We live in a fast-paced world that often puts pressure on us to do more, achieve more, and truth be told, to stress more. We spend so much time pushing forward that we sometimes forget that self-care and simply doing the things that make our minds and bodies feel good, is just as important as accomplishing whatever is on our to-do list.

For example, did you know that just spending some time with your pet, whether it be a cat, dog, bird, guinea pig, or any other type of pet, can lead to lower levels of cortisol and can help to relieve the symptoms of stress and anxiety? Simply petting your cat, talking to your pet rabbit, or throwing a ball to your dog, can release happy chemicals into your body to help restore what has been stripped away by the stresses of the day. We need to spend a little more time each day doing the things that make our souls happy!

In my new series, Lift Move & Restore: Functional Training for the Actively Aging Lifestyle, we will most definitely challenge our bodies to keep our joints and muscles primed for daily activity, but will also include workouts that give our bodies and minds time to restore balance, heal, and focus on the aspects of fitness that can lead to a happier, healthier lifestyle.

Cathe, you are absolutely beautiful.

We had to say goodbye to both our pups over the holidays last year, and it's pretty empty here without them. They were very old, and we knew it was coming. Maybe in the summer we will find a new pup to love. Or a kitten. Harder to have a cat here as there are racoons everywhere.

Even when we know it's coming, it's still hard. My condolences.

Not only do we have raccoons, we also have coyotes - so our cat is indoor except we are trying to train him on a leash so we can take him for walks around our property. He's less care than a dog yet pretty fun. He loves to play fetch and hide'n seek.
