What do you do when corruption&incompetence always wins?

I can't tell you how disheartened I am. The whole story is WAY too long to go into. But all I can say is that where I work, there is an individual that management has decided they will do nothing about. This person lies and cheats, management knows. He's lied to management, and they know it, yet they do nothing. They have proof. They do nothing. They just bury their head in the sand waiting for it all to go away. And eventually it all will, unless his antics end up on the front page of The Washington Post

I love my actual job. The work helps people. But the @ss-covering is mind-boggling. How do you endure?

My husband tells me, this is why "Dilbert" is still going strong. Every office is like this. Every place is screwed up. So, if it is, how do you endure it?

Lisa :(

I think it makes it easier if you have someone you can vent to about it. My DH works in a very political(lots and lots of @ss kissing, back stabbing) environment. He says it helps to come home and talk/vent to an outside person. Sometimes they can have a whole different perspective on the situation.

That person you are talking about in management will get what is coming to them. The bad stuff always catches up to those kind of people. :)

I think it does help to vent. I also think you have to try to let it go. It is not getting you anywhere by stewing over it. Concentrate your energies on doing your job well, and leave the rest to karma. That is how I have learned to deal with this kind of stuff. And I think hubby is right: it's like this everywhere in every line of work.

Lisa,

I know exactly how you feel. At my last job, I was in a similar situation. My boss was good at manipulation and game playing and she wanted everyone to play her game. So people got extra vacation time, days off, free hotel stays and free food at the company expense. I ignored it for a while. I think I was the only one that was working hard and doing honest work. I loved my job but eventually I got tired of it. I was doing the work of 3 people while others did nothing. I don't regret staying at my job nor do I regret leaving either. No job is perfect and there is always going to be something that you disagree with. Only you can decide if it's worth it to stay and ignore it or leave.

Good Luck!!!

I FEEL YOUR PAIN! I POSTED SOMETHING A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO REGARDING A CRAZY COWORKER.

NO JOB IS WORTH GETTING AN ULCER OVER. IF IT CONTINUES AND THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO, I WOULD START LOOKING FOR ANTOHER JOB. ALTHOUGH I DON'T ADVOCATING TO "JUMP SHIP" EVERY TIME THINGS GET ROUGH, BUT IF IT MEANS YOUR SANTITY AND HEALTH -- MOVE ON ;)

Oh jeez Lisa, isn't it hard working for the government? Where 10% of the employees do 90% of the work.....

We have several people here like that. It used to drive me crazy but I've come to the conclusion that there's absolutely nothing that can be done. If management is too cowardly (and let's face it, that's what it is, cowardice--everyone's afraid of that dirty word LAWSUIT) to do anything about it, you have to learn to let it go. He's not your responsibility, you can't control him, & you can't let him effect your job or your life.

Remember the old serenity prayer--I'm not religious but it's still good advice--have the wisdom to accept the things you can't change.

Boy did you read MY mind!! }( And if I couldn't fire him, I would make him want to quit really, really bad!! Working for the gov't can be SO hard at times, because it so hard to get rid of bad people. And you know what? The fact that some people don't work, well, they have to look themselves in the mirror. I'm not worried about them.

What gets me is the people that actively *cause damage* to the organization, and nothing is done. And I figured out why they're dong nothing abou this guy. Because we all just got our yearly evals, and the managmement chain signed off that he is "OUTSTANDING" (the highest mark possible).

So, if they disclipline him now, they will be called on the carpet as to why they didn't know he was committing all these violations, and gave him a high mark. Their hineys would be on the line. So it's easier to cover it up.

But i"m fighting back, hence my thread on getting an MBA!! }(
