Thanksgiving plans, cooking?

I seem to luck out every Thanksgiving as I never have to cook! I HATE cooking! My mother will be having dinner this Sunday as they will be out of town on Thanksgiving! Of course, I will be helping my mother prepare dinner. Believe it or not, I actually did offer to cook dinner, but our kitchen is quite small for gatherings. Anyway, there will be only myself, DH and daughter on Thursday as my two boys go to their other grandmother's (my ex's)so, we will most likely go out on Thanksgiving day! What are your plans for Thanksgiving?

This year, my sister in law and her two children will be coming over to our house. Normally we go over to my parents, but this year is a little different due to the fact that they now live 7 hours away. Yes, they went and moved on us! This will be my first year at trying to cook a thinksgiving dinner. I may just surprise everyone and do a healthier version of everything. I say some substitions in a magazine that I may try. Of course first I have to remember what Magazine I read it in, Ha, ha!

Take care!

We host dinner every year and we do the whole traditional turkey thing. We'll be having turkey, mashed potatoes, yams, cranberry sauce, veggies, rice and broccoli casserole, and my grandmother's eggplant parmesan. She's no longer with us, but I have her recipe!! We'll also have rolls and pumpkin pie. I'm working Monday and Wednesday nights, and I make the casserole, eggplants and pies ahead of time. My husband will put the turkey and yams in the oven Thursday morning, I'll sleep about three hours, then we'll warm everything else up and make the mashed potatoes. It works for us!

Ugh well my hubby wants to go out and I like that idea very much BUT my folks are flying in this weekend and knowing my Mom she'll be expecting a big ol' dinner.
Either way it's alright ...I'll be cooking during the week dinners and one of those will resemble a typical Thanksgiving meal minus the turkey(probably on Friday afternoon) nobody in my house or my folks care for turkey so it'll be a ham and oven-roasted herb chicken with all the fixings.
So everyone will be happy . :)

Joanna! WOW cooking for 20! More power to ya!! That's a lot of work. I cook every year too but this year its only 7 of us. Boy does 7 sound easy!!!:7 Kathy

I kinda hate to admit this, but a couple of years ago, my Mom, who always cooked the big traditional turkey dinner, made plans to visit her sister out of state over the holidays and left us all high and dry. I was coping with some health problems at the time and my sister-in-law was on call, so no one could step into Mom's shoes. We decided to have Thanksgiving dinner at Cracker Barrel.

They serve turkey and dressing, ham and sweet potato casserole, your choice of another veggie, cornbread and biscuits and pumpkin pie. And there are no dishes to wash. We enjoyed it so much, we've been doing it ever since.:D

I am cooking Thanksgiving dinner. I usually delegate some items to other family members. There will be 13 of us. I like doing it myself as I have some control over how much salt and fat etc. goes into the food ie. stuffing from scratch etc.. I then send out a lot of the leftovers so it is not a huge temptation. We alway have a lot of fun with our family gatherings.

My bf and I are celebrating, just the two of us (dinner w/family the weekend before). So, I am cooking a fattening dinner (oven roaster chicken, stuffing, mashed potatoes and MAYBE a vegetable) and a fattening dessert and enjoying every second of it! Of course, I will probably do Imax or Imax 2 that day - but I work hard all the time and feel very justified in my Thanksgiving feast. :)
