Pentagenarians and Beyond Week beg 7/28

Good morning all,

Still fighting the Computer Wars...I took a half day off yesterday, dragged the PC back to Best Buy to see if they could find my e-mail folders that they supposedly transferred over...he found 3 folders! Yay...then when I got home, set it all up again...they are empty folders....actually went to Microsoft Help...had a woman on that tried to get the data for me...nothing...she said they did not do the transfer correctly...AAAAARRUUGHHH! Now do I drag this thing back to Best Buy??? Unbelievable...

Well that is my rant for the day...

Judy, you're right, I should ask for a manager at BB...so frustrating...you and I are sharing the soap box this week!

Josie, a Casino taco party sounds like fun....you are being very creative in getting those workouts in.

Valerie, I agree...no one talks to each other any more....people text each other while they are in the same room!! Nuts!

Garance, I can't believe your son works for Apple and you have a PC...LOL....you must get ragged on a lot by him...hope you don't have issues, he would be saying "I told you so"...as for using our IT people...only if they wanted to do it on their own time, and come to the house etc...we can't use them for personal stuff at work...

Lori, great that you are seeing nice results from those workouts!

Agility class this morning, then we are having a massage training session at the dog club this afternoon with the lady that does Keegan's massages....

Later...

Did 2 miles on the treadmill at 2.5% grade, then a bi & tri premix with core 1. a nice workout in about an hour. I watched Low impact hiit while I was on the treadmill. somehow I don't think I've done that one though it does use a step for a few things but not too complicated footwork. I could not find a thing to watch on TV so it's weird but watching another workout while on the treadmill is kind of fun.

Judy responding to your comments on levitation holds. I cannot do those and I never can tell why. somehow I can't activate my core to lift upward while sitting like that. or maybe it's something simpler... like my arms are too short? I have difficulty with all yoga positions with my legs rotated outward like when sitting cross legged. my hips /upper femur does not rotate outward much. always wonder if that is somehow connected to not doing levitation holds either. been doing yoga for close to 10 years now and it's not changing.

DH and I have pondered switching to apple because people seem to love them. not many seem to "love" Microsoft systems. we've always needed to stay with pc's because of work but now we don't anymore. I've thought of getting an ipad just to see if I fall in love. Deb, I'm no techie.... good luck with that...maybe you'll get moved up the hierarchy far enough to get someone who knows what they're doing.

Good afternoon ladies!

What a beautiful day here. Nice and sunny and very little humidity.

Great workout this morning. Did Imax2 followed by cardio circuit. They are both on the same dvd. Did Imax first still had energy so I just continued on. After my energy was gone!!! Still needed to take chester for his walk so immediatley went before I had time to change my mind and we both enjoyed it.

Valerie...when I run on my TM I am at 2.5% incline also. Funny because when I first started with TM workouts I thought most increased the incline. I actually have found that most do not and amazed that I do. So used to it it does not phase me. It is automatic for me. Oh and I love love love my ipad! Was my first apple product. Next was my iphone and the computer will follow at some point. I am liking apple because everything just works with no major issues. This has been my experience so far.

Josie...I am going to look up Shawn T's challenge. Curious about it.

Have a great afternoon all!!!!!!!!

Lori I used to run at 4% but after knee surgery I never quite made it back and stopped at 2.5. I don't use the treadmill as much anymore so let it go with that incline. my concession to getting older I guess!

just finished the other half of bi's and tris and core 1. having guests this afternoon so that is all there's time for.

that's what I mean....people LOVE their apple products. never heard anyone say they LOVED their Dell or HP. I will maybe ask santa for an ipad for xmas this year just to see if I LOVE it too.... I think it will be easier when traveling than a laptop.

Good morning,

John is fishing, left around 5:00...so I have the day to do stuff around here, yay....plan to get a workout in, then laundry....etc....

Valerie, I used to watch FitTV while on the treadmill, or even infomercials for fitness products, LOL....so I completely understand watching Cathe workouts while on the TM...I think you will like the iPad once you get used to not having a mouse. Definitely easier when travelling... The decision you have to make is if you just want wifi, or 4G...I got the 4G one, and spent the extra $100, but never use it. Also costs me $15 a month on John's cell phone plan...which I keep saying I am cancelling but forget to...

Lori, I agree Apple makes great products, my first was my iPod, then the iPad...I am leery about a regular computer, because I like all the Microsoft Office products. I know there are clones, or a way to use Office on a Mac, but I have not been up to the challenge yet. I am starting to like Windows 8!!!! do you believe it? no one likes it at least not when you first get it.

We have a graduation party at 4:00 today, I have to make a fruit salad, not so hard. I gave up on Best Buy, I called into Microsoft again, and had a guy there help me with my e-mail set up, I have accepted the fact that all my contacts, folders etc from the old e-mail are gone....BB sucks at technical work...

Hi to Garance, Josie, & Judy!

Deb every time I go past fitTV it's some kind of Emergency room drama, which happened this time too. mot sure if that's all that's on there? used to watch the cooking channel too but again, every time I look they are having some kind of speed cooking contest with people creating something out of odd ball ingredients. again, nothing I find interesting. I did one quick pass thru on all channels and stuck in the cathe disk since I didn't have hours to try to find something.

Now I'm not an expert here, but do you run a hard drive back up system? I got one and I assume it keeps my info backed up. at least my email contacts even if not every email since the last "back up". I've never used it to restore a system but bought one after my last computer unexpectedly tanked. it was under $100 depending on how much memory you need. I don't remember if I got the $59 dollar one or the $79 one since DH got one for his system too. we have 3 computers, 2 desktops and a laptop so they've never all died simultaneously so one always has the info.

enjoy the fishing weekend!

Good morning ladies!

Another beautiful day here. Maybe showers in the afternoon but right now nice and sunny. DH went to the pool and I just went grocery shopping and now doing laundry. Something is wrong with this picture!!! Lol! Actually he works so hard and yesterday was crazy busy at the restaurant so he has earned a relaxing day.

My body is still tired from yesterdays workout so today I plan to take Chester for a 4 mile walk and this will be it for today.

Valerie...that is amazing running on that incline. 2.5 is still a great percentage! I know what you mean about getting older. Things just don't work the same. All things considered I think our little group of pentagenarians are pretty tough ladies!

Have a great time at the party Deb!

Hi to Garance, Josie and Judy!!!!

Hi Ladies,

Clean up day today. The party was a success , everyone had fun and enjoyed the food. We have enough leftovers to last for a couple of days.

One more week before my grandchildren go back home to get ready fo school. I'm going to miss them :(

Have a nice Sunday!!

Josie

Good morning,

We went to my nephew's graduation party yesterday and I ate too much! ugh...parties are killers for the diet.

Valerie, I haven't seen Fit TV in a while, at 5:00 am it used to be a lot of yoga, and fitness infomercials. Never saw emergency type stuff. I can fully agree with you though, you can spin around the whole gamut of stations and not find anything to watch! I used to actually tape Regis & Kelly and watch that on the treadmill at one time. Then I got into the iPod cardio workouts and stopped watching TV. I did back up my hard drive on to an external drive, and did it right before bringing the computer in to Best Buy....I just came to the conclusion that all my e-mail stuff that was lost was never backed up...I only had stuff from a couple of months in 2010, and no contacts. That is one good thing about Apple products, all your stuff is backed up in "the cloud"...LOL...everyone always asks where "the cloud" is....

Lori, it sounds like you had a nice relaxing Sunday!

Josie, doesn't the summer just fly by? Are the grandkids looking forward to school?

Hi to Garance and Judy!

Work, no class tonight ( yay!)....

Good evening ladies!

No workout this morning. One of my sleepless nights. Kept waking up all night long. Very frustrating. Had a second wind when I came home this weekend so I quickly did T25 cardio before I got settled in. P90x chest and back can wait until tomorrow!

Josie...I like the simplicity of p90x. Not a ton of equipment. I did the entire program last year but was really bored toward the end. Never thought I would pick it up again especially after STS. This round I am only doing the weight workouts 2 to 3 times a week. This is working well for me. I have no desire to do p90x2. After reviewing, it just does not interest me at all. Sorry that the grand kids will be leaving soon. :(

Deb...those dreaded parties!!!! I know exactly what you mean. So easy to over eat.

Speaking of food we are on vacation next week. We are going to the Cape for the week. We have a time share and love going every year. We have a friend that comes 1/2 way thru the week and stays a few days. Boy when the three of us are together the drinks and food become never ending. I have my Ipad loaded up with workouts in anticipation and hoping I can balance things out.:eek:

Have a great night all!!!!

Hi Everyone,

Saturday morning I did a short run, Sunday I did Burn Sets Bi's & Tri's and this morning I did a Spinerval workout.

My allergies have really been acting up lately, I think we are getting fall pollen here about a month early. Usually I don't get these symptoms until September. I bought some Claritin D on Sunday and it's starting to kick in.

DH will be taking FIL in for his driving assessment on Thursday. He seems to be doing better since his daughter and family were here. Having them visit seems to have made a difference. He is more motivated and alert and just seems happier. I think he has something to look forward to now, since they probably told him they would be visiting more often.

Tomorrow I think I will do Butts and Guts before work.

Hope you all have a good week!

Judy

Good morning,

No workouts this week, I am back in "slug" mode...that and eating like crazy...I get these once in a while, it's almost like the old "time of the month" thing...

Lori, sorry about the sleepless night...awful, been there... funny you are going away next week, and so am I. Going to California to visit John's sister, who is not doing well. She is in and out of hospice, and they do not give her much longer. I am also anticipating a lot of eating, that is what we do when we sit around. I will be bringing my iPad too, only have Travel Fit...what other downloads would be good with no equipment and limited space? Maybe Slide & Glide? I think she uses weights in that one?

Judy, so great that your FIL is doing better...it's almost like he needs people around...can he get picked up and taken to an adult community center where he can see other people? My Dad used to go to the one in his town, play cards, have lunch there, he loved it...

Hi to Garance, Valerie, & Josie...

Work, no classes tonight...maybe take Keegan for a walk, he has lost a pound since cutting his treats etc....I should have someone doling out my food...

Deb-I'm so sorry about John's sister

We've tried getting FIL to go to a senior center and he won't have it. To be honest, he really doesn't like having people around all that much, but having his daughter and a grandson there was really good for him. His daughter moved to Colorado over 20 years ago and from what I understand (I've only been in the family since 2007), he was devastated when they moved. He went to visit them once or twice a year until 2008, when he was unable to handle the altitude. Otherwise, he never acts like he is lonely or that he wants anyone else to visit him.

Hi to Lori, Lynda, Valerie, & Josie!

Judy

I've been doing something every day.... sunday we did a bike ride not quite as long as usual. one road we ride was chip sealed recently. got to the turn off and we stopped dead. no WAY are we riding on loose gravel with skinny tires. so we went back the way we came, and added a short different loop. ended up with 23 or so miles.

did a hike yesterday. absolutely lovely 7.5 miles about 3000 feet gain, up and of course back down. we started early but even so, the flies were awful on the way out. it's warm and august, and the black flies are incredibly bad. it's a big reason we usually don't hike in august. I had on long sleeves and pants, hat and we were going fast so was very warm but I still have a lot of bites today. not everyone is bothered as much as I am.

the altitude in Colorado takes some getting used to. I have trouble with sleeplessness, headaches etc when there for several days until I acclimate so not surprised your FIL with his congestive heart failure has issues. easy to get dehydrated too since you need to drink a lot more. my mother also would not go to a senior center. just wants to be left a lone.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

Let's see. On Sunday, I did Turbo Barre lower body express (52 min.) On Monday, I did Cardio Quick Fix, both workouts (44:39) and took Max for a walk after dinner, and this morning I did Burn Sets bis and tris with core 1 (49 min.).

Had a great time with my artist friend, who brought me two gorgeous photographs that I will have framed with archive specifications. They are large and absolutely stunning. I'm so glad I chose to ask her for a couple of her works rather than money. Went to Jacob's Pillow on Saturday and loved the troupe (soloists from the Paris Opera--Troisieme Etage). Dh and I went out to dinner after at a new place and I had a great meal. Sunday I went to see The Way Way Back (a coming-of-age indie film) by the same writers who did The Descendants. It was very good, but I also didn't think it was entirely credible.

Deb, so sorry to hear about your SIL. If she doesn't have long, I imagine it's important for John to have some time with her. KCM has a lot of 30 minute workouts that use no equipment.

Judy, does your FIL have any old friends he enjoys?

Valerie, black flies are the worst!

Lori, try not to worry too too much about overeating on vacation. I didn't gain on mine, but I am very mindful of portion size (one Danish, one small soft-serve, no sides--cole slaw and fries--with my crab cakes).

Hi to Josie!

Hi Ladies,

No wo for me today. I'm taking the kids to the Santa Ans Discovery Center. This is a hands on museum and will probably be there the rest of the day ;)

I will check in later.

Josie

Good evening ladies!

This morning was T25 total circuit and tonight was p90x chest and back.

Deb...sorry about the slug mode. We all go thru it at one time or another. Sorry about your SIL. Very sad and wonderful that you both are going to visit with her. My heart goes out to you and your husband. Slide and glide is a good choice. When I do this I do not do the weight portion. In addition to travel fit any kickbox or hiit workout can work. Turbo Barre maybe a good leg workout. I am going to look into this one. I am looking forward to travel fit. Have not done this since the end of June. It is a tough little workout!

Valerie....black flies are horrible and they hurt when they bite! Imthink it is funny that you consider 23 miles shorter!!!

Garance...glad younhad a good time with your friend. The photographs sound beautiful. It is nice to have this remebrance of your friend. Sometimes money is not the better form of payment.

Judy...glad that your FIL found some comfort with family. I was thinking the same thing as garance...perhaps some friends can visit if he has any nearby.

Hi to Josie. Hope you enjoyed your day with your grand kids! How is the foot feeling?

Have a great night!

Good morning and Happy Hump Day!

This morning I did 35 minutes of STS #5. That was plenty for me. I have decided that I can "allow" myself to shorten the STS workouts, so that removes the dread factor for me and I actually do them. After work last night ....I did the first workout of Couch to 5K outside with Keegan ( who is on a diet and needs exercise too)...he did not want to do it....I had to drag him the last 3 jog minutes, and stopped at 7 because he wouldn't do any more. I wasn't sure if something was really wrong with him so I didn't push him any more. I will only do 4 jog parts next time and see if we can build up from there. I really liked doing those outside, it was the first time I had ...always on the TM before.

Judy, it's too bad about FIL not wanting to go somewhere where there are people around...it sure helps with keeping the mind active. Even if you could get him there 1 day a week.

Valerie, your DH is enjoying retirement I see! Great job on the ride and hiking!

Garance, I would like another no equipment workout that I can download to the iPad...only ones that do that I think are Cathe. Maybe S&G with no weights, like Lori mentioned. Travel Fit is perfect....I will try to do that while we are there, also some walking etc. Glad I got the C25K on my iPod. BIL says that SIL sleeps 18 hours a day...we will have a lot of time to kill and I don't want to spend it eating!

Lori, how are you liking P90X? I kind of like Tony Horton...although some people get tired of his chatter. I liked all the upper body work, but the legs? not so much...and his kickbox and yoga? ugh...so basically when I did that series I subbed all but the upper body work with other workouts.

Josie, have fun at the Discovery Center with the G-Kid's!

Work, then agility class, switching to Kylee for this session, Keegan needs a break, and he has a trial in September, I want him to like it again...

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Cardio Supersets Express + Step (47:10). I also took Max for a walk after dinner last night.

Good for you, Deb, on working out and doing it your way! I think Lori is right about Turbo Barre. If you eliminate the upper body work, all you need is a chair and the little pink band. Sounds like Keegan is not in the mood for working out this week.

Lori, it's not only that the photographs are beautiful--they are also valuable. She has sold many of her works to museums and private collectors. I wasn't sure when I asked her if she would consent to give me one in exchange for payment (I wrote a long piece for a book she is putting together of several of her works.) She ended up giving me two!

Sounds like you are having a great time now that you are retired, Josie.

Hi to Valerie and Judy!

Good afternoon ladies!

This morning was T25 lower focus. Tonight will be walking Chester.

Deb...The first time I did p90x I loved it until the last couple of weeks. I was ready to move on but I was determined to complete. I do not mind Tony at all and I received great results which started my love of weights. I felt Cathe's cardio/plyo are tougher but I actually did like his yoga. The yoga to me was the hardest workout! WOW! Once I did STS I did not think I could go back to P90X and I am glad that I was proved wrong. I am only doing the upper body workouts. The rest is T25 and then a Cathe on the weekends. :)

Garance...yes you are correct. I looked up Turbo Barre and the Barre portion is just under 30 minutes so this can work. I completely get it now with the photographs. Good for you. and receiving 2 no less!!

Hi to Jose, Judy and Valerie!
