Stepping in Apartments?

Hi everyone
I just moved to Chicago to go to law school & am now living in a mid- rise apartment and I am not sure if I am going to be able to continue my Cathe workouts (yikes!) because I have hardwood floors & I don't want to annoy the people living below me.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!
Jessica

That's a tough one. I would get a thick rug or carpeting if possible and work with the downstairs neighbors. Discuss the issue with them and find out what they think. Maybe they're not home at times when you would be working out, or you can arrange a schedule that works for everyone.

One of the reasons I bought my apartment is that the living room happens to be on a thick, raised, soundproof platform. I have no idea how I got so lucky. I heard a former owner had a piano and had the platform built so he could play without disturbing the neighbors. Just luck on my part.

If you have any law school questions, maybe I can offer better advice regarding that... I graduated in 1990.

I used to have a neighbor below me when I lived an apartment who would bang on the floor (his ceiling) everytime me and my old roomate worked out. Unfortunately, we never really resolved it. Maybe just find out the hours of the person below you to make sure you don't work out when they are asleep.

This may sound crass, but I always just tell myself they could move to another room of their apartment for an hour. I live above someone and do think about what my workouts must sound like to them, but I'm just not willing to give up Cathe! Even if they complained, I'd just try to find out a way to do it when they aren't there...
