Hi, I am new to this whole step aerobic thing. I am 34yr.old, 135lb. and never really work out much at all. I had my 3rd son who is now 18 months and after my third child I can really tell how it has taken a toll on my body and I really want to get fit. I went today and purchased a stepper for step aerobics and my question is what is the best step aerobic video to start out with for new beginners. I would appreciate any replies. Thank you

Hi, soon to be 34 here, and trying to get into better shape myself after a few months off from regular work outs. Congrats on your decision to get fit! If you've never done step before your best bet would be to get Cathe's Beginner Step/Body Fusion dvd. I dont believe this comes in VHS. If you only have VHS capability I'd start with Step Heat. Did you purchase the long "club style" step or the shorter version?? You'll need the longer one for Cathe's workouts.

Just a few words of advice...don't do too much too soon, it'll lead to frustration and "throwing in the towel". Plus, Cathe's choreography can be tricky for a beginner. If you find that to be the case, you could always start with another instructor and come back to Cathe. Start out a low step height, such as 4 inches or practice on the floor with no step at all. In addition, dont forget to include resistance training in your quest for fitness!

Welcome and have fun!

Hi Stacey, thanks for the advice. I purchased the step at wal-mart it was the longest i seen available and with 2 levels. Do you have any suggestions on other beginner step dvd I could try? What do you mean by resistant training? Thanks again.

I'm not sure what tape would be good for a beginner but when you do find a tape you like I recommend that you watch it at least two or three times before doing it. When I got my first step tape It took me a while to get all the moves down. Dont get frustrated all the moves will fall in place after doing it a few times. I wish you the best of luck and have fun at it!!!

Hi, I think you can start with the basic step and body fusion dvd. It is a great workout for a beginner. You can use dumbbells to substitute the tubing that Cathe uses. The Cathe cueing of Cathe is great a usual and she repeats the steps. I think it is easy to learn the steps. You have weight training and abs in the stability ball too.Welcome.

I just started with Cathe, although I've been working out a lot already. I wasn't up on step choreography, and quickly got lost with the All Step video that came with my step.

I got Cathe's Basic Step and Body Fusion DVD, and it helped tremendously! Now All Step doesn't seem so foreign. In Basic, she repeats a lot and really breaks it down so you can learn the moves. Then those same moves (+others) are used in her other videos.

Hi, I read your post and am semi new to Cathe myself, except I am 56 yrs. old.
I have ordered her Muscle Endurance and Power hour for muscle toning, but was asking about easy to follow aerobic tapes too. I do have a suggestion for you.Have you ever order fom Collage Video Guide? THEY have a website and a catalog. i just got two step tapes that are easy and not intimmidating at all. Here are the names. hope it helps.

"Gin Miller Simply Step Classic Moves " This is a great video and she is fun and it is easy.

Kathy Kaehler basics workout Class A very good step workout and easy to follow.

I am orderring Cathe's Basic Step myself to try and hope i will be able to follow.

Hope this helps.

I second the suggestion to check videoclips and descriptions at collagevideo.com

Resistance training refers to weight training. Don't fall for the myth that weight training will make you look like a man either!

Thanks alot for the info link to collagevideo. The site really is helpful with choosing a workout routine for your fitness level also. I'm grateful for all suggestions and will keep you updated with my results and how everything is working for me... Thanks again.:)
