Well, I'm back. It was cold, the sun came out a bit, but that wind!!
Son no.1 and I did a 10min warm up jog accompanied by son no.2 As you can tell from the new avatar he took pictures. I'm always unrecognisable wearing a cap with my ears sticking out at the sides :+ and sunglasses.
I ran into my old Nike coach: when we first started running, we attended a Nike start-to-run clinic. Which was very good in learning the basics of running. He gave my son a couple more pointers.
Then we had a warm up with all runners, some skipping and bouncing and stretching. Fun.
Finally it was time for our run. 6.3K!! I moved son no.1 and myself to the back of the pack. And told him to stay with me for the first few minutes. And off we went!! I tried to go as slow as possible cause you always go faster then you want to. After about three minutes, son no.1 was off on his own. I followed him slowly. At the first bridge I picked off the first two runners. Nice touch, Jenni, counting the runners you pass by

Up and down the bridge and I'm going to fast. Slow down, one more bridge to cross. Focus on yourself. Focus on your breathing. Find your rhythm. Don't look ahead, you'll pass them soon enough. There's runner no. 3. Nice going. My, I've crossed the second bridge. Turn left... darn it, strong head wind. Forgot all about that cause we were protected from the wind at the first stretch. And why does it have to be at this long long road... ah there is runner number 4, she's got keys in her pocket, cling clang.. annoying noise. Increase speed and get passed her. Cling clang, she's behind me. Don't like that. Just do a little sprint.... ah, she's way back cause I can't hear miss Keys anymore. Two more runners up ahead. We go about as fast. Hmm, I'll increase speed just a bit. They're slowly getting closer. A cap is flying by. Somebody lost it. It's that wind. No fun. Oh, I can turn right now and the wind is no longer a problem. Picking off runners 5 and 6. Increase speed slightly and leave them behind. We're at the third bridge now. I can pick runners 7 and 8 off easily. Not used to bridges are you? Well I am... Bye bye. Focus, keep the same effort, and I'm on top. Now increase speed going down. Got runner no. 9 in my sights and... passed him. Keep going. What's that.. runner no. 9 passing me again?! No way, stay with him. Don't go too fast. Focus on your run, breath 2/2, focus. I smile at a volunteer and he tells me it's only 400 meters to go. So I pick up the speed. At least I think I do... at least I pass runner no. 9 again, round the corner... can see the finish, sprint sprint sprint.... pass the finish at 40:37 and HR182. That's disappointing. Oh well, I had a great run
And son no.1? He ran his race quite comfortably, so he said. Finishing in 31:10min. Counting 107 runners he passed on his way.
1K = 6:24 / HR164 (going out too fast)
2K = 6:24 / HR172 (bridge no. 1)
3K = 6:44 / HR174 (bridge no. 2)
4K = 6:36 / HR173
5K = 6:18 / HR175 (bridge no. 3)
6K = 6:24 / HR174
last 300 meter sprint 1:47 / HR182
And we got Brooks running gloves at the finish. Great day.
