Wanna learn "Thriller" with me??

Hey y'all, I have boldly unleashed my inner nerd. ;-)

I have discovered a way that we can all learn the "Thriller" dance in our own homes, and for free.

Go to http://www.thrilltheworld.com. This gal named Ines Markjelovic, who is a Canadian dance instructor, has put together a series of step-by-step video clip instructions on learning the "Thriller" dance. She orchestrated an event last fall (or maybe it was in 2006, can't remember) called "Thrill the World" where people all over the world did the "Thriller" dance simultaneously on a certain date, for the Guinness Book of World Records. To teach people the dance, Ines created FORTY instructional video clips ranging from a few seconds to 6 minutes, and they are all available for viewing OR FREE DOWNLOAD on YouTube. Links to all 40 clips are on her website.

I previewed about 15 minutes of these clips and I have to say that I think they are very good and make this totally a do-able thing.

By the way, if you want to download any clip directly from YouTube onto your computer, you just need to install a little piece of freebie software called "TubeSock" (compatible with Windows or Macs). Tubesock's available at: http://stinkbot.com/Tubesock/

You can also buy Ines' "Thriller" dance lessons on one DVD for $15 Canadian plus shipping. But with current exchange rates, that translates to a little more than $16 for the video and another $15 for basic shipping to the U.S. I've decided to try using the freebies first.

Downloading and converting this many YouTube clips to other viewable, saveable formats with TubeSock takes time -- I have downloaded 12 clips and that's had me running back and forth to my computer all morning. But it'll be done in a day or two, and then I'll load the videos onto my iPod and be able to start my lessons. All alone in a room where NO ONE is watching me. ;-)

So kids, I AM gonna give this a try. Who else is in??? :)

RE: Wanna learn

Kathy this is great! My 25 year class reunion is this August (the anniversary of Thriller) and this would be so much fun to learn! I'm going to e-mail this to all of my alumnni (we are all on this big website) and maybe we could do it together. If my kids were with me, they would kill me for doing this in public! But I think it would be so much fun, especially since this was so popular the year I graduated! To let you know how old this is, I owned the Thriller on an ALBUM (it was available -- I think -- in cassette at that time, but I had a big old ALBUM record), and I still had a record player at that time! My how the times have changed!

RE: Wanna learn

I can't believe anyone learned this in two hours. Looks like it needs days or weeks of practice. I think it's fun though.

RE: Wanna learn

You guys are cracking me up! OMG! You're really going to do it, aren't you!? There has to be some way for you guys to get together and videotape this thing :7

RE: Wanna learn

how fun! Did you see 13 going on 30 w/ Jennifer Garner? There's a great scene where she's in a club, everyone all blase' acting cool. "Thriller' starts playing and she starts the dance. At first everyone is weirded out and one by one, they all join in. It's too cute.

>Only if you join us, Michele. ;-)

>Actually, I don't see a whole lot of interest being expressed
>here so far (at least openly ;-) -- I've had several e-mails).
> So Nancy and I may end up just doing a duet.

Fine with me to do a duet with Kathy. But remember Michele, it's FUN CARDIO. As in hard to hate cardio. ;)

My lessons start tonight. :D
