when did you get smittin?

Cathlete
Do you remember when you were first smitten by Cathe? how long or short was it before you realized you were in more then you could get yourself out?

I had been Firming for about 3 months or less and realised, it wasn't what I was looking for, so I decided to try this "Cathe" I kept hearing about.

I popped in Pure Strength and it was perfect. Then I tried her cardio. I really liked it, sometimes it was too complex and it got me breathless at times. I have a tendency to be a "perfectionist," so if I stumbled during my workout, I was really bothered by it or I felt like I wasn't working out.

I put her cardio back on the shelf for a while. So, for the next month or so I worked on my cardio endurance. I tried it again and that's when everything clicked. I was hooked. I personally can not do anything else besides Cathe workouts(w/the exception of the gym).

I have tried many other workouts, but I like the way Cathe teaches, her intensity, her choreography, her personality and her body(Jai's, too)!

Summer of 2002. I discovered the videofitness website and searched it for a strength-training workout. Cathe's Pure Strength was very highly ratad and highly recommended, so I bought it, and here I am! I was so in love with Pure Strength, that I did nothing else for several months. Then I purchased Power Hour and Slow & Heavy and loved those too!

I loved the spare, clean look of set; the use of the barbell; the variety of interesting and effective exercises; and Cathe's down-to-earth personality. Cathe had me hooked from the very beginning.

Oh, I have to add something. I was also very inspired by the way Cathe looked. Big, tall, Amazon women look great in videos, but I'm small and petite and never related to those women. When I saw Cathe, there was a psychological connection to her physicality, which I believed was more like mine, that inspired me SO MUCH. It made a huge difference.

In the amount of time it took me to get through MIC without feeling like I was going to die. So...a month?

I bought my first Cathe video in 1997 (from Collage), two years after my first child was born. Prior to that, I used many other videos, such as Kathy Smith and Kathy Kaehler. I had all of Cathe's videos on VHS and used them to get back in shape after my son was born in 2000. I lurked around these boards for a couple of years before getting my username and actually writing anything on them.

you both have hit on some very interesting things for lack of a better word about the Cathe smittin. I have recently in the last month purchased the firm sculpting stick and some videos. I thought I liked them. I was reading on the firm board and someone mentinoed Cathe videos. I came here and I feel mezmorized.I feel a connection unlike I do with the firm. I tried looking at the videos again, even opened a new one and decided, I'm not doing that. Now where can I sell it. It is so different and I can't figure it out. You can have 5 women all doing the same thing but for some reason, there is a different flare aura about Cathe that I feel smittin. I am going out this morning *to* purchase my step. I am determined it's mine. I'm claiming it. I don't know how she does it but she is blessed to have the persona she has, the carisma. It's me even if I can't do one video YET!!!. I expect my first today and I will do it no matter what else I've done today!!!! Thank you for writing. I feel so.... weird that this is into me. Like I've taken the right medicine. The others were a skimming of the ingredients that I needed to get healthy. Thank you again and I hope more write in. I know I'm going to journal this so I will be able to tell the followers how it feels and let them know they are on the right track.

Talk to you later.

this sounds like a good thing. I purchased a set of the firm from QVC. As I sit here this morning trying to decide what to do with my life in getting fit, do you think it would be a good idea to send the whole thing back, lose money in the shipping and then just get another Cathe video and work my way up to being able to do it? I don't have that black barbell you all have so then I would have to spend more money to find that. What would you do? Off to the store now. Hope I will have find my step.

When I found the Cathe website (by accident) and saw she was from N.J. (where I grew up) and saw she was short (like me). I felt a connection from that point, ordered IMAX 1 and fell in love with that workout. The rest is history.

I will be 45 years ago this May. 12 years ago, my wife and I had been members of a local gym and had done step aerobics and lifted weights. After we started having children (2 boys ages 10 and 6), going to the gym was not practical so we started exercising with videos. We started doing Step Reebok and Karen Voight but after a while became bored with the limited number of routines. We stopped working out for a number of years and became increasingly unfit.

My father had diabetes and high blood pressure when I was younger and had smoked most of his life. He did not follow his doctors advice and eventually had kidney failure and had to have dialysis. In August 1998 my father was diagnosed with lung cancer and passed away after surgery to remove a tumor. I had smoked since I was a teenager and had quit and started back many times. I tried to quit again and lose some weight after that but soon fell back into my old habits. I finally was able to quit smoking for good in April 2000 but gained a lot of weight.

During the Christmas holidays of 2001 I had been pigging out on all the goodies that are always available like there was no tomorrow. On New Years day of 2002 I was watching a football game and was running to the bathroom every hour or so but I was very thirsty and drinking a lot of water so I didn’t think much about it. Later that day I noticed that my vision was getting blurry and by nightfall I could barely distinguish the people on the TV. The next day I went to the doctor and he confirmed that I had contracted diabetes like my father. I had ballooned up to 277 lbs and also my blood pressure was extremely high. I began seeing that if I didn’t do anything, I would eventually die just like my father. I was put on several medications and started working out again and after a while began to get bored again with the Step Reebok videos. I found the video fitness board and began reading about this instructor named “CATHE” that all these people were raving about. I was a little skeptical because I had lifted only with guys in the gym and was afraid that this was gonna be a wimpy workout, but since I was feeling desperate, I decided to order the BODYMAX video which was a favorite on the forum. When I got it I was blown away by the complexity and intensity of this woman and her crew. Cathe showed a level of fitness and creativity that I had never seen before. I vowed that I would use her videos to get me out of this hole that I had dug for myself. I setup a home gym in my basement and for weeks I did BODYMAX and eventually ordered more of her videos (converted to DVD’s eventually). I eventually had almost all of them and did a Cathe video almost daily for almost a year. I cleaned up my eating (most of the time ) and have lost a lot of fat since first starting.

I now weigh a hefty 225 but mostly all muscle. I still take medication for diabetes and high blood pressure but at dramatically reduced dosages and my levels are now normal. My goal is to eventually control everything with just diet and exercise. Also, after doing KPC for many weeks, I began TaeKwonDo training and loved it and I am currently training for and hope to receive my Black Belt in December. I pre-ordered some of the hardcore series (LOWMAX,IMAX3 and KICKMAX) and am loving the workouts but struggling with the intensity and choreography but know that if I stick with it, I will be able to do those too. I just have to remember that for me to live, QUITTING IS NOT AN OPTION! Sorry to be so wordy but I just wanted to share my experience.

1997--ordered Power Max from Collage. I've been hooked ever since. Power Max remains my favorite, butt floss & all. :D

Hello there.

I started with Cathe recently-December 2004. I did Basic Step and Body Fusion first and that is a great dvd...lots of fun. Then I moved on to Power Max from the Cardio Hits c/d. I was "officially hooked" once I could get through Power Max with out that look of bewilderment on my face!!! It was such an accomplishment for me! Made me feel great!:)

Have a great work out!

Fitguy, that is such an awesome story!!! Thanks so much for sharing.

I discovered Cathe in December on FitTV and ordered L&G within the hour, hehehe. I just think she is motivating and interesting and puts a lot of thought and variety into her workouts. Prior to this I worked out at the gym a few days a week (which I still do - I like the camaraderie in my small gym)... I've owned several home workouts, but Cathe's are the only workouts I've done consistently and for which I actually purchased and didn't regret the necessary equipment, etc. I've been working out with her consistently since the first week in January and I can already see big changes in my body composition. I look and feel great!

;-)

Cheers,
Marie

About 3 years ago when the Firm was parting ways and getting into the infomercial thing, my sister told me about Cathe and how she liked her workouts so much better than The Firm. She let me borrow one to try, I think it was MIS, and it was challenging but I thought Cathe was too cheery...LOL, a corpse would seem cheery next to Firm instructors! Then I did Power Hour and I was hooked! Now my husband groans everytime Cathe comes out with a new series.

For the record, I love Cathe's demeanor.

I sent you an email but it came back to me. Let me know if you did receive something. sometimes it really goes through. If not, please send me a private so I can send it to you again.

I guess I'm one of the oldies, I bought my first Cathe video in 1987 and have been hooked ever since. I do supplement with some running and biking and occassionally buy a step tape by someone else, but all my weight work is Cathe routines. I can honestly say that I have never had an injury related to her routines and I am probably in the best shape of my life.

I bet you love the Cathe even more. I just finished my very very first with her and I am on high. I am very pleased with my decision on what to purchase. I am spending money so much to maintain my health that I hope that comes to a slow soon. Just bought the step today and my DVD came in. It feels like Christmas for myself. 18 years. Awesome. Just awesome. I will write that in my journal also t aspire to be still doing this at that age for me.:) I feel so much like I have a new lover or something. I'm here all the time, reading.I want to get rid of my old love (the ladies in Pink) so I can pay for what I just charged!!!. Thank you all for responding and I hope we get many more to our chain of *When did you get Smittin*

Peace

I first heard about Cathe from the FIRM forum about 4 years ago. My first vidoe was Bodymax, which blew me away. I only did it a few times, then went back to the Firm. About 2 years ago, needed to start working out again, I looked up Cathe again, ordered a few videos, and the rest is history!!! I have all of her stuff newer than bodymax. LOVE IT ALL!!!! Don't and can't workout to anyone else at home. Nothing compares!!

Fitguy,
Thanks so much for your story. I'm going to share it with my husband. Welcome to the group!

I remember cuz it was only a short time ago! I tried a Cathe workout last year and couldn't get the steps down and got frustrated and quit. Then someone recommended the fittv shows to try, and on December 7 2004 I did my first one and was hooked. I am now the proud owner of 36 Cathe workouts. She has killed my credit card the last few months but I think she's worth it! I've sold almost all my other workouts!
