Hello,

While Cathe will always hold a special place in my workout repertoire I am courting the idea of adding to my workout library with the latest Tracie Long Training workouts (there are four) and the Amy Bento workouts. What are your opinions- do they give a good workout- i.e. advanced?

Thanks,

Donna

Tracie Long training is so different from Cathe, so is Amy Bento. Tracie Long training is more functional fitness - its not everyone's cup of tea but nice to do as a compliment to some of Cathe's workouts. As for Amy Bento, I think that her cardio workouts are intense but short (the current workouts that she has available) and her weight work is not as tough as Cathe's. Amy is supposed to be coming out with some new workouts that have longer cardio sections in them and they are up for presale now. I would personally go for a couple of the Tracie Long videos to see if you like them and maybe try someone like Kelley Coffey. I think that Kelley's workouts are well thought out and challenging.

Fitstick:

can you tell us which Coffey workouts in particular you like? And what are the web site urls for Amy Bento and Coffey? (just in case I have no luck finding them on my own)

Thanks!

Clare

www.coffeyfit.com and www.nrgfitness.net

I have both of Kelley Coffey's workouts and they are great but The Shape of Things to Come is my favorite. She has two new workouts coming out soon that I will preorder. YOu can see her offerings on her website, I highly recommend her workouts.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. I really appreciate and value how members on this forum are keen to respond and to give help!

Hey Fitstick, I did a quick review on her videos on Collage Video and not one bad review which leads me to wonder if there are any other gems out there that you could share with us? I have never heard of her before. When I researched Amy Bento I noticed that she received a lot of mixed reviews on her videos which makes me wonder what your thoughts are on her workouts.

I love the TLT workouts. I have them all and do them regularly. There is a learning curve with these and the more you do them the more challenging they become. They are functional fitness but I always work up a huge sweat and my core gets a wonderful workout. I love, love, love the TLT workouts. I like to do these when I need workouts right at or under one hour and I want to work the total body, core, and get some cardio in (EFM, SIM). BBBB is a GREAT lower body/cardio workout. FYC is different and unique, but it is my least favorite of the four...no cardio...I do it once in a while and anticipate a time in the future when I will do it more. Watch some clips and decide...these are very different from the norm and I find it wonderful to cross train with my Cathe's.

Check out Tracey Staehle at www.fitbytracey.com. I love her workouts, especially the step. She is new to making at home fitness workouts, and this first batch was a GREAT first offering. I anticipate her next batch of workouts titled Sweatfest will be even better!

I will never order workouts from Amy Bento. Her business practices leave a lot to be desired in my opnion and the way she got her name out there was unprofessional especially since she is quick to delete posts on her forum about other instructors. That along with what she has done recently to a core base of customers who prordered her first batch of workouts when she was an unknown and who spread the word about Amy to other forums leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Hi There,
Glad I could be of help! What type of workouts are you looking for?

Here are some recommendations:

CIA has a lot of great advanced offerings available (but none seem quite as "tough" as Cathe's). Seasun Zieger is a great instructor and Greg Twombly's wife just released a workout along with Seasun that is a great bootcamp type workout. The DVD is called Double Cardio and you can find it on Collage or www.ciavideo.com. Kimberly Spreen is another instructor that I really enjoy, she has great personality and fun routines but not nearly as intense as Cathe.

Jari Love - has some good hi-rep workouts, Ripped to the Core is a good one. She is more serious than Cathe and the workouts do have some dread factor to them, lots of reps!

Amy Bento - she has potential, her last offerings were a bit short on the cardio segments but they were intense. Her weight workouts are not as challenging as Cathe and didn't seem as effective. I think her new ones might be really good, I'll have to try them out when they are released.

Tracey Staehle - she also has potential and is taking suggestions after just releasing her first 2 workouts. I've tried her newest workouts and the step one seems very good but I have only tried both workouts once. Her kickbox is short and not as intense or fun as Cathe's... but I have not tried her weight workout yet.

Pam Cosmi - she released a step and a strength workout, both are good and advanced. The strength routine is different because it uses tubing, it always leaves me sore because I think it works differently than other workouts that my body gets used to.

Christy Taylor - For cardio her workouts are lots of fun but heavier on choreography. She currently has a sale going on her DVDs at her website www.taylordfitness.com.

I have not found an instructor out there who matches Cathe on weight workouts. Of all the instructors out there, Cathe is still my favorite and no one quite matches her..

Hope this helps!

Hey, gogigi . . .

Can you give some input on the other two TLTs? I've been considering trying them. You say FYC is your least fav and BBBB is great for lower and cardio. Which one would you recommend trying first?

Just FYI, I have almost every Cathe workout and all the pre-GT Firms.

I have all 4 of the TLT, and have tried EFM, FYC and BBBB (haven't gotten to SIM yet). Of those three, I'd rank them in that order in terms of likeability (EFM highest, BBBB lowest). BBBB was fine enough, but not terribly special - I was expecting it to be much harder than it was, from all the comments about it.

I'm not thrilled by any of these, honestly, but am keeping them because I think they are actually good for me to do now and again. I do notice that my posture is obscenely good the entire day after a TLT workout, so something good is going on there. They are good as cross-trainers for other, more hardcore workouts, but I'd never imagine doing these more than 1x/week, or as part of a recovery week. I have to make myself do them, honestly.

Well, it depends on what you are looking for. FYC has no cardio and is a total body weight/balance workout but you won't be able to lift heavy like with Cathe. BBBB is very tough effective cardio/leg work without weights/core work. It is nothing like a Cathe workout, but I honestly feel if you are doing these workouts correctly and have taken the time to really master the moves you will be surprised at how tough they are. I love BBBB for cardio days when I want to work my lower body. My personal preferance would be to start with BBBB but that is just me. I love EFM and SIM for total body cardio/weights/balance/core. They get my heart rate up, again, not at all like Cathe, but they are tough if you take the time to master the moves. Functional fitness is not for everyone and I'm almost afraid to recommend to hard core Cathe fans, but if you want something comletely DIFFERENT from Cathe to cross train with and allow for a learning curve, I believe they are very, very effective and tough. I always feel my thutt and other odd places after coming back and using the TLT's after a break from them. Let me know what you purchase and how you like!

RE: I met Tracie Long & Jen Carman

>My favorite TLT is Finding your Core!

It's also the one that sells the most at collage.com...go figure. It seems like FYC is everyone's favorite TLT but mine...tee hee! I won't trade it though, b/c I do it enough and it is growing on me a little bit!

P.S. I actually met Tracie Long and Jen Carman in Charleston this past weekend. I had just learned that Tracie's gym was located in the same building as the Imax theater. Anyway, we were sitting in this building and eating lunch and I was telling my husband that I was feeling a little bit intimidated about going to Tracie's gym to meet her. I looked over the room and saw whom I believed to be Tracie Long sitting with 3 other people. I had a back and side view and wasn't sure it was her, so all through lunch I'm hem hawing about it. When I got up to refill my diet coke, my husband got up and walked over to her table. On my way back, I'm like oh my gosh, my husband is talking to Tracie. Anyway, he asked her if she was Tracie Long then proceeded to tell her that his wife works out to her DVD's. They turn around and I'm standing there with my hand over my mouth. Anyway, Tracie gave me a hug and was so nice and gorgeous in person. She invited me to workout at her gym, but our schedule was too full. I then went up to meet Jen Carman who happened to be working that day...again gorgeous. They both radiated health and beauty. My husband's coolness factor went up about 100 notches when he snuck up to Tracie on my behalf. It was totally cool and a great way to start our weekend of fun in Charleston!
