, slow down or find an alternative exercise until you build up some strength in your triceps. Regular kickbacks are a great exercise. Try them with three pound weights and really focus on your form and see if your still sore and crackly! And listen to Sarah, she knows what she's talking about (have you seen her arms?? :))

I developed a very bad case of tennis elbow from working out. Here is what I learned:

1. Don't grip the dumbbell so hard. It is the gripping motion that causes the most stress on the joint. Concentrate on the muscle you are working.

2. Do forearm/wrist exercises.

3. If you are in pain, lay off for a few days.

My tennis elbow is mostly gone (knock on wood) but I had to take a break from lifting altogether and then seriously roll back the weight I was using for my upper body.

Good luck!

Thanks Sarah ("Ima"), Lunacat, and Marie :) ! I just tried the 3 lbs. and it didn't seem as bad.... so I'll give that a try for my next workout .... hopefully Cathe's workouts will get my triceps in better shape! btw Sarah ... your arms look great :)!
Have a great day!
Cath :)
