Pentagenarians & Beyond: August 30, 2026

Today I did Jane Adams Gentle Yoga for 18 minutes.

Hello Hulamama. Welcome to our group.

Cathy, that was quite an adventure you had trying to get your brother home. Great job with Live Upper Body and Core Fusion.

Valerie, great job with spinning and upper back work.

Hello to Judy.

mostly taking today off except for assorted stretching.

Welcome Hulamama!. we are always happy to "see" a new face here.

Cathy and Judy I am having a cat problem. my DH has suggested before that Puss was peeing on his workout gloves. I washed the gloves and didnt think much about it. this morning I looked a little closer because he has not been peeing in his litter box as much as usual. he was using a corner in our workout room. mainly on some towels, gloves, and some other gear. there was even a pee puddle on a slider disk. spent most of the morning cleaning it all, fixing the door so it shuts solidly. I had some ankle weights and weighted gloves that i haven't used in ages . tossed them. Im sure he's not sick with urinary issues. when i looked it up it sounds like gym gear is an especially attractive place for kitties to use. sweat smells a little like ammonia. he has a clean litter box. I am looking for ideas. we will keep the room door shut. even if we cant smell anything, he will know he peed there and want to use it again. I loaded up a second litter box in a different spot for "options". any other thoughts? he spends the night in the basement but its a very nice pleasant 1300 sq foot area with many windows not a moldy dark place. hes too active to let him run around at night. Grrrr! hes behaving fine and getting along well otherwise. TIA.

Yesterday I went for a 45-minute walk and did my PT work. Today I did a 20-minute Peloton Ride and 20 minutes of upper body work. I also did about 30 minutes of PT work. I don’t think I mentioned it but I quit Home Depot last week. I had been on seasonal leave and that was going to end soon. Going back to work now would just make my shoulder and hip issues worse and they couldn’t keep me on leave any longer.

Carolyn-Great job with Jane Adams Gentle Yoga.

Valerie- I’m sorry about your cat issue. It sounds like you are doing the right things. Maybe you should take him to the vet and get him checked out. I’ve always heard that if a cat is going in places other than their litter box, it could indicate a urinary tract problem. I think this is more common in male cats.

Welcome Hulamama! I am 63.

Hi to Cathy

Today I did P30 Low Impact HiiT, 30 minutes, 201 calories burned, average heart rate 128, and maximum heart rate 154.

Valerie, I hope that you can find out what is going on with your kitten.

Judy, great job with walking, PT work, Peloton ride, and upper body work. It must feel strange to be completely resigned from Home Depot. On the other hand, I’m sure that your shoulder and hip issues will be better without the Home Depot work.

Hello to Cathy.

We rode the trail this morning for 15 miles 1 hr 20 minutes.

hope you opt to hang out with us Hulamama. I'm 78.

I'm sure it's not a physical problem. he's marking territory possibly or just being belligerent. he is a smart cat! we've had smart cats and not-so-smart cats and he is definitely smart and knows what he wants . he clearly focused peeing on our stuff in one corner of the workout room. maybe he peed there before and we didnt notice it. these aren't things we use often except for the gloves. he got annoyed by something and decided to go back to this spot? DH said his gloves smelled funny before but some synthetic things do smell odd. i washed them and let it slide before. this was a kitty campaign because he was "pissed off" at us? ! it was thoroughly peed on. we will keep the gym door closed and check to make sure he doesn't shift to a new different spot. we cleaned the area well with baking soda and no cleaners with ammonia but its a laminate floor and we cant tear it up. mostly hard surfaces down there and now two litter boxes with fresh litter, not a new kind of litter. haven't changed food or kept him down there longer than usual. he goes down when we head for bed.

Today I did a 30 minute walk on the walking pad and 25 minutes of PT work.

Carolyn-Great job with P30 Low Impact HiiT. Yes, it feels very strange not to be a Home Depot employee after being there for 7 years. I'm still processing it and dealing with the change. It's nice not to have to work but I miss it.

Valerie-Great job with your trail ride.

Hi to Cathy

This morning I did LMR Functional Lower Body, 52 minutes, 141 calories burned, average heart rate 104 and maximum heart rate 125.

Valerie, great job with the 15 mile trail ride.

Judy, great job with the 30 minute walk and 25 minutes of PT.

Hello to Cathy.

We did a park walk this morning for 1 hr 20 minutes.
the season is changing. we saw and heard some more birds today. summers get pretty boring but fall usually has much more to see. it is cloudy and cooler and we are expecting more rain tomorrow. we havent seen any fish yet but i my calendar notes list early september as the time fish runs started. not every year is the same.

judy I think you will find plenty to do with your time.

Today I went for a 45 minute walk outside and did 30 minutes of upper body strength and core work.

Carolyn-Great job with LMR Functional Lower Body.

Valerie-Great job with your park walk. I think I will find plenty to do too but it's going to take some effort on my part to find some new things to do outside of home. Working at Home Depot made it too easy, I had my social life/friends built into my job. I always have plenty to do at home so at least I won't be bored.

Hi to Cathy

This morning I did JS 15 Minute Fat Blaster, 15 minutes, 97 calories burned, average heart rate 118, and maximum heart rate 158. Then I did LMR Low Impact Cardio Bonus, 16 minutes, 123 calories burned, average heart rate 130, and maximum heart 159.

Valerie, nice job with the park walk for 1 hr 20 minutes. I love the changing seasons. We aren’t there yet, but I am looking forward to it.

Judy, great job with the 45 minute walk outside and 30 minutes of upper body and core.

Hello to Cathy.

We dont get gorgeous fall color from hardwoods , like midwest and east coast. lots of evergreens here that stay green. the deciduous trees usually turn yellow or brown and drop leaves but no oranges and reds. we get larches changing color in the mountains, usually spectacular. evergreens turn bright yellow and then drop their needles. other smaller shrubbery like huckleberries and heather turn bright red but only in the mountains. i love fall. i used to love to hike and backpack then, but getting past the time i feel ok with serious hikes.

Valerie, I would definitely get a urine test at the vets, to rule that out. If he does have an infection it can escalate and get pretty nasty. Been there. Chester is on medication for spraying though his behavioral and the medication only seems to help some. His buttons were being pushed this morning by all my stuff sitting out and I caught him twice and got him back outside. He favorite spots. This was the laundry room since it was near where he stuff was. Do you have tamarack’s there. I only hit it right once, but the UP has alternating areas of evergreens and tamarack’s which turn a gorgeous yellow gold, and the alternating green and gold is stunning.

I got to Nick’s about 5. Was just setting up my cot, and I realized I was missing a suitcase. The one with my workout equipment and workout clothes, shoes AND my shoes for the ceremony on Friday, so now I have to go find shoes tomorrow! And I already wasn’t needing the ones I bought for anything else. Ugh! the drive was good until the last 15 miles. How traffic can suddenly go from not bad to heavy in a blink is a mystery to me.

I do have my gliding disks, yoga blocks and mat and old workout shoe's but there’s a reason they are old workout shoes. Lost lateral support.

Now I’m going to sit here and feel sorry for myself a bit longer.

Bummer cathy ...stinks you forgot a suitcase!. maybe you can find the same shoes and return the unworn ones. good time for a pity party.

we are quite sure this was vengeful cat behavior. he has peed in his litter boxes since we cut off access to the exercise room. when we first got him he didnt get along with DH. there was some acting out. they get along fine now but maybe the old pee smells were still there. i got some of the urine smell neutralizer/enzyme spray today and re swabbed the area. i cant smell anything now except the cleaner itself but then i am not a cat. i washed the throw rug again too. some things we tossed because we never used them anyway and were impossible to clean.

i did a short spin and then half hour of upper body weights and about 40 min of stretching.

tamaracks are a kind of larch. they are deciduous conifers. I dont know the difference exactly but tamaracks and larches are closely related. there are several kinds of larches. western arch and another kind. subalpine maybe? i never saw those trees in WI or the UP but we hardly ever left Milwaukee . i remember the fall colors being lovely though. larches here are on the eastern side of the cascades and in mountain areas to the east like ID and MT.

I had a doctors appointment this morning so no workout today. It was my annual appointment with the breast surgeon and everything looks good.

Cathy, how awful to forget one of your suitcases! Good luck finding replacement shoes.
