Weight Loss During Pregnancy

Hi girls,
Now I'm officially a member of the Fitmoms forum! I think I'm about 5 weeks along. I am not sure. I have an appt. on the 19th of Aug. which sucks since it's a long wait. This is my second pregnancy.I still had to lose about 15 pounds from my first pregnancy a year ago. With my first pregnancy, I put on A LOT of weight almost right away. This time I'm losing weight unintentionally. I eat more now while pregnant (clean and healthy way) than when I wasn't pregnant. Did any of you ladies have this problem? Is it normal? I work out to Cathe 5-6 days a week. I don't jump as much as her anymore but still able to do other moves. I appreciate your insight. Thanks!

Hi Lisa! My name is Jeni and I'm a HealthyMOMS Certified Perinatal Fitness Instructor as of 4/5/03! Anyhoo, I won't get on my bandwagon about the dangers of trying to losing weight while pregnant - the reasons are obvious and many - but it sounds like you may not be "trying" to do this (great!)

That said, I will say that I lost 8lbs. with my first and only pregnancy due to MASSIVE all-day sickness until week 13 (which I finished with even more "intensity" than the previous weeks). I am also a Group Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer and I taught 6 classes a week (on top of a full-time job) up to two days before I delivered - 5 days overdue (I was supposed to teach that morning). I taught almost strictly BodyPUMP and did some step until the end of my 5th month.

As far as working out with Cathe tapes 5-6 days a week, depending which ones you use and how your pregnancy progresses, you should be o.k. making the necessary modifications for your physical condition. However, it is essential that you consult and work with your doctor during this time.

Best of luck to you and keep us posted!

Hi!

I gained 65 lbs with EACH of my first 3 kids, gained huge amounts.

This pregnancy though was VERY different. I was very sick my first 13 weeks and lost 6 lbs my first trimester. I am 20 weeks on Monday and have gained 4 lbs so far. I had my sonogram this week and the baby weighs 1 lb- the Dr. told me that babies at this age typcially weigh about 10-15 oz. My point is that even though I lost in my first trimester, it did not affect the baby's growth. Just eat as healthy as possible. My Dr. told me that even though I felt sick, I should make sure the get a MINIMUM of 1,800 calories a day, but 2,200 would be better.

You are so early though I would not worry you have hurt your baby. Waiting for that first prenatal apt is really hard, I know I've been through it 4 times.

Good luck.

Hi Lisa. I only lost weight in my last months of pregnancy. I know a woman who is so sick during pregnancies that she weighs less after she delivers that before she got pregnant. The baby will get what it needs, you will suffer if you are not eating right...but it sounds like you are doing fine with that.
