Who has a Vita-Mix?

dmd

Cathlete
Hi,

I recall that a couple of months ago someone owned one of these. I have a couple of smoothies and love soups allot. I saw the Vita-mix demonstrated at Costco once and was floored by the way it handled friuts and veggies...literally juiced them on the spot! This appeals to me. Anyone with info ? thanks~dmd

Hi Deb!

I don't have one but would love one! :7 I searched here and there were a couple threads. The third link has only a mention of it by Dr.David911. Maybe someone who has one can pop in and help you more. OT...but I just wanted to say Hi! I bet you and hubby are very busy this time of year with singing engagements??? Merry Christmas to you both!

RE: Hi Deb!

Hi guys

I have one. It is just so powerful. You put your shoe in it and it comes out as babyfood. I use it all the time for smoothies and veggie drinks, but I didn't master the soup part yet. Mari

RE: Hi Deb!

Thanks Mari for chiming in!

Funny about the "shoe baby food". My blender is not handling the frozen fruit I put in very well..it's a Cuisinart! Just takes forever and I find I have to limit my options a bit. Just wonder if there is a way to buy one for less than $350?? Guess they're worth it. Mari, can you give me the pro's and con's of using your vita-mix?

Thanks~dmd

RE: Hi Deb!

Hey Deb!

Thanks for posting links!! You, my dear warm this place up so much. Really, I think Cathe should send you some free vids or something...perhaps put you on payroll, okay, I know lets not get carried away! Yep, we are super busy. Started shopping yet? Boy, do you have some baby toys to buy or what? I have a couple of new nephews to shop for...babies, both under 3yrs. old. My baby turns 12yrs. this month...sigh. Don't blink cuz they grow so fast!

Blessings~deb d.:)

RE: Hi Deb!

I have a Vita-Mix and I just LOVE it! I was hesitant at first when my husband wanted to buy it because of the price. But now that we have it I use it all the time and nothing else does what it can do.

Besides smoothies and soups, we have made vanilla ice cream (low fat), pineapple sorbet, whole fruit juices, iced frappucino...you name it. It is really fun to experiment with. The part I really like is that you can take whole fruits and vegetables, wash them, and without even having to peel them, you throw them in and it makes juice. You get all of the fiber, all of the vitamins and all of the taste of whatever you throw in. There is no waste like there is with regular juicers. I think it really will puree just about anything you put in it! It would be great for making your own baby food. Plus, everything you make is very fresh. Sorry, I can't say enough good things about it.

So I guess it just really depends on if you would use it enough to justify the price. I think it is a great tool to have for "clean eating", and if you're in a hurry nothing is faster. I don't think you would be disappointed.

Ok...sorry if I rambled and this is long. :)

Free vids!

I'd go for the free Cathe vids over being on payroll! Tee-Hee! You're too sweet! I've missed you around here. I see you pop in every now & then. I've been pretty busy myself with life. Did you know we are building again? FUN but ooooh, so much to do. Yep, the walk-in closet is getting filled with gifts for the grandkids. Have to hide them you know. Last year Kennedy was in our closet and saw one of the princesses (Cinderella, Belle, Snow White or one of them) picture on the box thru the thin bag. She screamed, "Nana, looook!" Lil' stinker. I am hiding them better this year. You are absolutely right..our kids grow up too fast. My "baby" is 26 and his sis is 31. YIKES! Enjoy the middle school and high school years with him Deb. Before you know it, you'll be helping him pack for college! :-( Have a wonderful holiday season and say hi to Steve.

RE: Free vids!

I'm just echoing what Nicole said. I bought mine on ebay for $280 -- it was worth every penny. It is perfectly fine w/ frozen fruits, it makes great smoothies or even ice cream. The only downsite is its noise -- it's loud as a freitht train. But my pets are alreay used to it!:)

RE: Free vids!

We bought ours in '95. We use it every morning with our protien shakes with frozen strawberries. We've had no problems at all. We use it for soups too. Just leave it on for 90 seconds and its warm. When your done just put a cup of water and a squirt of soap and turn it on for 30 seconds and its clean. I love it.

RE: Hi Deb!

Hi Nicole,

Wow, sounds great! Tell me, what model do you have? I went to the Vita-mix website and became a bit confused as to what I would need.

Thanks again~dmd;-)

RE: Free vids!

Deb,

Oh boy, my 16yr. old has compiled a list of colleges she is planning on applying for! She is a junior this year. Her brother came home with his first "girlfriend" story today...Oy Vey!

I tell you I could do that whole baby thing again...but then agian it is good to sleep right? Don't you just want to eat those babies up sometimes? Just chew on a chubby little limb;-) .

I have had a rough year. My dad passed away last November. Then I had a health scare ( I thought I had a TIA small stroke...after many tests found it was a migrane aura..hormonally induced...a perimenopausal symptom). Long story short, I became very, very anemic. I was at the time eating a mostly vegetarian diet. Well, I have added meat back into my diet for the iron. I wasn't happy about it, but I was not absorbing the iron otherwise. The anemia kicked my butt. I really had to curtail my workouts, put my 1/2 marathon training on hold. I am feeling better now. Thanks for saying hello, Deb.

Hope your building endeavor goes well. Sounds exciting! Take care~ deb D.:)

RE: Hi Deb!

I have the original Vita-Mix 5000 in white. I went to the website and it looks like they're selling it with or without the dry container. We got the dry container at the time because as I recall they were having a one day special where the dry container was free. We bought it at the exchange on the navy base for around $350 when they were having a demo. So it doesn't appear that the prices are going down. We've had it for four years. So I think that price at Costco for $350 is good (if I remember I think that's where you said you saw it...if I'm mistaken I'm sorry). On the website it's $400 for the same model, and then I'm sure you'll have to pay shipping.

To be honest, we haven't used the dry container all that much, so if you're looking at that too I would really consider whether or not you would use it enough to justify the price difference.

Any other questions let me know!

RE: Hi Deb!

Oh sorry about that...I guess I wasn't clear. When you go to the Vita-Mix website, on the home page I clicked on the left where it says "click to buy." From there it brings up the Vita-Mix 5000 on the left and the Vita-Mix Super 5000 on the right. The difference is the Super 5000 comes with a dry container that has a unique blade for grinding only dry ingredients. For example if you want to buy whole grains like oats and make your own flour. It will also knead dough so you can use it to make breads, pizza crust etc. Oh, it will also grind coffee beans. Basically anything that is not "wet".
Also if you go to Vita-Mix FAQ's, and click on performance & specifications, it tells you about the dry container.

Hope that clears things up!

Me again Debbie!

Wow, I didn't realize your daughter was that old. Driving, eh? As far as having another baby....not me! I enjoyed my two but hubby & I are finally enjoying the "empty nest" syndrome right now. First year to embrace it for almost 32 years & it's wonderful! Now is our time to go visit the grandkids or have them here. Just you wait. Another exciting time in life! I am sooo sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. I had no idea. Last Christmas had to be very sad for you. I can relate due to losing my Mom, Dad & brother at young ages. I have had several aura migraines. I have something happens where I see black spots in front of me even if I close my eyes. Scared me to death when it happened about 5 years ago but a friend of ours in the community who is an optometrist assured me it was very common and that it was a migraine. He said you don't have to worry about a brain tumor or dying or such. Whew, relieved me sooo much. I'm glad you are feeling better. Hope you can get back eventually to training for your marathon. Have a great week Deb
