today I went shopping and spent over $100 on UNDERWEAR! Yep, you heard me right! I have lost weight since I started Cathe, and had to buy a whole new set of bras. They are expensive! I went down to an A cup since I've lost weight, so I'm practically flat chested, and I'm not a petite person at all. I couldn't believe it I spent that much, but I really liked the "Angel Push-Up" from Victoria's Secret. Anyone else find a brand that they really like?

I've done the same thing. I lost 50 pounds and I just couldn't wear the old baggy underwear anymore. I'll probably have to buy another round when I reach my goal in another 30 pounds.

Congratulations!

I solemnly swear that I am up to no good

I went down from a 36 D to a 32 B/C. I'm an inbetween size and that's hard to find x( I need to go to VS and find something I like.

Congrats on your wt loss!!

Catherine

Congratulation's on the weight loss!! :D :D

I buy only Bali bras because they have the best support going. $100 would buy 3-4 bras depending on if they were on sale. I've never been impressed with VS just because their line of bras offer little, if any, support. They do have some cute stuff they just need better engineering!

Bali bras should be available at any department store -- but if you live near a Kohl's, look for them there. They often have 30-40% off, making them under $20. I agree -- they're good bras!

My #### are so non-existent that I wear padded bras in order to not be mistaken for a boy. Target's in-store brand ("O'Malley and Flanagan" or something) is great for A cups. The price can't be beat, either.

I hear ya on the high cost of losing weight. It's a great achievement and all but boy can it break the bank   !!

I recently had to do the same thing and walked away from VS spending over $100...I went from a 36 DD to a 34 B. I really liked the Ipex Demi (the one with the underwire...I haven't tried the new non underwire one yet). I also really like the Very Sexy Push up bra that they have as well.

Good luck on the weight loss!! Keep up the good work.

I used to manage the intimate apparel area of a department store, and from the feedback I received from guests and team members, Bali and Wacoal are two great brands. Bali bras cost less, but Wacoal bras last much longer.

Now that you've invested in some new bras, take care of them---wash every two wearings, never wear two days in a row, handwash, air dry. Ok, I'm off my bra soapbox for now :)

Congrats on the weight loss!!

Yes, Wacoal! I swear my Wacoal bras have changed the shape of my figure. They are worth every cent.

Lisa, why never wear two days in a row? Sad to say my bra care has been considerably shabby, per your rules...:p I better get on the cup, er, ball :D

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming ‘Wow - what a ride!’ — Peter Sage

I have not heard nor seen Wacoal bras??? Where do you find them? I have got to try one with all the positive comments!:)

To answer a couple of the bra care questions.....
1) Even if you have a handwash cycle on your washing machine, I would still stay clear of it. The gentler the washing, the longer your bra will last.
2) As odd as this may sound, your bra needs time to "breath" and regain its shape, which is why you should not continuously wear the same bra.

Before investing in new bras, get a bra fitting and enlist the help of the "experts" in your department store. It's amazing how much some of them know!

40something,
You can buy Wacoal bras at any major department store.

I also agree wholeheartedly with Lisa Marie about using the knowledge of the salespeople in the store. For one thing, I wore size 36C for years until I had a proper fitting and they told me I should be wearing a 34D. Who knew? They also showed me bra styles I never would have considered looking at which turned out to be the best style for me. I honestly went from looking kind of dumpy and matronly to looking pretty darn good if I do say so myself.

Since I wear my bras more than any other garment of clothing and since I now consider them to be the most important garment in my wardrobe, the $54 for my Wacoal bras actually seems like a bargain to me. I mean that sincerely.

And no, Wacoal is not a client of mine. Honest. :p

I will have to travel to the city to shop for these as our local Younker's does not carry Wacoal. I'm sure it's because of the price point.

I agree about proper fit. So many women wear poor fitting bras and just plain poorly constructed bras. I hate to see another woman/girl walking towards me and her boobs are bouncing up and down, up and down as she walks because her bra has no support.

I was fortunate growing up in that my mother made all of us girls wear properly fitting, properly constructed bras. And since my twenties I have also slept with a bra on at night and despite four pregnancies and breastfeeding all four and being a size 'G' in maternity/nursing bras...I am very happy with the state of my 40+ yo bust and I attribute it to the fact that I have always worn proper support so gravity has not had a hey-day with me...yet!
