Weightloss Challenge Thru Dec. Jul 29 Thread

Weigh in yesterday - same weight. At least there was no gain. I know it has to do with my decreased exercise due to my aching hamstrings. Hammies are finally better so I think I am going to try KPC today.

Thanks Gina, I definitely want slow, steady and permanent results. It has been a lifelong struggle that is getting harder. I don't care about the numbers on the scale as much as how I look and feel with my body. I envy your treadmill! I love to walk, but here in FL the heat kicks my butt unless I head out very early.

Janie, do you have a bread machine? I'll be happy to share my wheat free bread successes with you. I am trying pizza tonight, so I'll let you know how that goes.

Happy 4th to everyone!
Lisa

Happy Tuesday, All. today's workout was a 3 mile run and then CrossFire. CrossFire was off the chain. I think it will be my new challenge workout.

Remember that migrain I had on Saturday? Well, I think eating pork and the heat contributed to that. I was out all day yesterday and had 2 pork ribs with dinner. You guessed it - migraine in the evening. So, I'm done with pork. It was lean pork, but my body is telling me to leave it alone.

Lisa, you are right about not worrying about the scale. I know my weight isn't come off like it used to, but I can't deny the drop in inches. That's the main thing for me.

Tuesday a.m.

Good morning girls!

Its nice to read everyone's progress & positive comments.

I'm glad Lisa that you have such a good attitude about the scale not moving - sometimes we put way too much emphasis on the scale and it can lead to a really unhealthy obsession with it.

Janie Your workouts sound like so much fun - good for you! And congrats on the weight loss - what is your goal?

This morning was a 3-mile quick run - I was aiming to go faster than my usual speed (which is 10 minutes/mile). So this morning my speed was 9 minutes/mile. Hopefully changing things up will help with my training.

OK, I have to read everyone else's posts, and I'll be back!

More comments

Sorry - I had to go back and read everyone's comments.

Gina - I totally agree with you about the benefits of lifting weights, and lifting heavy. That's awesome that you're loving MESO 3. I'm on my 2nd round of STS - in Meso 2 right now, but I remember that when I got to Meso 3, I felt so accomplished being able to lift heavy.

Tina - Sorry to hear about your biking fiasco! Glad to hear you had a good STS workout.

Janie - Any chance you can post your avocado dressing recipe? I just bought a couple of avocados (trying to incorporate more healthy fats into my diet), and I'm looking for an interesting way to use them.

Shereta - That's really interesting about your reaction to pork! My husband can't eat pork because it does a number on his stomach. I did some reading on why this is, and apparantely there is something in pork that many people without realizing it have difficulty digesting. But I'm really happy that you were able to identify the trigger for your migraines because that in itself is very challenging (to figure out why you're getting migraines). When you get migraines, have you ever tried to use peppermint oil, and rub it on your forehead? It may sound hokey, but I've used it many times to help alleviate the pain of a migraine when pills don't work. Plus I don't like to take a lot of pills for headaches, so this is a good way of dealing with the pain - aromatherapy!

OK all, have a great day!

Hey, Melanie. I never tried the peppermint oil, but thank God Tylenol, Ibuprophen or Excedrine works for my migrains as. But, I'll keep that in mind.

Wow, your run times are great. I ran about 11.31 pace - 10K on Thanksgiving day. It was 13.00 the year before, so there was some improvement. I hope to run an 11:00 at my half this year. It's a trail run. I'm a little nervous about that. I've added trails to my Saturday runs sometimes. The trails don't make me nervous, it's the people running the trails also that make me nervous. You have to be so careful where you plant your feet.

Did Athletic Step and Stability-Ball Abs (with modifications). Played a little on the spinning bike while viewing the new DVD's. It's so exciting! I was ready to call it an evening. So tired, it must be catching up with me. I may take a break tomorrow, maybe. Great workouts though. Will be going to our son's for dinner and fireworks tomorrow. I wished Joey Happy Birthday from everyone. He says thank you.

Shereta, Hop you had a good rest day yesterday. You deserve it.

Gina, OOPS! I'll remember from now on that trotchase is you. Love that you can post and walk on your treadmill at the same time. Wow and on your aerobic step bench for the desk. You are very creative. If there is a will there is a way. Good for you and such a great idea. I see that other people are moving during their working hours as well. But, you are saving money. Can't get better than that. Scales may not move but wearing something that is loser than before is truly progress. Congratulations!

Lisa, You might want to invest in a roller. Rolling those DOM's really helps out a lot. But, it hurts so bad. Only for a short time though. The roller has saved me from many sleepless nights. I do have a bread machine. Can't wait for your recipe. How was the pizza? Hmmmm I love pizza also. Could you, would you mind sharing that with me as well? You should think about entrying your recipes for the Eggland Contest, you may win $10,000.00 dollars. Give it a try. There is info on it at the bottom of the home page.

Shereta, Great job on the 3 mile run and CrossFire today. So glad you figured out what is causing your migraines. We all should listen to our bodies.

Melanie, My goal is to weigh 125 pounds. If I feel good at that weight I might go for 120 pounds and to get in shape like a body builder. I don't think it's ever to late. Great job on this morning's 3-mile run. Wow, 9 min running a mile. To me that is awesome!

Have a great 4th everyone!

Janie

Here are a few photos of the Beach House. One that is truly extraordinary in Westport on Pirate's Day.

There's more, but I think you can get an idea what our little place looks like.

Have a good one everyone,

Nice house Janie! Adorable puppy too. : )

Shereta, High Reps is one of my favs, great idea with the 30 min tempo run.

Today was a 40 mile wet ride on my old bike and then two cookouts. I didn't even pretend to eat clean today. Tomorrow's a new day. I'll have to do two STS workouts back to back Thurs. and Fri., and also back to watching my food intake.

I hope you all had a great 4th. : )

Tonight after the great family, company, fun and eats I did Cardio Core Circuit. I was very sweaty, just the way I like it.:) aw ha, aw ha.

Shereta, great job on a 30 minute tempo run and HR.

ReneeP, Hi there, so glad to see you here. What a pleasant surprise.;)

Fembot, Great job on a 40 mile wet ride on your bike. Two cookouts? You have to sometimes just let go. I know what you mean. Getting back on the wagon is the important thing. Good to see you enjoy yourself.

Hope everyone had a wonderful 4th,

Janie

Hi Renee.

A tempo run is a timed run where you run for about 5-10 minutes to warm up, then run for a set amount of time at a pace that is hard but doable then another 5-10 of regular running then cool down.

So for a 30 minute tempo run I did a 7 minute run, 15 minutes at a pace that was pretty hard and then 8-9 minutes at a slower pace then cooled down. It trains you body to keep running when you're tired. As you get deeper into your training, you add a little more minutesto these types of runs. For instance, my next tempo run will be 35 minutes and I'll add a few minutes to each segment.

Hope that made sense.

Good morning everyone,

Shereta - thanks for filling us in on tempo runs. I'm going to try that next week. I've been using Cathe's HIIT workouts to help build my endurance, and I can feel a difference. But the tempo runs sound like a good way to mix things up!

Janie - your puppy is too cute!!!! And great job on CCC - one of Cathe's toughest. How do you do with those roll back, roll forward squat jumps? I think that is one of the hardest moves, and usually end up doing jumping jacks for the last 3 or 4.

Fembot - A 40 mile bike ride?!?!?! I wouldn't worry too much about those cookouts. :)

So this morning was a 4.5 mile run. I came home realizing that I really enjoy running. I used to think that I hated it and I refused to run, but now I'm really loving it. Tonight will be STS Disk 19.

This weekend we're going to a b&b with some friends and I am trying to strategize before we go so that I'm prepared to stick to my diet and not blow it. I find social eating a challenge, as it is nice to kick back with friends and enjoy good food. But sometimes that leads to over-eating for me. So I have to watch it.

Have a great day all!

Happy Thursday, Everyone. Today's workout was To the Max. It kicked my bootay. I cannot believe the sweat that was pouring off me when it was time for core. I used the same step heights as Cathe for most of the workout. I missed a few reps, but oh well. I know that's a hard workout and a wonderful one to do the day before my rest day. I really like the non-traditional core work in this one. Sunday, I'll do CrossFire again. yikes, that one's very tough for me too.

Melanie, were you and i in another check a year or two ago. Man, you seem so familiar to me...... Anyway, When I loose more weight, I will be enjoying my runs more. I don't have an ipod, but I think about getting one thinking that will help me also.

Hi Shereta - yes we were in the WW check-in a while ago! But I didn't like the new WW program, so I just stuck with the old program and eventually stopped posting on the WW check-in.

I find that even following the old WW program the way I did it years ago, does not help me now. When I first did the old WW program, I lost around 30 pounds, which was fantastic! But, I didn't focus on eating healthy, just eating less points. So I would eat a lot of packaged, processed low-fat foods with no nutritional value because it was 1 or 2 points. Of course I couldn't keep that up because those foods never truly satisfy.

So now, I try to stay within the points but I'm focusing on healthy eating - no processed/packaged foods, no diet pop, no artificial sweetener, and I'm trying to incorporate healthy fats into my routine. I feel a difference because I'm not starving all the time.

I think that once you get an ipod/shuffle or whatever device works for you, you'll enjoy your runs more. I find it helps a lot to focus on something else, other than what used to go through my head on my runs like: "why am I doing this?" "this is torture!" "when will this be over?" etc. :)

Oh, Melanie, remember, we used to post our workouts and foods. Lets do that again. That helped me out so much before.

Today's workout: To the Max - sweatfest
Today's fuel:
banana, light choco milk - before workout
2 eggs, 1 egg white, veggies sauteed in evoo
salad, pbj sandwich
2 small apples, fiber bar
small serving of nachoes, homemade
a few choco covered cashews

I'm feeling good. company coming tomorrow evening for a cookout so I'm cleaning. Tomorrow's my rest day, but I will be keeping the food intake in check.

Happy Friday, Everyone. My weight is up today. PMSing. Need I say more. It's amazing how this 12 day period reeks havoke on my body. I hate it.

Jane, I love those MMAs. I never realize how had Im working and they are so much fun. I don't know Cathe does a lot of research and planning to keep giving us quality workouts.

Today's my rest day, but I"m off to get ready for a cookout for tonight.

Happy Friday everyone!

So I'm down 1 pound today, which I'm happy about. Sometimes I think "only 1 pound?" But I remember in WW the leader once said to never minimize a 1 pound loss, but to think of it as taking off 1 pound of butter. That was a great visual!

This morning I did IMAX 2, which I haven't done in a long time. Forgot how much fun it is.

Shereta - I know what you mean about TTOM. It messes me up, and I usually don't weigh myself during that week cause I know I'll be up. Hope you have a good rest day. I'll post my "fuel" for the day later on.

Janie - Do you like the heavy bag boxing? I have the workout, but haven't done that section cause I don't have a heavy bag.

I'm going up north for a couple of days, quick last-minute trip. So it messes up my planned long run on Sunday morning. Hopefully it won't be too hot later in the day so that I can still get my run in.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Rest day today. Will start STS Meso 2 the day after tomorrow.

Melanie, Congrats for losing another pound. Great job on IMAX 2, not an easy workout but yep a lot of fun to do. I do like the heavy bag boxing. It's short and sweet.

Have a nice weekend everyone,

Janie
