Reduced Fat Natural Peanut Butter! I remembered reading Wendy saying something about it last week and we all wondered if there was such a thing. I was in a tiny grocery store in our small town today and there it was on the shelf. I'll post the label here. It's by smucker's and they may be getting by with something by calling it "natural style" pb.

It's made by Smuckers and here's the nutritional info. On www.smuckers.com it's under natural peanut butter.

They sell this at my grocery store, but I don't buy it. I just get their full fat variety. I'm not concerned with the total fat as much as I am the total calories. That's only 10 calories less than the full fat, and only 4 g less fat. The only ingredients in the regular, natural variety is peanuts and salt.

There's also Laura Scudder's Old Fashioned Peanut Butter. The ingredients are just peanuts, and that's it! I like this brand even though it has a little more fat (2Tbsp is 210 cal, 150 fat cal, 16g fat, 2.5 g sat fat, 6g carbs, 8g protein). I don't trust fat replacement ingredients. I also pour off the oil on the top before using it to reduce the fat a little. I live in CA, so I'm not sure if it's available everywhere. If you do a search online you can find how to make your own peanut butter, but it's always easier to just buy the premade stuff.

This may be a stupid question, but, do you pour off some of the oil in natural peanut butter?

>Wendy, You will always be "the crazy chick who bought
>imaginary peanut butter" in my book:* :* LOL!!!

That's okay...it's not the first time I've been called crazy! ;):7

Some people do pour off atleast some of the oil to reduce the fat content a bit...others don't...it's just a personal preference.

Have a great work out!

I don't. It's more than 50% monounsaturate, some polyunsaturate and a titch of of sat fat. The reduced fat variety has added starch to replace the fat and that increased the calories but not with something more valuable than the 4 grams of fat. A reduced fat product is not necessarily healthier than a untouched product and may be worse but we are so conditioned to fear fat. The French eat more sat fat and have fewer heart attacks and less obesity. The Mediteraneans eat more monounsaturated fat and the same is true of them. It's your overall calorie intake that matters. You can get fat on a lowfat diet if you eat too much thinking it has fewer calories. Fat is a good thing in moderation!

I pour off about 1/2 or less (too much, and that pb ends up more like setting cement!). It's just too oily for me otherwise. I'm not too worried about the fat in nuts in general (but peanuts are one of the highest fat nuts).

I am addicted to peanut butter. I've been buying the Smuckers variety for a long time now. But I just bought the new "Simply Jif" and it has 20 less calories per serving than the Smuckers. Doesn't have that homemade feel to it but it's great for dipping celery.:)
