Yes SelectTech are bulky but there is a way to wrap and place the band right on handle of the dumbell. I tried on two of my bulkiest set and there is a way to wrap the dumbbells, to correctly and safely place de dumbbells on the hips and HOLD onto dumbbells throughout the movement. The key in my opinion is to ensure to extend arms if necessaire to ensure the dumbells stays stable and sturdy while executing the move. The dumbbells should NOT be place over the hip girdle. The beauty of this is, I did not feel the need to place extra cushion on my hip girdle.
That being said, I tried it with about 15 pound and a medium fabric band and it burns. Then I thought if I want even more intense, I can just add the second band wrapping the upper part of the legs. Well that would be gruelling. I felt it from the first set from the eigth reps up to sixteenth. I think I need to make better
