PROGRESS NOT PERFECTION: JANUARY 2013

i have compression hose...from my fat days when i worked 16 hour night shifts. my legs were swollen like sausages when I'd get home.

they helped my legs feel a lot better! once i got into shape though i didn't need them anymore, but at seventy bucks each or whatever, i kept them

Loops & Threads

This is the skein of yarn that I bought, only I got a light blue which is the 9th one down to the right. I bought a dark blue one the other day and knit Hubby a hat and had yarn leftover, with this skein I can make another hat and put the two leftovers together to make a 3rd hat. One for Hubby, one for Dad and one for FIL.

Good morning! I'm ready to have Cathe kick my butt this morning so thinking about doing TTM or CF, havent decided which yet! My new Chiseled workout by Tony Massenburg I think would kick my butt too but since I dont know the moves yet I'm afaid that'll bring the intensity down a bit. Wish me luck! I'll report back later!

Thanks for the skein visual, I never knew those yarn "bundles" had an actual name. Too bad there's not some sort of innovative fitness gear you could knit!

I just finished Cross Fire, I was only able to do the Fitness Blast and the Circuit Blast. The Firewalker and Plyo Tabatas were a bit too much for me and my knees this morning. I then did the abs but only did 2 of the exercises, the rest I couldnt do b/c they hurt my wrists. I'm going to do upper body weights and a floor leg workout tomorrow and I'll do another ab workout tomorrow as well since today's was pretty pitiful.

I've got tons of errands to run, happy workouts to you both!

Hubby gets to come home a day early!!! He’s about to board the last leg of his flight home!

Stacy, yoga mat bags, yoga socks {missing the heel and toes to grip the floor} and headbands are popular things to knit but I'll stick to hats and sweaters. Regarding CF I don't use the bands and I keep the Plyo low impact but still do the sections, give them a try.

Andrea, it sounds like compression hose would hurt..what exactly does it do?

no workout today...just work, doughnuts, football, basketball, frozen pizza, two beers and flannel jammies. good day. hee hee

Love the title of this thread. I just got Xtrain and I am doing the timesaver premixes to start. Its my first "official" Cathe program. I am just trying to make progress at this point. Good luck ladies.

Hey Phat, thanks for stopping by, feel free to join in! I have a few of the XTrain workouts coming in the mail this week, cant wait to do them! How are you liking the series so far??

I just finished the Athletic Extreme premix from LIS AT. Whew! Felt great in a "Cathe I hate you" kinda way. During the second set of pushups, I was like "what the He**" and that's when Cathe said "quit your moaning!" It was like she was standing right next to me!

I'm off to the bookstore to use some Xmas gift cards. Tomorrow is a planned rest day. I'm hoping to get some of my new XTrain workouts by Tuesday!

hi there phat!

this morning was a 0430 date with Step Blast :) i do love me some step...and i was able to tackle all of the blasts too, including air jacks and tucks and all that! i swear doing interval stuff makes me feel like I'm on some good drugs all day at work :) :) :) might be doing some every day ha ha!

thinking this month I'm going to crack open my LIS dvds...since I've had them like a year! i have at, css, lis challenge, trisets, and ab. what order should i take those in? any thoughts as to intensity? choreography is not really a big issue as i like complicated stuff.

have a great day everybody :)

Stacy as I sit here with sore legs, butt, back, arms, shoulders....I have to say....I love it!! Some of the moves are challenging but I just modify until I am stronger. Like you said progress is key.

The fronts of my thighs are sore, but it's good as I know my "thunder thighs" need the work!!

Phat, hope you can keep posting with us, we love having new peeps here, but no pressures here, we all post when we can!

Peng, what are your plans today?

Andrea, other than probably not doing AT and Trisets back to back as they both have weights you can probably do them in whatever order. Also AB made my booty pretty sore the next day so may you wouldnt want to do the lower body work in Trisets the next day either. For most of the weight segments I use 3's or 5's Cathe goes heavier and I have in the past but I felt it was starting to make my shoulders look like a linebacker. You know I love some football but I dont want to look like I belong on the defensive line!

Speaking of football....time for some Wildcard games!

I checked my tracking numbers and my new workouts should be arriving on Monday and my User Guide on Tuesday! Yay!

Ladies! Good afternoon.

I have a question for you. Xtrain is my first official weight program. When you first started working with weights did any of you experience a "bulky feeling?" I feel so huge right now....

I had trouble getting on the forums yesterday!

Phat, it is normal to feel some bulk, most of it initially is just muscle swelling from being worked. That will usually subside with a day's rest and drinking some additional water. I find that happens when I havent lifted awhile but once my body is more acclimated to working out it happens less and less. In the long term a "bulky" feeling is due to building muscle without necessarily losing the overlying body fat so your muscles are more or less pushing out against the fat. Often people will reduce weight training because of this look which in my humble opinion is the opposite of what you should do. I believe it is better to clean up your diet, lose the fat and keep on building the muscle. Stopping the weight training b/c of a bulky look just reverts you back to the body you had before, maybe less "bulky" but with less muscle and still the same amount of fat. Muscle is much more metabolically active tissue than body fat. Whew, that was a mouthful, but hope that makes sense!

I previewed my XTrain workouts, I ordered from collage and the Chest/Ba/Sh was on backorder but will be in stock tomorrow. These workouts look totally amazing!! I'm going to try Burn Sets today. The two Core workouts look good too. I also got Ilaria's Atletica Volume 3 which looks great, alot of kettlebell inspired compound moves, great workout to mix things up a bit. I'm excited about focusing on more strength training in the coming months!!

Today I'm slowly taking down the Xmas decorations and re-organizing them in the storage bins. It's grueling! My house is a mess and it's making me grumpy. I'm going to do a little bit at a time and hopefully finish by the end of the week, vacuuming and dusting along the way. Why I opted for mostly gilttery ornaments this year I"ll never know, it's a big mess!!

yay the forums are back up! i felt like i was grounded yesterday and couldn't talk to my friends :p

Trisets yesterday was interesting, i definitely liked the lower body part, definitely feeling my Dixie cups today. upper body was okay, i was able to do the divebombers which came as a shock :)

Then i went to get a massage. the trouble i had been having with my hip from a couple of years ago is back, I had tried chiropractor treatment and was going to see about deep tissue massage. turns out i had MAJOR ISSUES with my it band and the fascia being stuck, thus i couldn't move like i used to be able to. my therapist was AWESOME and really dug in there to loosen stuff up...however i bruise very easily and this picture is the result!

i will be stretching better and using my foam roller regularly to break that stuff up from now on! the bruise of course hurts but my hip and everything else feels so much better!

Peng- i wore the compression hose to keep edema down in my legs. i did back to back overnight 16 hour shifts and with my low blood pressure and standing most of the time, my legs would swell and hurt SO BAD when i got done working. the hose were a challenge to get on, but really felt pretty fantastic to wear all day.

phat- that's a common feeling! but stick with it and one day soon you'll wake up amazed with how tight and small you feel. like Stacy said, drink lots of water and keep your diet clean and that will help.

Stacy, today is get the oil changed in the car, go to Costco, and clean day. no workout...gotta let that bruise heal up a bit!

I couldn't get online yesterday either.

I spent the day with Hubby and we got all the chores done, so that was good. My Bible study starts again this week, so I have to get back on track. I put off some reading I should have done over the break but now I HAVE to get it done today. Why do I do this?

The latest news about Hubby and his job situation is that the company he currently works for will keep him on past the date they have given us for the company shutdown. He gets to keep his job as an inspector, but He'll have to work outside, where the planes come in to dock at the gates {they would wait til the coldest part of the year}, but after a few months he'll be able to transfer to the corperate office downtown. This is the same thing they told us earlier, then changed their minds, so we still aren't celebrating yet.

Andrea, I"m glad you are feeling better but ouch!

Stacy, I realized over the holidays that the clutter is taking over again, so I've started trying to clean a little bit here and there. So the obvious things first but I need to do something. Glad you liked the looks of the workouts. I've got to give the weights a try.

Phat, welcome, glad to have you join us! I modify all of my workouts to low impact and sub moves I don't like, or don't agree with me, so often my version of the workouts looks totally different but they are still fun. I liked the thread title also. So far I've done Tabatacise, Supercuts, Hiit and liked them all

I did the Chest/Back/Shoulder + Core premix from Burn Sets, and really liked it. I went only a tad light for a few exercises since it was the first time. Next time I will definitely go heavier on some of the exercises.

Andrea....ouch.

Peng...hoping the job front brings positive things.

Phat...what workouts have you done so far?? I got my User Guide in the mail today, it's very nice, love the glossy pics and all the info.

Tomorrow if my legs arent sore (did get my compression hose in the mail today) I'm going to try one of the leg workouts after work.
