I am looking for a tough cardio video BUT this has to be suitable for someone with two left feet :). Looking at the video clips of Cathe's videos I am sure I would fall all over the step trying to do them! I have Kathy Smith's Marching video - very easy steps but too short and not very intense. Does anyone know if my dream video is out there?? Thanks :)

Aerobox comes to mind. It's a Kathy Smith tape but she lets the boxer, Olajide, lead the video. I think your lungs will give out before you get frustrated with choreography.

I'm no dancer but I did preview Cathe's wedding video before I gave it to my sister. Have you looked into it? Also look at Body Max, it's straight forward. It's learnable for the choreographically challenged. Plenty of intensity!

Welcome!
I have a few suggestions to work up to Cathe's choreography. Like you, I used to prefer basic choreography. Not anymore, thanks to Cathe!
Kathy Smith's Step Workout does a good job giving you the basics. Her Power Step Workout is more intense and slightly less basic. Reebok's Intense Moves has basic moves and very intense cardio.
When you are ready for Cathe I would recommend Step Max or The Wedding Video.
If you are looking for a floor aerobics tape, check out NAC Interval challenge. This is a fun, shorter and intense tape.
For any of these tapes (except Cathe's) you might want to look at www.half.com
Hope this helps.

How 'bout Cathe's MIC for the hi/lo section? It's got a half hour of HIGH intensity hi/lo, but the moves are pretty basic moves like jumping, jacking, scissors, etc., nothing too difficult or dancy-fancy. It also has a half hour step section following the hi/lo which might not interest you at this time, but might be something you'd want to try in the future.

How 'bout Gilad's Step tape? The moves are fairly simple, but it'll definitely get your heart rate up there!

MIC Hi/Lo, CK & Karen Voight

From one who has taken a REALLY long time learning Cathe's choreography -- I totally agree about MIC. The Hi/Lo is easy to follow and fun.

I also think Cardio Kicks is easy to learn for the dance-challenged, and it's a great cardio workout.

You might also want to try Karen Voight's Energy Sprint. I had it for a while before I got hooked on Cathe tapes, and it's a pretty challenging cardio tape with good music and vey basic step moves. It will help prepare you psychologically, I think, for following Cathe's faster-moving cuing.

Good luck!

Thanks all for your suggestions!! Anyone else have something different to add to my list? I like a lot of variety so keep those suggestions coming :)

Try Cathe's IMAX, this is VERY TOUGH and has simple cheography. Another one is Cathe's Cardio kicks, it's not a step tape, but it's tough and easy to follow. I've heard that Reebok's Intense Moves has basic cheography also and is right up there in "TUFFNESS" to Cathe's videos.

Kathy Smith Fat burning breakthrough

I would recomend kathy smith's new video. It's not to complicated and you don't even need to use the step. It's broken down into two waves where you gradually increase the intensity and then recover, do some weights then start the next wave. It was a Fun and intense work out!!!

I was just thinking that Interval Max might be the way for you to go. My logic behind this is that the warm up stepping is pretty basic and you repeat the same small pattern for quite a while so you can get used to it. Then she does 10 cycles where you do a brief step routine, maybe 3 or 4 moves or steps repeated over and over, then she'll do an interval blast and those are pretty much all just a repetitive athletic move. For instance plyometric leaps and jacks, ski jumps, etc. It's absolutely one of the most challenging workouts for cardio you will ever do and it also kills your legs from all the leaping and plyo work.

And another way to go is a new tape of mine I love and highly recommend for people who want tough tough work but no tricky footwork. Mindy Mylrea's Slammin Sports Cardio. It is soooo much fun, but Mindy herself is not one who can handle fancy choreography so what she does is mix in basic step moves (power moves) with athletic activities. It works on your agility, your endurance, your leg strength and it really does remind me of the kind of drills athletes on pro teams use to train in the gym. All very basic moves but tons of fun and easy to follow.

Hope that helps!
