OK, How many of you mom's spend over $500.00 on a dress for a christmas dress for a 15-16-17 year old.
That they will never wear again!!!!!
A dance held in a gym.
I am blown.
I can't see it.
My well more promintent cust spent 500 bucks , plus shoes, bra ,purse , alterations, hair and nails.
You are looking at 700 for a high school dance.
Would you?
Just curious.
Not me.

Very sad.. they must be compensating for something else in their life. That's the way I look at it. Often making up for a deficency in their life. I also see it a lot in kids sports...
Funny for my daughter's jr prom - 3 years ago - we shopped EVERYwhere for a dress. Found a very elegant black strapless dress (a la audrey hepburn) at Lord and Taylor's it was last years style so we got it for something like $10!!!!!! She looked wonderful and loved it but didn't want me to tell everyone
If you look at it as the parent's shortcoming it's a lot easier not to get caught up in it! I've definetly been fuming over stuff like this many times.
There is a boy in my sons grade - has ALL the most expensive stuff - Oakleys, 400 cell phone... all the kids see through it. Sadly a bunch of the kids use him for what he has. Hmmm... you think the parents spending has somewhat backfired!
There is NO way in h*ll I would spend that much - if daughter wants to get a job and earn the $700.00 for the dance, so be it. I'll bet if it were her money she'd find ways to cut costs, wanna bet?
Just Do It!
my whole prom ensemble cost $200 b/c my made it. nobody has any imagination to do those things anymore. i am so lucky i have a mom and grandma that can sew real good. and i was sure nobody was going to be wearing the same dress as me.
$500 for a xmas dress for a high school dance. ha!! i don't think so. then again i had a job in high school so i learned the value of money and a good bargain rather early.

No, not unless I had the dough, and I can't see that happening. Then again your $500 is my $700 I think $100 is quit enough for a dress. And I hear ya on the nails and hair to.I use to work at a salon that was crawling with teenage girls in June month.
My daughter is only 9 so I can only imagine hom much it will cost when she gets older.Everything is getting more expensive!
