Video for travel - suggestions needed

I will be in Puerto Rico for five months (hubby is going to a training). I am planning ahead what I am going to do during those five months to overcome possible obstacles that might arise. I won't be able to take my step, barbell, and anything too large or heavy with me. I am looking for a DVD or video, or set, that is intermediate to advanced and uses tubing for strength and endurance.
I know I can design a routine, but I just like videos (DVD's).
Gym is not an option, since all gyms there require that you register for at least one year. I have free access to the gym at Fort Buchanan but I won't have transportation.

I have Basic Step + Body Fusion but that is what I am doing now and will be doing for the next two months, before going to PR, so in the five months that follow (in PR) I want to move on to the next level and do something different. I was thinking on the original Power 90, which I have heard uses tubing. Do you think Power 90 would do? Is there more equipment needed for these or can they be done only with tubing? I also want to do varied an inclusive rotations, that is, crosstrain. These series seem to be good at that. Are they? I hate that in the website very little is said about the workouts.

One final note: I wouldn't mind workouts that require stability balls since those can be deflated and inflated...or any equipment suitable for travel.

Wow! Long post! Thank you for reading if you made it through here. LOL. Thank you in advance for any suggestion.

Tubing (with a door anchor) and Dynabands are your traveling gym equipment. You can get books and DVD's through Spri products that will give you all sorts of good workouts. Believe me, they are very sufficient to get you through your 5 months away from your "stuff."

Kick Punch Crunch will be great and I'm sure the other kickboxing ones will also work well for you. I wonder if you can buy a cheap step while you are there and then donate it to goodwill when its time to leave? Reebox step at Target is about $35 and it adjusts from 6" to 10", so you could do all your step and high step DVDs, with very little modifications. That's what I would do if it were possible.

Cakebaker, I know they are very effective and that is why I will take them with me. The best results that I have ever had in terms of muscle growth happened when I was using Bodylastics, which is a set of tubings of different strengths that can be combined for more resistance. I left them in my mother in law's house in PR, and I hope they are still there and in good condition. Anyway, I bought more tubings in walmart.

Thanks for your quick reply. I will do a search on spri products to see if I find a DVD.

Amy B, I wonder if KPC will be too advanced for me. The score it got from the poll in the video forum scares me.

I've seen these dumbells before that are deflated until you fill them with water. The link below is the first one I found when I did a Yahoo search on "water filled dumbbels" so you can probably find them cheaper somewhere else.

Also when I was having knee problems, I would just do the step tapes without a step. If you have 3 lb wrist weights you could get a pretty good cardio workout.

KPC and Cardio Kicks are great! You may need to modify if you don't feel you can master everything.....but before you know it, you'll be doing it! Cardio and Weights....all you need are 5 lbs and 8 lbs dumbbells. There is a section with a Step (if you don't get a cheap one like someone suggested), you could just do the routine on the floor.....keeping it like a Low Impact workout. I have not done Power 90, but I have done Power Half Hour (Tony Horton) and really all you need are Resistance Bands and maybe a 5 lbs dumbbell.

Hope that helps!

When I go to my inlaws, I take my KP&C & my 1lb weighted gloves. That's a good workout. Also, MIC the hi/lo protion. I've been know to do the hi/lo tiwce back to back.

Thanks for all the suggestions. All of them are great. But I still would like more opinions on Power 90. P90X seems too advanced and, if I am correct, you need the bar to make the pull ups.

Also, keep in mind that I'm going to be there for five months. So, it is not just a short vacation.

TIA

Hi again,

You can use the bands to substitute for the pull-ups in P90X. I think the Beachbody web site sells a door attachment for the bands that simulates the pull-ups.

How about the Slim Series? Another Beachbody production. I love to take these workouts with me when I travel. They only call for light dumbbells, dynabands and a mat. And they're not a space hog. I also find them to be very effective!

I started out my workout routine w/the Slim in 6 Series and then found "CATHE"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was a good start and good Cardio. Some of Kathy Smith's stuff is probably good too (Beachbody). Hope this helps.
