Watercooler - Saturday

Hi ladies,
Had a good day today, got some much needed housework done, did a little cleanup from DH's painting on the house, hit a bucket of golf balls, spoke to the guy who will give me a golf lesson in a couple weeks, shopped at Walmart and got my 25# DB's. Other than that, nothing else very productive. DH BBQ'd some cornish hens and chicken wings, and my DB and his 2 kids are over here visiting right now. Really windy today and the temps cooled down quite a bit. We'll see how it is for tomorrow's group bike ride. If too cold in the a.m., will ride later on.

Now, to catch up on personals:

Wendy, is your DH thinking of joining our checkin? Not sure what yesterday's comment was about. The pie was very good, though everyone wanted their's warm. I liked it warm too, but maybe because the apples weren't quite as soft as I wanted them to be and heating them helped. I thought I sliced them thin enough, but maybe I didn't. Oh well, the overall taste of the pie was excellent. I had a slice for lunch today, yumm!!!!! I asked Grandma last night if she was coming to the mother/daughter luncheon and she said she planned on it. She loved DH's clam chowder (as did everyone) and had 2 bowls of it. The biscuits were good too. Are you feeling better today? Yep, you showed me Eagle pose, but you had loooootss more than 2 glasses of wine in you. I swear!! Good job on the bike ride. Hills are the toughest for sure, but so worth it when you are speeding downhill. Do you have a cycling speedometer on your bike? 35 mph is cruising for sure. When climbing I have to remind myself not to work so hard that I hear myself sounding like a freight train. Otherwise, I'll blow up later on. Use the gears to make it easier and just stay steady. Sometimes it helps to get a song in your head to stay even with the tempo. Everyone seems to suffer on the climbs, it's just part of cycling. On long climbs, at the start of the season, my lower back gets fatigued so I just stand on the pedals for a few strokes and stretch the back. Helps a lot.

Laurie, did you really think I wouldn't have some pie???? It's healthy, has apples and cream(cheese) in it. It was good! So nice for you to have your DH home. Now, crack that whip on him to get to sewing. Just like Rumplestilskin, he can spin that material into a fancy dress overnight, right? No boss for you yesterday? Woohoo! I'm thinking something like a 4DS type thing for DH next week. We'll see how it goes. I think he's concerned about his growing belly. He's even drinking Coors Light for less calories and cost. Unheard of!

Sandra, the meal was good last night and they were very thankful, as they always are. Mom is a good cook and always tries to make a meal somewhat balanced and attractive to the eye. They just eat a lot and don't exercise. Mom is a wonderful, loving caregiver to Grandma. Grandma is so fortunate to have her. The other sister hasn't lifted a finger to help and would have put Grandma in a rest home long ago. Winds are tough to ride in. I got blown off the road once on an uphill climb. I hate gusty winds and usually won't ride in those if I don't have to. How was CC#6? Was it Sean or Candice? That's a long one, huh?

Patricia, I envy you getting Lasik surgery. I'd like to have that so I wouldn't have to wear my contacts, but I'd probably still have to wear some reading glasses. I'm with you on the moderation and eating thing. I'm just not that driven anymore to be so strict with my eating. Donuts/fritters aren't my thing, thank goodness, but cookies are. I'm a sucker for them. My DH hardly eats any sweets at all, but likes his beer. I tried to check out the link to the new website, but it was down. Traci sent me a head's up. Time with your girlfriend sounds nice, back porch and dessert, aaaahhhhh! Hope those cable gremlins stay away.

Traci, big hugs to you too, hope you have a nice, healing time at the Bay. Wendell says for what he wants to do, you don't need to use your arms. Can't wait to hear from you again. LOL re: Hot From the Boobs Down!!!

Nicole, my DH would be sooooooooooo disappointed if he wanted a spotless house. Thank goodness we are 2 of a kind. It's been good (kind of) having him laid off. He's been busy tidying things up for me. He also says he's going to start doing better at the little maintenance things around the house. Hmmmm, maybe Wendy sent him that sermon on tape. Okay.... UFC? I can't watch. I hate people getting hurt or the possibility that they can get hurt. I'm a wimp that way. I haven't golfed in a couple weeks as I don't want to waste my money as I need a lesson more than golfing. I didn't do too poorly on the driving range today though. I'm excited about getting a lesson. I'm so much more comfortable posting on this laptop with my feet up. My neck never hurts anymore. Wish I could do it at work too. Have you tried any of Amy Bento's workouts? I like her step/hi-lo. Haven't done any of her weighted work yet, except for the little bit in the Dome Challenge.

Carol, your homeschooling outside sounded wonderful! One of my sisters homeschooled 4 kids. The last one is 14 years old (I think) and is a great student. My other sister homeschooled 2 or 3 of her 4 kids for a while, but then ended up putting them all into public schools. My DD is homeschooling too. Takes so much dedication. I would have killed my kids. Wow, the $100 for the wine tours sounds like a fantastic price!!! We had so much fun on the retreat at the one winery we went to. Pics are on Debra's picture trail. I'll have to google Holland Lops for visuals. In the 80's? We're going to be back in the 40's tomorrow. Boohoo. I too am enjoying the 4DS workouts, however using my own cardio choices.

Tracy, hope you had a great run yesterday. When it gets warm here, I have to take the time to acclimate to the heat when on the bike. Usually takes a couple of weeks. I guess I'm surprised to hear that your DS doesn't enjoy the road bike. No, they don't go off road well at all. They probably are pretty boring after the downhill bike stuff. I'm not a very accomplished mtn. bike rider, but I should get it out for a change. We have some great trails around here. I'm enjoying my first week of 4DS so far, though I haven't used the cardio from 4DS much. So what HRM does your DS have? Do you run with one too? LOL about what DS could stand for. Thanks for the congrats. With the economy like it is, I want to go out with as big a retirement as I can.

Kim, that's a bunch of money for your packages! I think I want to order the risers and some platemates. Now that I got the promotion, I think I should just do it. That increase from 15# to 20# is too much of a jump for biceps. And any shoulder work needs to be incremental for me as I'm such a worrier about hurting my shoulders. I'm not sure what it is I'm allergic too, maybe whatever is blooming, though I don't think our sagebrush is blooming yet and there is a lot of it out here. We do have asthma and lots of allergies in the family, but I was never afflicted. Yes, I did ride on Thursday. It was windy, but I knew coming back I'd have a good tailwind. I plan on riding tomorrow, Tuesday and Wednesday. Thursday I have a hair appointment so no biking that night. Hey, I'm a country music fan!!! Love Brooks & Dunn, Keith Urban, Montgomery Gentry, Alan Jackson, Little Big Town, Allison Krauss, you name it. Hope your concert is a blast!!! Great job on the 9 mi. run today. I always think we are the lucky ones to be outside doing something good for ourselves.

Debra, you have been one busy gal lately. Does it seem like the fatigue is going away? I don't hear of so many naps from you. Way to go on the good grade. You are a star!! How was the bowling tonite? I haven't done that in years and years. My Mom used to be in a coffee league and enjoyed it immensely. Did you pick up any antiques? I love the way you have your house decorated. You definitely have a gift. You definitely remember right when my DH was working out for a short time last year. I got tired of pushing him, as usual. The pie was really good! I left part of it for Mom and Dad and I took home the rest. However, gremlins have been into it and there isn't much left. Oooooh, the wine tasting weekend sounds great. I might just book a flight and come for a mini-retreat! Oh, I just read that the bowling wasn't good for the knee. Maybe some ice is in order. Ouchy. Bet CBL will be in for a treat with spa night. Will Julia be getting the makeup out for him too? Tweezers? He's a good sport.

Well ladies, must get off here and do some more reading.
