Beginner Rotation - starting Monday, August 15, 2011

Morning Ladies :)

I did not workout yesterday, I am going to try to double up my workout today. The Beginner Rotation list Lower Body yesterday and Body Fusion today. I will start soon as I get home from work.

Good morning !!

I'm off to the dentist .. again.. oh joy.. oh joy.... so my workout will have to be this afternoon. That's probably a good thing because I'm sore all over from my Muscle Max Upper Body workout yesterday. Even my legs... lol

Stacy - I have been known to consume large quantities of potato chips at one sitting.. it's part of my never ending battle with the carb cravings. I don't buy potato chips anymore.. but I do still bring the boxes of Wheat Thins in the house.

Our scales must be in collusion. Mine said I gained 1/2 pound Monday,
lost 1 1/2 pounds yesterday and gained 1 1/2 pounds today.... I have been weighing myself every day for the past week just to see what it does... and it just proves that daily weigh-ins are too often. But.. like you... I need periodic accountability.

Soooo... I have decided that I shall weigh myself on Mondays and Thursdays. That's not too often to see the frustrating daily swings, put often enough to remind myself what I'm trying to do.

The tomato pie sounds yummy. Thanks for the recipe. I need to give it a try !!! But I'll have to wait until I'm having friends over... no way I could eat the whole pie myself...

Quickie hit and run post-

Stacy, I am trying to be flexible w/ my workouts and not stick to a few faves or avoid certain ones, so I will continue to give circuits a chance (and maybe kb, too), thanks for your feedback on them. Hey, Cathe makes a lot of them, there must be something to it, too, right?

Re weigh ins- I like first thing AM butt naked daily weigh ins. Amazingly, I have been 134.1 for about a week straight with no fluctuations.

Yay...a chip-free day!

No workout for me today, a planned rest day. I do plan on working out in the morning before work, I have about 15-20 minutes on the recumbent bike planned followed by Jillian's Killer Buns & Thighs. My upper body is feeling it today from yesterday's BM2 Dbl UB premix!!

Food today, still not counting calories or points...

B--yogurt

L--crab salad (bought it pre-made from Whole Foods, was very light on mayo, had some green onions mixed in and the crab meat was yummy) and carrot sticks

D--caesar salad I made myself, had a few croutons and went very light on the dressing, with ~1 cup of mac-n-cheese

Susan, I'm thinking about weighing twice a week as well, not sure the days yet. I'm thinking Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Deanna...dont beat yourself b/c you didnt get your workout in or feel like you have to a double workout today. Life happens, just do what you can today.
 
Evening Ladies :)

I do not know how I did it but I did Body Fusion and Lower Body when I came home from work. My 18 year old son came in and out of the Livingroom while I was working out and my boyfriend came over while I was working out. This was my 1st time having an Audience and my son said, "I am going to have to start workout out with Cathe, instead of doing P90X.......I laughed. :)

Thursday Beginner Rotation Abs and Stretching. I will workout again in the evening.

I will be finished with everything at work tomorrow and my Day Off was approved. :) I need a day away from that place, I should have taken Wednesday as well but I didn't.

Okay, I am going to drink somemore water and get in my New King Size Bed. I will check in tomorrow, everyone have a good night. :)

Stacy - you are doing great on eating healthy. Fantastic job !!! That crab salad sounds yummy. We have a Whole Foods, I'll have to go take a look.

Deanna - You are a superstar. Doing your workout with an audience is brave. You showed 'em how it's done !!! Good for you.

I got home from the dentist and errands around midday and I was sooooo sore from my Muscle Max Upper Body yesterday that I couldn't even move. Not my arms so much, but my back and chest were tight and stiff and oh so very sore. So I lay down on the sofa with my 2 cats and we all took a long nap.

Needless to say... I never did get today's workout done, so I'll have to double up tomorrow and do lower body and cardio.

Eating was good until about an hour ago when I dove into the box of Wheat Thins... sigh.

FnV - did you say something about a snack last night???? lol... uh huh.....

Onward and upward we go..

Good morning !!!

I'm off to the gym for a good cardio workout on the treadmill. Stacy - I do intervals.. but always walking. I alternate 3.3 MPH with 3.9 MPH with a 1.5% incline. I usually do 2 minutes at 3.3 and 2 minutes at 3.9 for about 30 minutes. 15 minutes in the beginning and 15 minutes at the end at a steady 3.5 MPH.

I think I will just do a whole bunch of squats and lunges while I'm at the gym to make up for my lower body workout that I skipped yesterday.

I'm still really sore from Muscle Max Upper Body on Tuesday. Not my arms, just my back ... near my shoulder blades in particular. I think it was the bent over rows with my new barbell. Felt great while I was doing it, but now.. not so much... lol

After the gym, quick shower then off to get my flu shot... which I meant to do at the beginning of September but keep putting off.

Have you all gotten your flu shots???? I never used to bother until about 20 years ago when I got the flu so bad that I was in bed for 3 weeks and out of work for 6 weeks. It was AWFUL. I have never been so sick in my life. I never ever ever want to go through that again, so now I get a flu shot every year.

I got on the scale this morning and I wish I hadn't. It says I've gained another 1 1/2 pounds.. that's on top of the 1 1/2 pounds it said I gained yesterday. No way I could gain 3 pounds in 2 days. My calorie consumption has been about 1800 per day this week.... sigh........................... It's sooooooooooooooooo discouraging.

But.... onward and upward we go. I shall go work off my frustration at the gym. Progress, not perfection. Even if the weight is not coming off (because I still need to eat more sensibly), I am happy about my progress with doing the workouts !!! Progress, not perfection. I have to keep telling myself that.

Good Morning Ladies :)

I am up getting ready for work and just wanted to pop in and say how proud I am of everyone we are really doing the "darn" thing. :)

Susan, I do not want you to beat yourself up over the scale!!! I beleive the scale can really discourage you, this is why I said I am only going to weigh myself once per month.

I am going to look into putting myself a Treadmill on Lay-a-way (yes they still exsist) at KMart. :) I do not want to go to the GYM, I have enough exercise equipment. But listening to my workout buddy (Susan) say how she works out on the Treadmill daily makes me want one. They are a good source of Cardio.

Today the ladies at work are going to have Soul Food for lunch and I am going. :) I have to treat myself from time to time. There is nothing healthy about GOOOOOOOOOOD Soul Food, and the portion size is large. I am going to enjoy every bite, but I probably will not eat it all.

Okay, I am going to finish my coffee and get out of here will check in this evening after I complete Abs and Stretching.

We are ALL doing so great! I love the attitude around here! I know the scale can be a bit discouraging (I was the same today) but we arent letting it get us down, at least not for long! Despite the scale being the same I feel lighter and more toned today so there's something to be said for that!

I just finished 16 minutes of 1-minute intervals on the stationary recumbent bike and followed that with Level 1 of Jillian's Killer Buns and Thighs. I really like Jillian's workouts, short and tough.

Deanna, we bought a really nice treadmill a few years ago and it has been worth every penny! I cant take the impact of jogging on the pavement but with the extra cushion of the treadmill I can jog and my knees are okay, or I can do walks on an incline, so many possibilities.

Susan...have you tried increasing the incline for a few of your intervals? Dont want your body getting too used to any particular workout ;)

I work in the medical field so we are strongly encouraged to get the flu shot. I got the flu one year (a year that the shot and the circulating virus was mismatched), OMG, I have never been so sick in my life. I missed 2 days of work...and I hadnt missed a day of work in over 5 years, even with typical head colds etc. I just layed on my living room floor in absolute agony. I never want to go thru that again either!

:( Ladies I have a dilemma. The CFO gave me the day off for my Birthday which is Tuesday October 4th. However, the old crabby lady who releives me (and we do not get along) claims that her husband is having surgery on Tuesday and Wednesday. So HE is asking me to take Monday the 3rd off instead. He claims that they will be able to make due however, I work in the Mental Health field and I write checks for Mentally Disable Clients on a daily bases and they depend on their money.

The evil side of me is saying SO WHAT, as much stress as the old crabby lady and my Controlling Supervisor gives me I do not care is they do not have coverage. But on the other hand the CFO is the only MAN in the office and he is always on my side and if I go to him about something he will get those HENS off my back because my work is IMPECCABLE. He tells me all the time that he would need to hire 2 people to do my job if I was to leave. I write over 2000 checks per month and I have deadlines I have to meet everyday and I have never not met my deadlines.

YOUR ADVICE WILL BE APPRECIATED.

Good afternoon !!

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I really appreciate my support team. I could not do this without you. I won't let the scale discourage me. I feel stronger, I have more energy and I feel "lighter".... lol... despite what the scale says.

I've had a busy and good day. I did 3 miles of intervals on the treadmill, then stayed at the gym and did about a dozen squats, a dozen lunges on each leg and a dozen plie squats. :p Then I stretched for 20 minutes. I felt terrific after my workout.

Then quick shower, went and got my flu shot, then did a whole bunch of errands that I had been putting off. The weather was nice, so it was a pleasant afternoon.

I'm being good about eating... so far.... today. I am determined to do better with the food issues.

I'm seriously considering not counting calories for October and concentrating instead on eating 3 or 4 healthy meals and really concentrating on my food choices instead of thinking about calories.

Oh dear..... I'm going to get blamed for the cost of a treadmill... oh dear !!!

I love treadmills, don't get me wrong, but they are expensive. You do have a place to put it and I know that you will use it.... so that's all good. I have no place to put a treadmill or I would buy one too. That's the only reason that I go to the gym now.

Deanna - hope you enjoyed your soul food today !! Of course we have to enjoy special occasions.....

Stacy - yes... I do need to change up my treadmill routine... lol. I shall try a higher incline next time.... I loved Jillian on The Biggest Loser. I'll have to take a look at some of her DVDs on YouTube.

We should be proud of ourselves. We are doing great !!!!!!!!!!

Just a quick check-in....went out with some friends for dinner to BW3, so in other words a fried food chicken wing fest. It was very good! But, I dont think I'll be weighing myself in the morning!

I'm learning to let myself enjoy these outtings as long as they're not too often.

No workout for me tomorrow, Friday is always a rest day for me.

Going to go relax a bit, have a good night!

No workout- jog time turned into run kids time.

Stacy, you are thinking of treadmill? I bet you would like it. I used one for a year or so when I had access to one where my kids were taking gymnastics. It even felt addictive. Maybe check Craigslist for a bargain?

Susan, I am glad you are feeling leaner and stronger, that is a better overall sign that a pound here or there on scale. You've been doing great w/ working out. You go girl on the gym workout today, I know you don't love squats.
I've done WW before and think that counting points/ keeping track of food is a great tool, but I haven't been motivated enough to do it myself very consistently. In some ways, if I try to do it, it keeps me obsessing about food, so maybe not the best thing right now anyway. You know how you feel, and even if you don't get on the scale, you will have a sense of what is changing in your body. Let us know what you decide to do.
A compromise might be to keep track of good stuff like servings of veg and fruit or grams of fiber....just thinkin out loud. Like a checklist, 8 svg fruit veg--check, water--check, grams of fiber--check...

Deanna, if it was me, I would work, because I am a people pleaser and making my boss happy would push all my feel good buttons. LOL, so maybe not the right thing to do, but what I would do. Oh wait, did you decide just to wait? Well, what are we gonna do for your BD? Ooo, maybe go for a massage or something? a pedicure?
How was lunch? What did you have? I bet it was yummy.

Speaking of food, I was at my mom's this weekend. Wow, I come by my food issues honestly. Mom warms up cheesy home made mac and cheese in a skillet w/ milk added and extra shredded cheese and then puts a few teaspoons of sugar in the tomato soup.

Hopefully I report back w/ an upper body workout tomorrow.

Well of course I couldnt resist....so I weighed myself this morning....and who knew that eating tons of fried food would make one lose 0.6 lbs.....another reason not to take too much stock in the scale. I'm sure last night's meal will reflect itself somewhere in the next day or two, it'll probably be after a super clean and healthy eating day, just to piss me off ;)

I got up at 4:30am today, no reason, just wasnt tired. I was tempted to hop on the treadmill for a walk, but instead enjoyed my morning drinking coffee and playing online euchre until it was shower time for work.

Tonight is pizza night at my house, so I'm sure the scale will be "broken" tomorrow morning!

Have a great day Stacy! LOL at scale comment. I was thinking about how daily numbers often reflect eating late at night or fluid load or sodium intake- then you went and messed with my theory! I'm sticking w/ daily scale, but I only write down a weekly or bi monthly number in my fitness log. Daily fluctuations don't unnerve me too much. OK, I'm off and running too(up at 530)~

Oh pizza reminds me- I used to make a veggie pizza w/ homemade ww crust, sauce, red onion, brocoli (blended very small in the food processor) and olives I think? And nutritional yeast for cheese. wow, doesn't sound very good does it? I will make it again and see if I still like it and let yall know.

Morning Ladies :)

No workout for me yesterday and not sure if I am going to workout today. :) There is a Cancer walk Saturday morning I might participate, if not I will participate next Saturday in a 1 mile walk.

The Soul Food dish I had not good. I normally do not purchase Soul Food when I can cook it myself. I would rather treat myself to something I do not know how to cook.

I informed the CFO yesterday that I would work on my Birthday. He asked me to take Monday off instead of Tuesday, that is not going to work for me so I will save my time for another day. I brought him some Red Beans and Rice back from the Soul Food resturant, and he enjoyed every Morsel.

Stacy - my scale says I lost 1 1/2 pounds yesterday... what a rollercoaster ride. FnV - I do think that sodium intake has a lot to do with it. After two 1 1/2 pound gains in a row and now a 1 1/2 pound lost.. it has to be the sodium. Anyway... I'm going to stick to my Monday and Thursday weigh ins and stay off the scale the rest of the week.

FnV - no.. it's Deanna who is considering buying a treadmill... and I shall be blamed .. lol

I made a chart last night that would let me just keep track of servings of veggies, fruits, lean protein, beans/legumes, dairy and no calories... hmmmm... not sure what I'm going to do.... I may stick with calorie counting for another month and see if I can be better about sticking to my quota... then I could try a month of not counting.... I shall ponder the possibilities :D

Deanna - I'm so sorry that things didn't work out for you to take your birthday off from work. But I also know that you would not be comfortable leaving your work responsibilities not taken care of. Hopefully, you can come up with something to do in the evening that will allow you to celebrate and then do a full day of celebrating at a later date.

Today is my official rest day !! Yea. I need it. Every muscle in my body is sore and tomorrow is total body workout day on the Susan Rotation..

I caved in... today is the last day of the September sale..

no... I didn't buy Slow & Heavy... lol. I bought the 3 Gym Style series DVDs.

I've been good on food today... so far... evenings are always the challenge.

Water consumption at 30 ounces... need to work on that or Deanna will be on my case !!!

I'm enjoying my day off from working out. I have to rest up for tomorrow which ..... on the Susan Rotation for this week ...... is total body workout plus abs and stretching.

I'm thinking of doing Push Pull for my total body workout tomorrow. I did it last week and loved it, but that was before my barbell arrived.

Onward and upward we go !!

I just weighed myself... I know.. I know.. it's not my weigh-in day... lol
But I've been good with the food for 2 whole days :D and I wanted to see what happened. Nothing.. nada.... still the same weight I was 2 days ago... geeze. Which is now... despite all the fluctuations this week, the same weight I was Monday morning.... sigh....

soooo.. off to the gym I go to do an hour on the treadmill before I come home and do my total body workout with Cathe.

I shall conquer this... I shall ..........

I DO feel stronger and have more energy, so there is lots of good going on.

Well, I weighed myself today too, also not my weigh-in day, hehe, and I'm DOWN another 0.4 lbs.....my "secret", eat fried food one night, followed by ALOT of salty pizza and mozzarella sticks the next night (???). I'm not complaining, but waiting for the other foot to drop! I dont know what's going on. It was TTOTM last week so maybe a water/bloat flush, but that doesnt explain the lack of water gain with the crap I've eaten for dinner the past two nights!

I do have some other "theories", in the past I've seen this happen and it was after I had been eating fairly low cal for awhile, then I'd have a major cheat day and the scale would drop shortly after. So, Susan....maybe with all your activity, your recent weight training, maybe your calories are a bit too low and you need a "cheat" day?? Definitely not trying to sabotage your efforts, just a thought?? Or maybe upping that incline on the treadmill to push your cardio capacity a bit more, or maybe you have some water weight gain from the recent weight training, which should flush itself out eventually?? I know it can be frustrtating and I know I'll be there again soon enough having to reassess. Overall, in 2 weeks, I'm only down about 1.5 lbs from my starting point given all the UPs and DOWNs, just scratching my head at my current downward trends.

Anyway, it's awesome you bought the Gym Styles!! I love them!! Something to consider, you may want to start this series using the Timesaver Premixes. They are still solid workouts, a bit shorter, and not so taxing for just starting out. My chest was sore for a week after I dove in and did the Chest&Triceps workout as is the first time!!

I'm planning on doing Jillian's 6 Week 6 Pack and then workout #2 from the RKS kettlebell set. Then going to a football game later so alot of walking to the stadium there.
