Your time of the month>Can you still exercise thru it??

Anyone exercise during that time of the month? What kind of exercises do you do? Do you slow it down a bit or step it up a notch? What is best?
Charlotte~~

Absolutely, you can exercise through it! I highly recommend it! A good sweat can really help minimize cramps and just generally make you feel better.

With respect to how intense, that is completely up to you. Do whatever level feels comfortable; some people prefer to tone it down, others find they're good to go at full throttle. Listen to your body and just do what feels right.

Cheers,
Sandra

UGH I slow down in a major way. I know it's supposed to help cramps but when all I want to do is curl up on the couch, eat chocolate & watch daytime TV it's awfully hard to get motivated.

Usually by the 3rd or 4th day I'm back at it, but the first few days I typically don't do any physical activity at all.x(

I am one of the lucky ones who has absolutely no problems when it comes to TOM. No cramps, no bloating, no weight gain. I don't know why, just always been that way. I consider myself lucky because I've got close friends who actually get sick from it! I workout everyday with no problems...KNOCK ON WOOD!

Everyone is different. It depends on how you feel. If you feel too tired to workout -- then it may be best to tone it down.

I always used to workout during that time of the month and it made me feel better (after I was done). I avoided AB work for obvious reasons and was careful with my low back (because of TTOM-induced back pain) but still did heavy weight training and intense cardio.

I don't have one anymore so it's not an issue for me at this time. But I'd say those old ideas regarding women not exerting themselves during TTOM are BS. Do what is best for you.

Maximus,

You sound like me. My second day is the worst. I need one of those handicap signs to put on my car for just that one day. Usually the next day, I feel like superwoman again. Weird.

Whether I want to or not I do my scheduled workouts during TTOM and always feel so accomplished afterwards. A good Cathe workkout does so much for me mentally and physically!

Just because I want to see how many will get jealous of me...I don't get "that time of the month" anymore since I got my Mirena IUD. I haven't had a period since September!

ooohhh those firt 2 days for me I really don't WANT to, but I do it anyway. I am always glad afterwards too because I feel so much better. I know when I start feeling the cramps coming on, I need to go workout. What I like to do is run because I start out feeling very sluggish and I like to get moving and really sweat.}(

Exercise during your period is better than Ibuprofen or any other pain med for me. Sometimes I can go harder, sometimes not. It just depends on the day. Working out always puts me in a better mood at that time because otherwise I am such a crabass!x(

I had the same reaction to the Depo Provera shot. I didn't have one for almost 3 years. Unfortunately, I also gained 30 pounds during those 3 years! I'm not blaming it ALL on the shot, but it was definitely partly to blame (along with finishing a master's thesis, defending it, etc. etc.)

I can't on day 2 or 3 or I'm out for the count. I also have to plan a nap for those days or I'm in trouble. I used to exercise through it but things became way too nasty and my dr. was suggesting surgery. I'd end up going for 10-14 days in length, and it was terribly heavy. I'd be shakey and sleepy. Then I slowed it down during that time and it became manageable. This is when I fit in stretching...not to any particular tape just as I watch tv or listen to music.

Our bodies really are all different and we have to listen to them.

I can't tell you what is best because every woman is different and in my case some months are worse (in terms of cramps) than others. I usually try to workout as I normally do, but if the cramps are really bad I take an unexpected day of rest and resume exercising the next day.

I have good and bad days ... I try to work through it. If it is a really bad day I'll try to do something lighter like go for a walk but not push it ... because it's usually only really bad for a few days max.

I do my schedualed workouts anyways. The first 15 minutes really suck. Then its smooth sailing from then on.

I notice that when I don't exercise and drink my water I have a horrible time getting through the first 3-4 days.

Oh Maximus, doesn't endometriosis suck?????? That stuff puts cramps and TTOM in another league. x( I couldn't believe the difference when they lasered... some of it. I hope the Seasonale helps! Do any of the OTC meds touch your cramps?

Autumn

What's this lasering? I just started dealing w/this during the last 2 years (was on Ortho for like 12 years & it was a miracle, then went off it for a year--when I went back on for some reason it had completely lost its effectiveness). Anything to get rid of this nightmare!

Here's hoping the seasonale helps too--just started it Sunday so I'm looking forward to 3 months cramp free........

Yeah, I'm so jacked up on ibuprofen the first 2 days I can barely eat. When I feel it coming on I automatically take 8 advil. Then another 4 about four hours later. God forbid I cut myself b/c I'd bleed a river.

OHMIGOSH! this isn't the 50's! yes... you can exercise... yes.. you can swim... yes you can take a shower.... yes you can even *gasp* have sex!

i just can't imagine allowing something so natural to change my course of exercise (or anything else) each and every month! it's a fact of life that you just go on and do the same things during!
