Trying to decide between WW and Atkins/SBD....HELP!

I have simply GOT to lose this weight. I hear all the people talk about losing ________ lbs on Atkins in a short period of time. Esp people who didnt gain the weight until they hit their 30s like me. But I also hear good things about Weight Watchers. And then of course I hear bad things about BOTH of them! At this point though, I think they might both work for me if I could just stick with it! Honestly, I feel like WW would be easier to stick to and to live with for the rest of my life.

Can I see a show of hands to see which diet plan Catheites prefer most? Thanks!

I vote for WW. I've tried the program and have had good results. You can choose what to eat - and eat clean! WW online has lots of information.

I lost 45 pounds on WW, never felt deprived (only really ever "missed" cheese), and kept it off for now I think 3 years. I can't recommend it highly enough. SMART weight loss, that is really just a change in some habits. It will change you for life in a good way!
I didn't go to all the meetings, though. I went to the first 10 I paid for at joining then went on my own. The meetings probably help a lot of people, I just didn't want to go sit in another room while I was in college.

I have the books so I coudl do it at home. I'm not really thrilled wiht the whole meeting idea. Otherwise, I'd also consider doing it online. You guys sound very positive about WW which is great! I like the idea of using WW for portion control and just fitting clean foods into it. The times I've tried lowcarb I've just felt yucky instantly...kind of greasy and heavy feeling? Does that make sense? All that heavy grease and protein I guess.

So I guess so far WW is winning out!

I have done Atkins and lost weight, but I can't commit to a life long eating plan like that. Eating cleaner is a lot easier I think. I try to stay away from unhealthy carbs eating clean, but at least I could have wwbread, pasta, rice etc.
Atkins definatley works.I know lots of people who do it and love it. I just couldn't stick to it.
So I'd go w/ WW too. I think they teach you that you don't have to deprive yourself of anything.
You might lose weight a lot quicker on Atkins, but then you're stuck. When I went off, I ended up gaining at least 1/2 of the weight I lost back. So I'd go for the long haul.

WW brought me to where I am now, 30 lbs. lighter for over two years. Very balanced program. It is all about balance, not to much one way or the other.

I don't post too often but when the subject of WW comes up I just have to chime in. It is a program you can follow for life. It allows for your little indulgences every now and then and they really do stress eating cleanly and getting exercise. I've been a lifer now for almost two years now and maintaining the loss hasn't been an issue. I don't share this website very often (actually I'm kind of embarassed about it), but here are my before and after pics. It's just proof that it can be done after 40!

Oh -- don't be embarrassed -- you're SO inspiring! I'm fast approaching 40 and have some weight to lose, and your pics are great encouragement! You look wonderful; thanks for sharing!

I have done Atkins in the past , but for only 31 days. I followed the 2 week induction (only) for that whole month. I lost 23#'s. It took me 3 days to get into ketosis. I had sooo much energy at around 11:00a.m. every day. I would head straight for the treadmill in the clubhouse at my apartments and walk for an hour. That is the ONLY exercising I did during that time. At about 9 p.m. every night I was out like a light and slept like a baby. Right when I was starting my second month was when I got 14 stitches in my ankle and gave up. Now I am just trying to make sure that I burn more calories than I consume. Which isn't easy. I drank a gallon and a half of water every day also. I took a multi vitamin w/ herbs from Costco, 2 fish oils, and a potassium pill every day. I take my calcium and 1/2 of that of magnesium every night when going to bed. Just my Atkins story.:)

Thanks for sharing your photos- I almost started crying when I saw them. They are very inspirational! It wasn't until I had lost about 20 pounds that I really started to wish I had a "before" photo. I was really touched that you keep that photo in your wallet. Thanks.

I have been on ww for about a year and one half (this time) and have lost almost 70 pounds. I know I will make it to goal eventually as I can follow this program for life. I haven't gone to a single meeting and I do online ONLY!

Most people who haven’t bothered to read Dr Atkins book don’t realize that it is about clean eating. All you’ve really done is cut out processed foods such as pasta, bread and sugar, and nobody really needs those things in their diet anyway. Atkins gets his bad rap because the first two weeks of induction he limits your fruit intake. After that you can eat fruit. In reality, there’s nothing in fruit that you can’t get from vegetables anyway. Todays fruits are bred for sweetness and in so doing they’ve lost most of their vitamin and mineral content that they would normally have had, had they been left in their natural state. If you take the time to read his book you will also notice that despite popular belief, nowhere in his book does he advocate eating bun less cheeseburgers, hordes of bacon or big haunches of beef all day. He advocates eating nutrient dense foods in there most natural state, in other words, clean eating. Also you don’t need to do induction phase if you’re worried about the lack of fruit, you can leap right on into the other stages.

I’ve lost 45lbs doing Atkins and I eat more veggies then I did in my fat pizza and pasta days. It really does work and I’ve also seen other benefits such as clearer skin, less gas, and more energy. My husband lost 60lbs and he no longer gets heart burn and his cholesterol and blood pressure went down. I would suggest that you at least read Dr. Atkins book before you make your decision.

TK, your pictures were amazing! Thank you so much for sharing htem with me! You look absolutely beautiful!

Just to clear things up, I DO have the Atkins book and have read it. I've also read the SBD book. I do understand that the induction phase is temporary and you don't eat like that the whole time.

Well, it seriously looks like WW emphatically one this debate. EVeryone made great points and really helped me out. Thank you so much! I'll be signing up for WW online today! Thank you very much for the posts. :)

Another vote for WW here!!

TK, your photos are amazing. You look beautiful! Seeing your "after" shot, I remember seeing you at the Road Trip. You look amazing!
