your genes

Tallchick

Cathlete
Do you come from a family of athletes? Are your family members sports and fitness oriented or is that somethng you picked up without any familial influence. Thank you.

TallChick!

Thanks for asking something personal of Cathe. No offense, Cathe-Trippers, but for those of us who can't make it because of scheduling, all the chatter's depressing me.

I'm from a family of short fat folks and I've been working out with Cathe's videos for about 10 years now. I'm still short (5' 4") and not really that fat (147 lbs.), but I've got the best physical exam numbers ever (58/min HR, 100/70 BP, 154 Chol).

I, too, would like to know if Cathe's just blessed with good genes or if she works like a mad-woman to swim against the current in a short fat gene pool (like me).

Bumpity bump bump bump,

Ang :)

Hi Tall Chick! I am 100% German and grew up speaking German until I started school. I was raised on fattening German sausages, deep fried potatoes, dumplings, and heavy brown gravies. My mother is a a little overweight on a petite frame, my father is overweight with a muscular frame. But both of my parents recently went on diets and lost weight so for right now they are at healthy weights for their frames.

Looking at my long term German family tree, it appears most of the men are large framed and somewhat overweight and the women were short, medium bone structure and fairly overweight.

My parents and grandparents unfortunately grew up through the difficult war time in Germany and therefore didn't have the luxury of playing many sports or focusing on a fitness oriented lifestyle. Healthy food and freedom of choice was not a given for them. I'm thankful that I was given this opportunity and it is partly what motivates me to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.

But as a child I loved movement, going from ballet, to gymnastics, to track, to fitness instructor in high school up through now. I loved athletic challenges and the feeling of accomplishing those goals. Ironically I'm not a huge team sports fan (baseball, football, basketball, etc), but rather am more interested in artistic or individual sport (dance, gymnastics, track, etc).

Wow, I got long winded there and after all that not even sure if I fully answered your question :7 Take Care!

Hi Ang! I'm sorry that you can't make the trip. I feel badly that you are feeling left out due to the chatter. It certainly is not intentional. Is there anything that I can answer for you that you would like to know about :)

Wow, Cathe. Thanks for your info. Of course we're curious about you. I'm just too shy to ask because you always seem so busy with all your projects. I can't wait to meet you & everyone else in July!

I also apologize for all our chatter. Yes, it must be very grating to "hear" us go on & on.

Marla

Ang!

Sorry we can't contain ourselves. I would be VERY depressed if I couldn't attend also. Good for you on the super physical exam numbers. Keep up the good work and hope to meet you on the next trip should one be planned.

Cathe, your sense of gratitude for your opportunities is a touching tribute to your family's sad and difficult history, I can only just imagine how proud of you they are. Thanks for sharing with us, you choked me up and I now have even greater respect for you. Thanks again.

Take Care
Laurie:)

Cathe,

Oh gosh! I didn't mean for everyone to think I was about to jump off a cliff! I just really enjoy the forum as an opportunity to stay motivated by reading about others who are struggling like me.

I sympathize with your German ancestry. I'm a Cajun (born and bred)and there's just no getting away from the food at any family gathering. Plus, I have the fortune of being married to a wonderful guy who (unfortunately) can eat absolutely ANYTHING and never gain a pound. Do you know how hard it is to eat healthy at Buffalo Wild Wings?!?

Anyway, Cathe, words cannot even begin to describe how wonderful I think you are. I could gush for hours about how much you motivate me ("I feel a blast coming on"), how you make me laugh ("was that a goat?"), how you push me harder than I've ever been pushed before ("give me everything! Where's your fuel, folks?"), how sometimes you say exactly what I'm thinking ("double knot your shoes and let's get going").

I hope you guys have a fabulous trip and you'll have to tell me all about it when you get back!

Ang :)
