The Stability ball...

I have been doing the Intensity series without a stability ball for awhile now (didn't think I'd need it). I just purchased a ball last week and used it for the first time in PUB and PLB. All I have to say is WOW! The stability ball is my new favorite workout tool and I can't wait for more videos from you incorporating it. For those who do not own one I highly recommend it. They make the exercises so much more intense and effective.

Hi Mandy!

It's amazing what you can do with the stability ball, isn't it? Were you hamstrings screamin' from the lower body work? I think that is the first thing that has made my hamstrings sore since I can remember. You can pick up a stability ball for $10.00. What a small amount of money to spend for so much pain!}( We have four stability balls in our house in case one pops! :7

Ladies - please tell me it gets easier as you get stronger!!!!

I have realized there is NOTHING stable about my ball, or me for that matter!!
:D

I hear you! I just brought one last week and use it for PLB, ouch! I just can't balance when she is doing the planks.

I STILL cannot do even ONE lousy pike using the stability ball from PUB. I try almost every other day to do just one. I have read and tried the tips posted in these forums, but I just CANNOT do it. I too love the stability ball and will continue to work on those blasted pikes!

So maybe theres hope for me afterall!!

I'm fairly new to Cathe (only a few months) but I've definately become a fanatic and found that nothing compares!

Just one more thing to strive for!

Just remember, the couch is your friend! To get the confidence to bring your hips up higher and help stabilize your upper body, have your arms and head almost touching the couch. The when you raise those hips in the air you'll be against the couch for extra support. This will be a good step in between before you try the pike in the open floor area.

also, for hamstrings, that was sooo hard for me. I had to start by using both feet on the ball. I couldn't do the one leg thing at first, my hamstrings were so weak. Then I progressed to one leg on the ball, but the ball was against the couch. And finally I took it away from the couch.

My ball is in the living room, so I will just take a couple minutes and practice these moves every now and then. That has also helped me get stronger.

Hope that helps.

RE: Thanks Melinda!

Melinda, thanks for the couch pointer. I will try this when practicing the pikes on the ball. I'm so excited. I can't wait to try it. Hopefully this will help me not be so afraid of falling flat on my face and getting major rug burn on my nose!
Thanks again!

RE: Thanks Melinda!

Thanks from me too! I'll remember that the couch is my friend!!

So far the only way I can do anything with the ball is with it crammed in the corner so it can't escape from me!!:p

Hi Mandy! Aren't those stability balls great? It is such a small investment for such a huge impact on your workouts. And as I have pointed out in the past, it is very hard to challenge the hamstrings optimally in a home workout environment (unless you actually have a home gym with cable attachments or fitness machines). The stability ball is the first piece of equipment that I have come across that is very reasonably priced and effectively challenging to the hamstrings in a typical home gym environment. I love that ball:)

I could not agree with you more about how great the stability ball works the hamstrings. After doing PLB my hamstrings are always sore for about 2 days or more!! But its a good sore! I also really love the exercises for the inner thighs in PLB!

Shilo - I agree that PLB is an awesome workout!

PUB/PLB are my favorites right now - I LOVE how we exhaust the muscles in those two!! Just gotta keep on trying with that darn Ball and hope I get it one day!

I love what Cathe does with the SB - both the PLB & PUB tapes! The ab work especially is incredible. I did Leaner Legs followed by the SB ab work from PUB, and I was sweating like I'd just run a marathon!

Those SB's are a great piece of home exercise equipment - cheap, versitile, and SO effective! They are a "must have" for every workout area.

Just Do It! :)

OK, after reading this I am sold. Where do I get this ball and is it actually called a stability ball? I never purchased one cos it looks so big and I have so much stuff that I already try to hide in my apartment.

Hi, I got my at Target, I think it is called a balance ball. Let me tell you it does take up room, I Just put it on my son's top bunk bed so you don't see it. It is sure a fun workout and tough!

You can find the balls at many stores in their fitness departments. I have seen them at Marshall's & TJ Maxx stores combined with a Yoga Mat and pump too for a very reasonable price. I love my Yoga mat for doing push-ups, planks and any core work as it keeps me from slipping & slidding around. They work great for cushioning for AB work on your back too. They are called Stabilty Balls, Fitballs, Balance Balls, etc... Good Luck! They are great and a must-have addition to your workouts.

I have the intensity series and don't use the ball. I've been debating on whether to get one - now I think I will

Question - I'm short 4'11" - any other "shorties" out there? What size ball do you use? I think I'll get one in anticipation of the bodyblast series.

Thanks.
