Vitamixer

Hi everyone!

I love my vitamixer and have started making green drinks. I have become pretty hardcore and I am only using vegetables except for a bit of ginger and lime. Has anyone else found some good vegetable drink recipes? It is such an efficient way to get more vegetables into your diet. I love it!

I have a very old vita-mixer that I still use regularly. One of my favorite quick fixes is adding baby carrots from a bag--a cup of water and some ginger. Great when you are short on time. And since I have an over abundance of zucchini--I use it to make soup--just use a lot of zucchini, some onions, vegetable broth and seasonings. I cook it on the stove first, then blend it up in the mixer. I think I'll make a bunch this weekend and freeze it for the winter! have you had any luck with drink recipes that use cucumbers? I have more than I need of those right now.

One of my favorites, and I realize this will sound bizarre, is a whole carrot, 1 cup of skim milk, a heaping Tablespoon of vanilla protein powder and a heaping teaspoon of cocoa. I sometimes add Glucomanan for fibre and to make it really creamy.

My green shakes usually include 5 or 6 green vegetables, water, a slice of ginger and a slice of lime.

Hers's a link to a whole bunch of great green smoothie recipes from this forum:

I hope the link works. I'm not that great at this... but if you search "green smoothies" you can get this great listing of recipes.

I do have a Vitamix question if you don't mind answering... Does the Vitamix make your drinks like a juicer would, or are they thicker? I try to make green drinks with my generic blender and they're really thick and unappealing. My juicer makes them thinner, but there's so much waste. I guess I'm trying to justify buying a Vitamix, because they look so awesome!

I have a collection of green drink recipes posted on my blog here : http://thecathenation.com/forum/blog.php?b=1595

I also use my Vitamix (FYI: not "Vitamixer" ;)) to make nut milks, raw veggie soups, and sauces/spreads/dips out of nuts.

Caseysmomgo: the Vitamix makes smoothies containing all the fiber, not juices (unless you strain the smoothie through a nut milk bag and make juice from it). How thick the mix is depends on how much water (or coconut water) you put in, but it will usually be smoother than with a standard blender.

Thanks Lara-Kate

Thanks Lora-kate for posting this. I forgot how much I liked my appliance and polished it up, ordered a new top and have been using it nearly everyday!

Oho! This is a timely topic for me. I am wanting to buy a mixer/blender/boinger(ha) and have discovered that reviews for them are like reviews for washing machines. Ie, it is hard to find a good one. Me and mine primarily want something that will handle frequent smoothie making. I did read about the Vitamix and it seems to be the mack daddy of blenders. For the pricetag I would hope so!! If any of you have thoughts or recommendations as to this machine or some other option, I would appreciate "hearing" them.
Thanks!
