Good morning,

I hope everyone is having a nice weekend. Yesterday was agility class with Keegan and he was a ball of fire for some reason. Everyone commented on how fast and enthusiastic he was. It was fun.

Valerie, thanks for the identification. I will let my friend know. She said that they looked like they were able to fly.

Judy, that looks like a beautiful place to ride.

Hi to Lori, Josie, Lynda & Dawn,

The club is having an obedience match this morning, I am going to enter Kylee and help out. Then a meeting of the Obedience Trial committee afterwards.....

Take care,

Good morning ladies!

Yesterday I did the first 1/2 of Live Legs and Glutes. Stopped at the leg conditioning drills and did the first half of Live Kickboxing and Barre on my heavy bag. Been so long since I used my heavybag. I have been using 1lb weights when kickboxing lately. Wanted my shoulder to be completely healed before pounding away. That punch to the bag can be very jarring. Total workout was just over an hour then took the doggies for a walk and swim.

Deb...what cute little birds. Very odd place for them to build a nest. Good luck Kylee!!!!

Judy..looks like that was a beautiful ride. Ended up being really nice yesterday but I was in most of the day. After being on vacation the week before the house needed some love. :)

Valerie...so sad about your dog. I know the day will come sooner than we had hoped for Chester. Right now he still is in high spirits and loving life and he seems to not be in discomfort. He just can't keep up with the young ones which is sad to watch. Once we feel we can not manage his pain then we know the conversation must be had. :(

Not sure what the workout will be today. Thinking a SB supported barre.

Have a great day all! Hi to Lynda, Josie and Dawn!

Good morning. We'd planned a road ride this morning, but are overwhelmed with smoke. Depending on wind it's unpleasant, although nothing compared to the thousands of people dealing with the actual fires. it got smoky yesterday mid day and is not unsafe but unpleasant. we closed windows ran the air for a few hours last night and are closed up for the rest of today. supposed to be onshore air flow late this afternoon which will clear the air. The fires here are horrendous and when you look at the smoke plume almost the entire west is blanketed in it. fires in many other areas besides here.

I did x train ch,ba, sh yesterday, the whole thing. I had a record of previous weights & reduced by half. did all the pushups, on my knees. It feels so good to be doing this again! ETA also did Core 1. I want to be careful though. I'm a little sore this morning, but all over and minor. Opinions? how long do you think before I increase? I was thinking I should stay in this range for a month, so I'd be doing each upper workout 4 times before increasing. I was achy in some weird spots like one wrist. Ok after being up and around but I don't want to injure anything.

Lori, it was a very bad experience. we let it go on too long and we both regretted it. there was obviously a problem, but no solution. it's hard to accept that their life spans are so short. seems so unfair. As long as chester is happy and functional. It's possible to work around more things with a 10 lb dog than a 75 pound one.
Judy that looks like a great place to ride. DH and I look for places that have xc skiing in winter. it assures us the terrain won't be too extreme. I was at REi yesterday and picked up 2 clif shots an double espresso and a mocha. didn't try them yet, but at 100 calories apiece, I don't think this will be my first choice. I was mainly there to look at some low cut boots that might fit my ankle brace better but no luck. I found a smaller brace and will order it to try with some low shoes. so many people wear low boots, there must be good reasons.

Deb, sometimes different types of swallows nest together , and the babies don't have adult plumage.

Dawn where are you?

Hi everyone--

This morning I did BarreAmped Bootcamp (68 min.).

Valerie, I was so sorry to read about your yoga friend and Aunt Betty. Very hard to get a double dose of bad news. Those fires look horrendous on the news. Sounds like they are bringing in firefighters from Australia and New Zealand, which certainly suggests a high level of desperation. Good for you on the workout for ch, ba, sh! Might as well be conservative and see how resilient you are with the lower weights.

Deb, great that Keegan is showing off his stuff! DH has so many issues with barn swallows--the bane of his life in the big barn where customers come to buy his meats. Max will be 5 this fall.

Lori, how old is Chester? As long as he is still happy and can enjoy a good swim every now and then, he is enjoying life. Wow, I cannot imagine pounding away on a heavy bag. That must be a very hard workout.

Judy, great that you finally get a ride in with DH!

I really like my son's new girlfriend. We have been enjoying their stay very much. My son seems so much happier, but I still hope he doesn't leap into a commitment too swiftly.

Good evening ladies!

Today I ended up doing a newer advanced SB supported barre. It was a recorded live class and my legs are feeling it now several hours later. I followed up with the first workout of Shaun T's Cize which is the newest Beachbody Program and what fun is all I can say! It is pretty much a dance exercise program and something I would never have purchased yet I loved this first workout. One of the ladies at work purchased it and we are all trying a couple of the workouts . If we like then we will incorporate these into our lunch workouts. My vote is a yes - will be interesting to see what the others think.

Valerie...those fires look horrific. I have been following them on the news. So very sad.

Lynda...Chester is 10 years old. Seems so young to be having these issues but all dogs/breeds are different. So nice to hear you like the new GF. I bet that is a huge relief!

Have a good night all!!!

Hi Ladies -
I have been missing for a few weeks, and just wanted to explain my absence since Valerie asked where I was. First of all, please know that I've enjoyed hearing about your workouts as well as the personal parts of your lives that you've chosen to share. I'm glad that there's no age limit on being a Cathlete - it's nice to know there's a lot of us! I'm just more comfortable with a group that doesn't discuss politics - it's my personal preference. So without any of the drama that I've seen on message boards in similar situations, I've chosen to leave the group. I wish all of you the best in your fitness journeys for many years to come!
Dawn

Good morning,

The match went well, Kylee actually paid attention for the most part. She was actually "overly enthusiastic" at times. That is not a good thing in a trial, if she anticipates the command and does the action before I say anything, that is a disqualification. She was so excited to do stuff, she kept starting before I gave the command. Funny dog.

Lori, that workout sounds tough! I know what you mean about that dreaded day when you have to discuss options with your pets. Will need to go over to the Beach Body site to see what those workouts are like.

Valerie, yes, you are smart to take it easy, ease yourself back to what you did before. Even if you don't get all the way there, you are doing it without injury, which is the most important thing.

Lynda, great about your son's new GF. What do the barn swallows do that is annoying to your DH? Damage, or do they bother the other animals somehow? I see you finished SB's Bootcamp....stretch and all :).

Not sure what is up for today, maybe some stuff around the house...late class tonight.

Hi to Josie & Judy

Take care,

Good Morning Everyone,

Yesterday I did STS Disc 12, Legs. I twisted something in my low back so I will be going to the chiropractor today. I probably should schedule a massage this week too. I'm so glad this is the last week of Meso 1.

Deb-Great that the match went well. Kylee sounds like a smart dog!

Valerie-I love the double espresso and mocha clif shots. I usually only use them when I'm doing a longer session or if I haven't eaten that much and need some energy to do a workout. The other gels I've tried are too sweet and don't really agree with me.

Lori-I need to do more of SB's new barre workouts. I've been seeing posts about Cize on facebook but I didn't know what it was.

Lynda-that's really good about your son's new girlfriend!

Hi to Josie!

Have a great Monday!

Judy

Dawn, sorry things didn't work out for you here but thank you for letting us know. Happy trails.

We kept thinking we were going to ride yesterday, but the air didn't clear and it stayed unpleasant. so I ended up taking the day off. things are much better today so riding shortly. The fire situation is still dire, still roaring in eastern WA but the onshore wind direction keeps the smoke heading further east. so it's better for us west side residents although the situation is really not much better. there is some hope of rain by next weekend but many times it only rains on the west side, and the east gets little or nothing.

Deb those doggies of yours! what characters.... who knew anticipating the command would disqualify? I think I'll be able to get back to previous weight levels. I've always been cautious and have a good record of weight I used and few "real" injuries. Still, I wish I had a more clear idea of what I did last November to cause this. I even consider things like carrying a shoulder bag on that side might have caused me to "hike up" that shoulder more and maybe do something to the alignment. I carry it by the handle now, when I use it, which isn't that much any more. I use a waist pack more than a purse now.

Judy I may try one of those gel things today.
Josie, I didn't see the ones you mentioned, the crank sports ones. I feel 'iffy" about gels to begin with, so this is a trial.

Lynda, I'm betting the swallows build mud nests where DH doesn't want them and then they poop all over the area below them besides. swallows tend to nest in big groups so what is no biggie for a couple birds is a mess with dozens. since they eat insects, I like to see them. On one bike ride there's a big old red barn ( historic feature) and the outside upper walls are covered with swallow nests.
Hope your son is not in a rush. he is probably sensible since you raised him, and I can't imagine you & your husband having goofy, impulsive kids. I think people are too quick to move in together these days. It's easy in, and awkward to get out. since he's been thru a divorce he is likely more cautious.

Lori hope chester is around for a long time to come. Those heavy bag workouts sound interesting.

Hi Ladies,

Had a great time in PS, but did not win any money at the casino this time. I did catch up with 2 of my brothers and mom and dad. I did not workout at all while there, but did get to eat a god cheeseburger which I had been craving.

Today I will be doing Grit.

Lori, Bodyatack it's like the old time high impact classes from the late 80's and yes, you would love it. Check out YouTube. I modify a lot.

Valerie, sorry to hear about your friend and aunt Betty. Hope that you find the right shoe for your issue.

Garance, I can't believe Max is 5. I remember when you got him. Glad that you like you DS's new GF and that he is happy.

Judy, hope that your DH spends more time outside. You both need your vitamin D :). Hope that you did not hurt yourself.

Deb, sounds like Kylee is getting better.

Dawn, good luck to you too!

Josie

Hi everyone--

This morning I did both low impact Hiit workouts (50:08). Pretty predictable, am I not? I think I have been doing this one every Monday for the whole summer.

Valerie, yep, the swallows create a mess, not only with the bird poop, but splotches of mud. When they are nesting, they also dive bomb people coming into the barn. DH does his best to keep them from nesting altogether and he's pretty good at getting them to nest somewhere else, but always seems to miss one or two. My son and his girlfriend have not moved in together, but seem pretty serious. I was sorry to see them leave this morning. I have been staying up late with them, though, so it will be nice to get to bed early tonight. DH has been going to bed at his usual early hour. He had to get up at 4:00 A.M. yesterday morning to pick up his chickens, then stay at his big barn for the pickups of customers who buy multiples of fresh chickens.

Judy, I am so impressed with how well you are doing with STS, despite your hip and back issues.

Lori, I think the bigger the dog, the faster they age. So if it's 7 years for every year, Chester is about 70. Max is 35, so still in his prime. No longer a crazy juvenile.

Josie, I don't know how you manage to do so much impact. I am envious! MMM--love a good cheeseburger!

Deb, the K's have been coming through for you lately. Still have doubts about signing them up for those September trials?

Yes, Dawn, good luck to you!

Good evening ladies!

Today at lunch it was just 2 of us so we both were up to doing Cize. We did the Crazy 8's workout which we both had tried previously. In this routine you learn eight dance moves that build on then you have the finale at the end. We loved it. Not sure if we will be able to get everyone to do these workouts. There are a couple of ladies that may not enjoy this at all. I understand as it certainly is not for everyone.

Deb...Kylee is so funny! What a personality!

Judy!!!! Oh no I hope it is just a minor twist and you'll be back at it. Sending good vibes! I remember feeling the same way....Please just get me through this last week. Hated those dreaded ball squats with weights and glad they did not continue on! I am liking Cize and complementing it with a Barre workout is perfect for me. I actually have doms in my waist and thighs and it must be from adding on the Cize.

Lynda...very funny you have done that workout every Monday. Yes you are very consistant with your workouts. I have also noticed you very rarely take a complete rest day. Amazing!

Josie...sounds like a fun trip. Cheeseburgers are awesome! I have my DH bring me one from his resturant every now and then. It is called the Canyon Creek...bacon, cheddar cheese, jalapeño peppers, a fried egg and raspberry jam all on a delicious burger and roll. Sounds like an odd combo but it is one of the best sellers and it is delicious. Obviously, I do not have this very often but boy when I do I am in heaven!!!

Sorry I hit reply by mistake so I am editing right now....

Valerie...I hope the rain comes soon. Those fires are so sad. You are in a safe area correct? Other than getting all the smoke which is hazidous I am sure breathing that in but certainly bettervthan the alternative.

Dawn...I wish you the best!

Have a great night all!

Good morning,

A nice day yesterday, met my friend for lunch, then a late class.

Judy, I hope the chiropractor was able to help with your back. Yes, Meso 2 is waaay better.

Valerie, I hope you get some rain...this has really been going on for so long...I would love to see a barn with swallows nests all on the side...that would be a picture for sure.

Lynda, my friend's DH works in a warehouse and says that once in a while they get a swallow's nest near the overhead door and they are awful...they are really protective and will swoop down and dive bomb anyone that gets near. We did sign up for the upcoming trials....I only did one of the three for Kylee and we are doing the Team event again this year. The team event is kind of like synchronized swimming....4 dogs and handlers do the obedience routine all at one time, and supposedly together...it could be pretty funny at times. We are doing The Wizard of Oz theme. John made flying monkey wings out of foam sheets last night for 2 of the dogs. The Mastiff ( Bess) is going to be the cowardly lion and Kylee is Toto. :).

Lori, those workouts do sound like fun...but I can see how not everyone would like them. That cheeseburger sounded good until you got to the egg and raspberry jam....LOL...

Josie, sounds like a nice time in PS. I didn't realize there were casinos there.

I do my first airport dog therapy session this morning...hope Kylee likes it.

Take care,

Hi Everyone,

I think I sprained a muscle in my low back. This happened once before, about 5 years ago. The chiropractor said I should take it easy for a couple of days. I'm using ibuprofen, ice and heat right now. I think I will do some light stretching too. Nothing else hurts so I should be able to do my 2 STS workouts later this week.

Valerie-Did you try the clif gels? I hope you like them. I hope you get some rain there soon.

Lori-yes, I hate those ball squats too. I think the leg work in meso 1 was a little too fast paced for me and I was trying so hard to keep up that I wasn't paying as much attention to my form. I've done the squat rack workouts before and didn't have a problem with those. If I ever do meso 1 again, I will be using another leg workout.

Josie-I looked up body attack on youtube. Wow, that does look like a high impact workout and it looks like fun!

Hi to Deb & Lynda!

Dawn-Good luck to you!

Judy

Judy, I have them in my bike pack but I was so hungry mid way thru the ride yesterday that I had a Kind bar instead. along with my last Stok coffee shot. we are mt biking today. I'm pretty connected to "chewing" but I will test one soon. Hope your back improves quickly.

Deb, we have little vent holes under our eaves that always attract swallows. in spring they fly up to them constantly looking for a place to nest but they have screen inside so not possible. the birds that nest in our chimney are similar but are swifts... they look a lot like swallows, fly a lot like them, eat insects. they build similar small nests on vertical walls inside a chimney. they have nested here for at least 20 years. they come back every year. we've had the chimney cleaned out and there is zero debris there, so not sure how they do it. they are silent. if the babies didn't chirp, you'd never know they're there. we watch for them to arrive in may, leave in august. we put a cap over the chimney in winter but take it off in spring for them. they are so much fun to watch, and the babies chirp like crazy for 2 -3weeks before they fly. they fly high and don't dive bomb anyone. the momma bird comes out of the chimney and flies a particular pattern all the time, easy to spot her. when she comes back she is so fast you almost can't see her zoom into the chimney. this chimney is above a fireplace we never use... doesn't work, so is basically "decoration": we have glass doors on it to seal off drafts. we use a wood stove in another room. so this worked out fine for everyone.

you can google dogs and aging and get a lot of statistics. yes, the bigger the dog the shorter their life span ...in general. remember these numbers are averages so some dogs live longer and some live less to arrive at an average number. some dogs like great dane, wolfhounds are around 7. I am reminded of this because my sister just bought a dog after a long and difficult search and was told the dog was 3 when it turns out to be 6.5. it's s german shepherd so she is feeling ripped off. she can't drive so has limited options.

Western WA is relatively safe from wildfires like are raging in eastern, but it's not impossible. we're cautious especially around4th of july. we had a lot of small brush fires this year, mostly people tossing cigarettes into dry grass along roads. Idiots. we have burn bans for most of the summer for any outdoor burning, no campfires etc. Our summers are usually dry but this year has been much drier than normal and we had no snow last winter so streams and rivers are very low. It sounds like this winter will be a repeat as it's an el nino. usually means warmer and dryer than usual with little snow. California usually gets more rain in el nino conditions, which everyone is hoping for.
more later... back again. Lori that sounds like a heck of a sandwich. I love heat with sweet, like jalapeno plus raspberry. I don't like bacon but I'd leave it out and be happy.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did ch, sh, tris with abs 1 (47:58).

Lori, I usually like dance workouts, so I should look up Cize. Tifting, though, is always a problem after you have done a dancy workout for awhile. That cheeseburger sounds great. I like weird combos, like Valerie, like salty/hot with sweet. I always take off Saturdays.

Yes, Deb, dive bombing swallows when they are nesting. They were so effective that when we had barn cats, the cats were terrorized. We also have ground nesting killdeer, and when my sons were headed down the driveway to get the school bus, the killdeer would alternately pretend to be wounded or fly at them to deflect them from the eggs. One (stupid) killdeer nest was actually in the middle of the driveway. It's great that the dogs are willing to put up with costumes. Max probably would. When he was neutered, he didn't seem to mind the cone around his neck, and would fly around bumping into things. Sure scared the calves to see him running at them.

Ouch, Judy! Sounds like something my DH would do lifting grain sacks or hay bales. Hope it feels better soon.

Valerie, I heard about el nino, which is, apparently, in conflict with the Farmer's Almanac for our winter. FA says we can expect (quel horreur!) a winter like last year's, while el nino weathermen are saying it should be very mild here. DH just says, "Nobody really knows," and he is probably right.

Hi to Josie!

Good evening ladies!

No workout with the ladies. I forgot my lunch so needed my lunch time to run out. :(. Tonight was Cathe Live CrossFire Express. I have done this one before and wow it packs a punch. I followed it up with Xtrain 100rep hip thrust.

Deb...please take pictures of the wizard of oz night! I can't wait to see them. What fun! I bet the sychronized dogs are really great to watch too. How did the airport session go? I thought the same thing about the cheeseburger. The egg and the jam really threw me off...but then I tried it! Omg! Delicious!!!

Judy...hope your back is better soon! I agree with the leg work in meso 1. That's what I should do if I ever do Meso 1 again...switch out the legs.

Valerie...little Nilla is 15 and going strong so I agree with the larger the dog the shorter the life span. Although I have had 2 beautiful Collies that lived to 14. Being a larger dog I feel very fortunate to have had them that many years. So nice to have the swallows year after year.

Lynda...I actually thought of you when doing Cize thinking you like dance workouts. Working out 6 days a week is really great. After labor day weekend (my niece's wedding) it is crunch time for me. Need to really get into bathing suit shape. We are going to Cancun in October and this is the only time I ever wear a bikini. I am a very modest person but for Mexico the two piece is always packed and my DH loves it! :)

Hi to Josie!

Good morning!

We did the airport run and Kylee was a hit! She was not intimidated by it at all....the people rushing around, rolling suitcases, loud announcements...nothing bothered her. The airline employees and the workers all came over to see and pet her. It was fun. After an hour, I figured we should go, and leave on a high note so she would want to come back.

Judy, oh no! I hope it's only a muscle sprain. I agree with those leg workouts in Meso 1....put a post it note on your DVD case to remind yourself the next time you do the series....not to do those.

Valerie, did you like the STOK coffee shots? Oh...I would love to have returning nesting birds. We had a robin that sued to come each year and built a nest in the back of the house under the eaves...but it has been a long time since they came back. We also had one that built a nest in one of our hanging planters...we had to really be careful with the dogs that spring. It worked out ok. We made sure that we counted the babies and when they were learning to fly, we took the dogs out on leash. Keeping my fingers crossed for you to get some much needed rain.

Lynda, I never heard of Killdeer before...will have to Google that to see what they look like. My grandfather used to swear by the Farmer's Almanac.

Lori, Cancun in October!!! Yes! How great that will be. Staying at an All inclusive resort? Hopefully someone will video the Team event and send it to me so I can post it.

Josie, I need to go over to YouTube and see those workouts too...just curious to see them....good you modify where you know you should.

Maybe a track workout this morning, need to see if my cousin is going...then agility class later...

Take care,

Hi everyone--

This morning I did Jazzercise Dance Hiit (48:00).

Lori, I loved snorkeling in Cancun. There's one place, if I remember correctly, at the end of the strip that is particularly profuse with colorful fish. It's been awhile since I have worn a bikini. I admire your audacity. Go for it!!

Deb, we have so many birds around here. A lot of goldfinches, red-winged blackbirds, scarlet tanagers, ground nesting woodcocks that do crazy things around dusk, and very aggressive robins who like to fight with their reflections in the window. Also, plenty of wild turkeys, ring-tailed hawks and crows, crows, crows (they are great about warning the presence of hawks). Sounds like Kylee had a great time being fussed over.

Had a pedicure and I almost dozed off because last night it was howling coyotes and Max barking intermittently at them.

Hi to Valerie, Josie, and Judy!
