Weightloss Challenge Thru Dec. Jul 29 Thread

Good morning Ladies. I, too, am happy I started this thread. I need accountability with Ladies who are serious about making strong progress to weightloss, workouts and over-all health goals. And 6 months is definitely plenty of time to get it figured out. I hope to learn something new about myself each week that will help me reach my goals.

Today's weigh in showed a 2.4 lb weightloss. Yippppeeeeeee.

What did I learn from last week? I need more good food daily. I was working out hard last week, but feeling tired. I'm not a sedetary person unless I workout too hard and don't properly refuel. I need more calories. So this week, I will aim for 1700-1800 calories of good food. This can be a simple as adding in a handful of nuts or adding some good oil to stir fried veggies and chicken.

Today's my scheduled rest day and it's a busy one. Tomorrow's my long run of 7.5. woohoo.

Who's up next?

Good Morning!!

Congrats on the weight loss and upping your calories Sherata!! Even athletes eat more food while training!! And you my dear, are a Cathelete!! That should help you with energy, but not so high as to thrawt your goals. I posted late last night so I am not sure if you saw my entry, but I had written this to you:

Sherata good job on listening to your body and not running and for completing LIC!! In the past, I worked out 2-3 hours doing 2-3 workouts a day and you are right, overtraining will kick in eventually. I didn't even take a day off for like 3 weeks!! It really did a number on me and I stopped working out for a few months which was devastating to my weight and measurements! If you can continue to listen to your body and respect what it is telling you, like you seem to be with your eating and excercise, then you will reach your goals. I have learned it is all about balance. We will reach our goals in due time, this isn't a race and there is no end date....this is for the rest of our lives! Keep up the great work!

I just wanted to make sure you saw it!! You are helping me with motivation and getting my desire back to reach my goals...so Thank You!! I hope I can do the same for you :)

I am off to go garden with my father. I woke up late so I will work out later. I believe I have Step Works on my calendar for today and then I will do some pilates. I've got so much to do today!

Have a great day EVERYONE and I look forward to reading your posts!

Gina

Hi Shereta - congrats on your weight loss! That's awesome.

I'm down 2 pounds today - woohoo! What did I learn? I can live without pre-packaged, processed snacks, and the healthier choices are more filling! I can live without my diet coke/sprite, water is much more refreshing, and green tea doesn't taste so bad.

Now my challenge will be to stick with my diet, rather than think "oh last week I did so well, so I can afford to indulge a little". That kind of thinking gets me into a lot of trouble.

Looking forward to hearing everyone else's successes.

Congratulation Shereta! That's awesome!

For the first time in months, I slept past 6 a.m., and now my whole day is off. I just finished working out to M2D15 and STS abs. Left with the shakes after finishing and I think it was from such a late start. Protein powder and some fresh fruit on deck today.

I hope everyone has a great weekend. Kickboxing and a nice long bike ride for Saturday and Sunday. : )

Yesterday I did Hitt P and today was Step Moves and Yoga Abs. We put up all our curtains. They are so long that they heap on the floor and will cut and sew them until they just touch the floor. Looking pretty good. Photos will follow once I get back to Shelton. It won't be until the 5th of July. Will be there for a week. Have a play on the 8th then on the 9th back to the BH. Yea! Each place is home away from home. :) My cholesterol last year was 259, this year 211. But the ratio between my good and bad cholesterol last year was 3.8, this year 3.9. That's because my good cholesterol went down and not up. I'm so disappointed. I can't for the life of me figure out why?

Shereta, Fantastic job on losing 2.4 pounds. So proud of you! I'm glad you know your body enough to add calories or lessen them. For me if I ate that much I'd be big again, but then again, I'm not running like you are. You would need more calories to keep fueling your body. Way to go!

Gina, You are inspiring me as well along with Shereta.;) Enjoy gardening with your father. How sweet.

Melanie, Congrats on losing 2 pounds! You learned a lot. Good for you.

Fembot40, Over sleeping throws everything off for sure. Sounds like you handled it very well. Great job on M2D15 and STS abs.

Have a great weekend,

Janie

Happy Saturday, Everyone. Today's 7.5 wasnt so bad especially since I had a sports gel and water after 4.5. It really helped. Knees were starting to ache, and those hills were harder with each lap. (my neighborhood is very hilly and I'm trying not to walk any of them). I did a stretch max segment and now am feeling pretty good.

Thanks everyone for your kind words esp Gina. I'm really trying to get all my weight off by Dec, so I know as much exercising as I do I"ve got to listen to my body and fuel it accordingly. Yest, I went way too long without eating and drinking. By 7pm I had a migraine. I ate very late, hydrating and took vitamins plus 800 motrine. As I went off to sleep I was praying I hadnt sabotaged my run for this morning. I woke up feeling pretty good.

It was a good run, except I had to mace two little dogs. They came running at me barking from their house. Their 'parents' were right behind them but they couldnt get them before they got to me. They were just a yelling at the dogs. I said please get them cause I have mace and i do not want to get bit. The mother said mace them! So I did being sure to point the spray right in front of them and not directly on them. It worked. Daddy was able to grab the really bad one and the other kept barking but headed back to their house. I felt so bad. They were small but fierce as well. Daddy picked up the more violent one saying he was the worse one and kept calling him a bad dog. He said the other one just wanted to pee. I was thinking, do I look like a tree? Anyway, the mother was trying to console me. I said we've got to move away from where I sprayed before it got us, well she wasnt moving fast enough and she got a whiff. Then I started feeling bad for her. I warned them that I had one more lap so be sure to keep their doors closed to keep the dogs in. OMG. I still feel bad for the dogs.

Running behind now after this long post. Will do personals later.

Rest day for me tonight. I'll take photos of everything when the sun comes out, it will be better then. When we get back to Shelton, I'll post the photos. Don't know how to do it here.

Shereta, Terrific job on today's 7.5. And really glad that sports gel and water helped. Also for the good stretch afterwards. So sorry to hear about your migraine. Now you know what to do for the next round and (sigh of relief) that you hadn't sabotaged the run. About the dogs. It's not your falult Shereta, and it's not the dogs fault either. The dogs are just doing what dogs do. Owners sometimes makes me so mad. All of it is preventable. Sometimes they don't even have a clue on how to take care of animals. They put their furry family in intolerable situations. You are a kind, caring and good person.

Take care all,

Janie

Great Job Melanie on your weight loss and more importantly, your healthier eating!! The more you get away from processed foods and eat healthier, your body will start to crave the healthier giving you more energy in the long run too!

Janie sorry to hear about your cholesterol readings. Have you ever heard of Red Yeast Rice Extract? It is used in Chinese medicine and Clinical studies have suggested that taking 600 mg of red yeast rice two to four times each day may assist in a significant reduction of total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol (the so-called "bad" cholesterol), and triglycerides. Personally, I have not tried it, but thought I would pass the info along. I remember seeing it on Dr. Oz.

Shereta and Janie thank you for the kind words. I do desire to be helpful in whatever way I can! I have struggled with my weight for 30 years now and have learned a lot of lessons and if I can pass along any advice that can prevent someone from the mistakes that I made and achieve their goals faster and healthier...then Im all for that!! which brings me to...

Shereta, I always carry a snack with me and a bottle of water wherever I go! I'm not sure what kept you from eating and drinking yest, but it is sooo important to not go longer than 4 hours with eating. Your body has to know it can depend on fuel coming regularly so it will release the fat! Easy snacks to carry in a purse...nuts, apple, banana, protein bar (I like Luna bars myself), celery/carrot sticks, and the list can go on... I eat anywhere to get a snack in (one time even in the bathroom cuz the place had a no food rule!!). The more you do this, the more it will become habit. I don't care what people think of me anymore if I have to eat a snack out somewhere. I am doing it for my health and actually, mayble a lil for them cuz I get real ugly when Im hungry!! LOL ;)

Ok, guys wish me luck, I am off to try the new To the Max DVD!! I got it yest and Im dying to check it out, but Im afraid I may be dying afterwards!! Lol!!

Have a great day!! I have a picnic with family we haven't seen in years this afternoon.

Much love and support,
Gina

Good morning everyone!

Gina - I hope you have a great workout, and please let us know what you think of it! I'm patiently waiting to get my dvds (i live in Canada so it takes a lot longer) oh well. AND have a wonderful picnic with your family! I'm also looking forward to hearing your tips on losing weight and keeping it off!!! That for me is my biggest struggle.

Shereta - I'm really glad that you take mace with you on your runs, because it might not just be unfriendly dogs that you run into. Good for you for sticking with your long run and I'm glad to hear that the energy gels helped you. I went on a long run this morning and ate an energy chew 15 minutes before. I don't know if it helped, but I felt great during my run. I also had a slice of whole wheat bread with low-fat cream cheese and jam, and greek yoghurt with strawberries about an hour before my run. I'm trying to experiment with what I can eat before a long run, and that seemed to be a good choice. Last week I ate oatmeal, and I sort of felt that I wasn't going to be able to make it home (if you know what I mean!!!!!)

Janie - Sorry to hear about your frustration with your cholesterol. I hope that you can figure out ways to lower the bad cholesterol and raise the good. I wish I had some good tips, but I really don't. Just know that we're all behind you!

I'm feeling awesome right now - so happy! Its too early to wake my husband up, so I'll share my enthusiasm with you girls! This morning I ran 7.5 miles which is 1.25 miles longer than last week. I am so proud of myself, and just feel so good right now. :) :) :)
I stayed at a slower pace for the first half of my run, then I really picked it up during the second half and had the energy to keep me going to the end. I really feel that I'm getting closer to accomplishing the half marathon in September.

Hope you all have a great Sunday (do most Americans get tomorrow off for July 4th, or do you actually get July 4th off?) Canadians get tomorrow off for July 1st (Canada Day). So I have a long weekend! :)

Big congrats, Shereta! Woo Hoo! It feels so good to have weight loss under your belt, doesn't it? My weigh-in is coming up....

I have been experimenting with gluten- free breads in my bread machine and I must say that my taste buds loved the toast with avocado I had this morning.

I don't know your ages, ladies, but I have been struggling with my 48 year old body not rebounding from workouts like it used to just a few years ago. I push myself to do something everyday, but am wondering if I need to take some rest days. I know I need to sweat daily to lose pounds, so I am frustrated. It is a good thing that wine has no gluten!

Happy July Fourth to all! What are your plans?

Happy Sunday, Ladies. Todays workout was To the Max. I choose it because it was shorter than CrossFire. I'll do that one on Tuesday. To the Max was fun b/c I kept the step height 2in shorter than Cathe's and used lighter weights. Don't know how many calories I burned b/c heart rate monitor has a new battery but it wont take my heart rate. Whatever... I think I just need a new one. I really enjoyed the workout. Not too, too hard and fun music.

Melanie, congrats on the 2lbs. woohoo. that's what I'm talking about! Im experimenting with my fuel for runs too, that's how I came across the gels. I usually eat a Luna bar as soon as I wake up, start my run an hour later, I added the sports gel about 45-50 into the run. Congrats on your run. I told you you'd get back at it soon. You should be almost back on schedule right. My half is 9/15. Your's is 9/2 right? Around here folks get Wed off the july 4th. It's weird but we'll take it.

Janie, thanks for the kind words. Good luck posting those pics. It's always nerve racking for me. Hope you enjoyed your rest day.

Gina, I knew I'd be out shopping so I figured there'd be a food court right nearby. I was wrong. I had no idea the only food store was near the end of the strip. Then, I thought of the weather. It was 101 in the Atl area. That played a part in it too I'm sure. How did you like To the Max?

Stmilri, thanks for the congrats and good luck on your weigh in and your food experiments. I'm 46 until 9/17. All my research shows the body needs one full day of rest, so on that day you could a short walk or some yoga if you just have to do something. If you over work your body, it can rebel and cause you to plateau. Do something different - take a rest day or two. You have to realize that our bodies will probably never function again like when we were younger. Keep trying different things to see what works. For me, I workout so hard but the weight hardly bulges. So, I'm adding in more good food calories and see if that helps.

Thanks, Shereta. I do yoga on my off days, but it is such a change for me on how my body recovers. My friends of peri-menopausal age keep saying not to plan on any weight loss during this time in my life, but I refuse to believe that it is impossible.

I did a lot of weeding in my yard this past week, and felt it in my thighs for days. This is so unlike how my body use to respond just 2 years ago, so it is difficult to succumb to the body dictating how your workouts go. I will keep on the fight!

Lisa

Hi everyone!! Sounds like we all had a great day! My picnic was great and To The Max amazed me b/c I finished the routine as is!!! (no bonus w/os tho) I haven't been doing Hiit yet b/c I have been trying to rebuild my cardio endurance....well, guess what?! I DID HiiT :) Janie, you were right...When I wrote I did Imax 1 you reassured me that I could do Hiit! I actually matched Cathe's step height, but had to drop the DB weight from 8 to 5. I have a recovering rotator cuff tear and it was not likin the 8s.

Shereta, neat we did the same w/o today :) I loved the music, I loved the step tabata, Hiit 30/20 had its challenging moments so I needed 2 lil pause breaks, but overall the whole tape went very fast!

Lisa, I just turned 41 and the workouts don't take the weight off like they used to; however, my body is slowly shrinking so keep up the work! And I also used to be able to hit it hard 6 days a week sometimes 2 w/os, but now, I seem to take 2 days off every other week at least b/c my body just tells me I need it. That's all we can do. On the days like I don't feel like I can hit it hard, I do yoga, pilates, or an easy step w/o on 4". I still try to move, but there are days I have to take completely off! Oh, and I'm loving the recovery week every 4 weeks in STS where I just do easier w/os. My body is really responding to it and comes back recharged and ready to go for another round! I'll probably continue this even after STS ends.

I know we can lose the weight, but we just have to figure out what it is going to take in this stage of our lives. Consistency for me is huge in the excercise department and eating healthy - which you are focusing on trying the wheat freet thing for you. It'll just take some time, but like I've posted before, this is for the rest of our lives not a quick fix where we end up gaining it all back. I'd rather lose it slow and keep it off for good!! Wouldn't you?!

I think weight lifting is also key for us at this age. Just cardio was great when we were younger, but I've noticed my body is really responding to heavy weights. Im in STS right now and I've noticed changes. Cardio is still incorporated and important, but I make sure I always get my weight sessions in now!

I'm also looking into an exercise bike to use while watching tv & while on the computer or even trying to figure out how to rig a desk for my treadmill to walk and work. NEAT activity, non-exercise movement becomes more important for us as well!

Melanie, wow, awesome run! I envy you and Shereta. I've always wanted to run, but there is just such a dread factor for me and I can't seem to get through it. I just love the mental challenge of a complex choreographed routine from Cathe! Maybe one day....cuz my legs were the slimmest in my life when I did jog! I can only run on the treadmill b/c of my lower back so that could be my problem. When I run on pavement, my back is screamin for days! So, great job!!

Oh, and feel free to ask any questions. I still have about 15-20 pounds to lose myself. I have been up and down with my weight since I was 10, but I really feel like I've got it. So, we can do this together!

Ok, guys catch you soon. Tomorrow I begin the first disc in Meso 3!! Im excited and a lil scared...lol. I have never lifted this heavy before!

Bummer workout weekend. DH had to work Saturday, so our bike ride was out. We prepped everything last night to get ready for a 7 a.m. start to a 50 mile ride today. Seven miles in and one of my cables broke and I had no use of my big chain ring. We kept going, only to find my rear tire had a bubble in it. We were so far from home at this point, we just took it real slow. Then POW, tire blew. This is where I started laughing. Call DD for a ride, but no answer. Called FIL, who was nice enough to give me a ride back. DH didn't even wait for me to get picked up, he just took off to enjoy a nice fast ride without me. I get dropped off, only to find the front door locked and the only way in is to dodge doggie land mines through the back yard. Changed quick into workout clothes and started a kickbox DVD when my DD comes looking for me saying "dad called, something about a flat tire". I can't reach him on his cell phone and I have NO idea where he may be. Grab my dog and take off in the truck to look for him on our usual haunts and get a call about 10 minutes in that he's home and fine, just miscommunication between DD and DH and now it's too late for me to finish working out because we need to be somewhere. Long story, but I know you would all relate to the let down. Positive part is this will only motivate me for the rest of the week.

Fembot, that really is bummer upon bummer upon bummer day. Well, you can honestly say you tried, but actually you did get something in. and you got something out of it - more determination for this upcoming week.

Good luck.

Off to redeem yesterday's fiasco. STS M2D16 today, I'm gonna kick it's butt!

I hope everyone has a clean eating/great workout day today!! Lots of fresh fruit and plenty of water all day, it's going to be another hot one.

Oh my gosh Tina!! What a fiasco for you. Im sorry to hear that I know it is disappointing when you don't get to do what you want to accomplish. But I believe everything happens for a reason like maybe if you kept going you'd have gotten hurt in some way? You never know, just could be your angels watching out for you so I take things like that in stride. :) I am sure you will kick butt in this week's workouts!!

I just completed the first disc in Meso 3 for chest and back....awesome!! I've gained strength and this is feeling really good!! Love, love, love lifting weights and now lifting heavy!!

Have a great day and workout ladies!! I may go to the gym and take a water aerobics class for a lil cardio and cooling off!

Gina

Yea! I just weighed myself and now weigh 129 pounds. I feel so good today! Today is my Joey's (hubby) birthday and tonight for dinner is Paleo. Shish kabobs with shrimp, butternut squash and tomatoes with a vegie salad and avocado dressing. For his desert is Paleo banana bread with yogurt and strawberries on top. May sweeten it with date sugar. Yesterday was a 90 minute interval on the beach with walking, jogging and running. You all have inspired me to run this time. I loved it! Today Did HiiT 30/30 and felt really good with all that sweating. LOL:D

Gina, I'll take a look on the internet and study Red Yeast Rice Extract. Rice though is not on the Paleo. I'll fined out the details of this extract. Thanks for sharing your suggestions and knowledge. Enjoy yourself at the picnic with family. I can't wait to here your review on To The Max!

Melanie, Yea! Running 7.5 miles is awesome and it's improving! You should be so proud of yourself, that is a great accomplishment. Very good conditioning for the half marathon in Sept.

Lisa, I too am experimenting with gluten free breads. Do you mind sharing the recipe? Rest days (at least one day a week) are crucial. Your body needs to repair itself and get ready for the next round.

Shereta, Great job on To The Max. It sounds like so much fun. When I get back to Shelton, I'm assuming mine will be in the mailbox. :D

Lisa, Gardening is a wonderful way to get in workouts too. If your thighs have DOM's, that only means that you are working those muscles. It is a very good sign. I will keep fighting with you for health and fitness in my age of 61:confused:.

Trotchase, Thank you so much for the "To The Max" Review. I can't wait to do it. You did an awesome job! So glad you tried a HiiT. I new you could do it. Very proud of you! I agree with consistency, it's key for me as well. Losing weight slowly is a really good idea. And like you said eating healthy for the rest of our lives is key. I love your enthusiasm! It's so inspiring.

Fembot, Oh no! So sorry about the bike ride. What a time you had! But so proud of you for finally getting into the house and starting KickBox. Life, it is full of surprises. I agree that it could have been an angel watching over you to save you from something awful. You never know. Love the motivation you have.

Take care ladies, you all are doing so well,

Janie

No workout for me today. I was up and out the door really early. A 3 mile run and CrossFire tomorrow. woohoo

Hi Guys!

As I wrote yesterday about increasing NEAT, non excerice activity thermogenesis, I am typing this post as I walk on my treadmill at 1.5mph. Im not sweating, it's comfortable, and I read most people would be able to work and walk somewhere between 1 - 2 mph. It's pretty cool actually!! Now I do not feel bad about being online b/c I am not sitting! You are never going to believe what I used to "jerry rig" my treadmill desk...my aerobic step bench!! It fits perfect across my treadmill bars which are padded so it is not slipping. But wait, your elbows are supposed to be at 90degrees to allow for proper alignment to type so....I put my high step topper on top of my bench and it is perfect!! I couldn't see, nor afford, to spend upwards of 500-1000 dollars for a desk! Im excited and hope to do this at least an hour a day to help get some extra movement in. And with the TV in view, I could also hop on to watch tv too. Some people fidget and get some NEAT in, but I grew up being told to stop moving so shaking my legs and stuff feels foreign to me, but walking feels good. Sorry, this is so long, but I am really excited about it!!

Janie, you're cute. I am both Gina and Trotchase! I just forgot to sign my name, I need to add a signature ;) I loovve the beach!! I am so excited for you to be able to spend time there. Relish it! And I look forward to seeing those pics of yours. And congrats on the weight loss. Oh, that dinner/dessert sounds really good! Im sure your husband will love his birthday meal celebration!

Ok, trying treadmill at 1.3, my hip is aching a lil....prob a lil DOMS from To The Max!! I have to figure out how to fit in Crossfire or at least a premix to see how that goes!

My scale hasn't moved all month, but I wore a pair of shorts yesterday to the picnic (white to boot!) that didn't fit a few weeks ago. Progress!! I'll take it :)

Shereta great job doing your rest day!! They are just as important as the active days!!

See you all tmrw :)
