Hello...

My husband would like to buy me some fitness equipment for Christmas....and I suggested those magnetic-attach-to-the-end-of-metal-dumbells thingies that increase the weight in smaller increments....what are they called again? And where can I find them?

Thanks for any help!

Oh, TWO words...I did a search as one word and came up with nothing. My husband thought I dreamt them upand was ready to start going after a patent! Thank you so much!

Silly question, but ...

Do they work on the rubber-coated weights? (I know, I know; rubber isn't magnetic. But isn't there some iron underneath it?)

I don't want to buy them and find that I have to send them back. I'm not good at that kind of thing! Thanks!

Hi Pearlstrand:

Just a thought, but why not try a regular fridge magnet or something else that has a magnet that you might already have round the house... they won't be as strong as a pace/plate weight, of course, but at least you can get a little bit of an idea as to whether or not the rubber coating will interfere with the "power" to connect :)

Okay, I should have thought of that!

I'll admit; until I read this post I hadn't really thought about getting those weights. But knowing that STS is going to require inching up the weights a pound at a time, it occurred to me that I'm going to need to find a solution.

I guess that's what the wrist weights and weighted gloves are for.

The mind ... it's a terrible thing to waste!

Thanks for the suggestion. It's late. I'm going to bed!

The pace weights worked on my rubber coated db. I think I will really be able to use these for sts. I bought the set of 18 (9 lbs.)

Platemates will work on the rubber coated weights, but I would be careful. If you are lifting the weight above your face (chest press) it's possible they will fall off and hit your face. I feel much more comfortable with the platemates on my metal dumbbells when the weight is going over my face.

I agree with the above poster. I would be very careful using platemates on rubber coated dbs. They stick, but not well enough for some moves.
