I have been reading in many posts about taebo. Can somebody please tell me what this is? I have been hearing about taebo get ripped, but can't find it anywhere, also, what would be a good taebo tape to start of with for a good workout ( I Love cathe's cardio kicks, still sore two days after doing this???).

Thanks

Lynne

Lynne,
I have the newest release of Taebo II (get ripped), I got it from QVC on T.V., it is the only place I have seen it. I have all 12 Live Taebo tapes, all are pretty challenging, but the new Taebo II get ripped is even more challenging. Any of the live tapes are a good workout for me. I am a big fan of kickboxing all the moves seem to target every body part. :)

In my opinion, Cardio Kicks beats Taebo in effeciency. I ordered in Fall the Live 4-pack, Advanced Live 4, 5, and 8 and got rid off them during an exchange for Cathe Tapes in January. They don't do me any good and it's a lot of hype. I also think that it's strange that at the Taebo website you cannot criticize the workouts or make other recommendations.

Tae Bo is aerobic kickboxing by Billy Blanks, a charismatic martial artist who is featured in lots of infomercials and has quite a following.

You should go to www.videofitness.com and read the reviews of his tapes to learn more. I recently ordered some of his advanced live tapes after learning basic kickboxing moves from Cathe's Cardio Kicks tape and from other kickboxing tapes, and I love these Tae Bo tapes! I definitely work hard and sweat, and the music is great!

However, some people have complained that Billy doesn't demonstrate good kickboxing form all the time, and the music is often too fast to keep good form - which can be unsafe. You don't want to pull a hamstring muscle doing Tae Bo and be sidelined for a month!

You might check out the advice at videofitness, and go to their forum to learn what others recommend - these are real people who workout to videos at home all the time, and they often have good ideas.

Even after doing Cathe's Cardio Kicks a while, you might want to get a good Tae Bo instructional video, or maybe Kathy Smith's Kickboxing tape to learn good technique while still getting a good intense workout. Then, plan on spending money collecting your next Tae Bo's, because they're not cheap! They run about $30 each, although some of his sets are bargains.

Some of the hard-core Tae Bo fans recommend Advanced Live volumes 6, 8, 11 and 12. The set shown on QVC turned out to have Tae Bo routines previously shown on Pay-Per-View TV, but the four-volume set is only $39, I think, and might be a bargain for you.

You can get Tae Bo tapes at Billy Blank's Tae Bo website, at other online retailers like amazon.com or totale.com, or as I said, www.QVC.com. Also check out those up for auction on eBay, although the harder advanced tapes are harder to come by there.

Good Luck!

From a new fan,
Dawn P.

I agree that the only really significant warning about the Billie Blanks Tae Bo series is it is VERY fast. You have to pay super-strict attention to form, and if you aren't very familiar with the moves, you may hurt yourself at the faster pace. It's a great workout, but I kind of think it's overpriced. Just my own feeling. He has a new "Tae Bo Gold" set now which is billed for men and women over 40: still tough tough tough but a little bit slower. You might try this first before the others. It includes an instructional video and a 35 minute kix-box for $29.95 though Collage Vidoe. (www.collagevideo.com) Make sure you really practice the instructional tape before moving on. It's extra important with this series.

Ditto

I would have posted exactly what Dawn said;-), including going to Video Fitness and checking out the reviews. There has been plenty of talk lately in the forum as well, so a search there might turn up some good tips.

I also just invested in the advanced live series of 12 tapes along with the Get Ripped Series. I've been doing quite a few of them over the last couple of weeks but none of them hit my upper back/lat area like my workout with Cardio Kicks yesterday;-). Must be those high punches towards the end:7.

One word of caution, if you haven't done a Taebo before, the advanced tapes are fast and you might want to invest in one of his instructional or a basic tape to start with. And, he isn't for everybody so finding one tape to look at might be better than buying a set of four.

I have to say I disagree. I hear Billy *VERY OFTEN* explaining how to do kicks punches etc. Especially in the new *get ripped* tapes (which are AWESOME AND VERY HARD) He says many times form is the most important so that you won't injure yourself. He is always saying to go back to the instructional or basic for proper form. Yes, he is fast pace, but always in your face to remind you about form/injury. I also have Cathe's kickboxing vids, which I love, but they are both very different. They really compliment each other. I guess with Billy you either love him or hate him. I also have seen awesome changes in my abs, because he is constantly reminding me to use/squeeze them with every move I do. I have incorporated this thinking in every exercise I do and never realized until I did Billy's workouts, how much you can and do use your abs while exercising. Just my two cents. By the way you can only get the *get ripped* series through QVC at this time. You may want to read the reviews first like has been recomended and maybe borrow one from someone first to see if He is for you. Happy exercising!! :0) Lori
