spray tan

I am thinking of going to a tanning salon & trying one of their spray on booths. Has anyone out there ever tried this? I'm a bit nervous about it.

I was an avid sun worshipper for years. Growing up in Florida sunburns were the norm. I've lived in New York for 17 yrs now & would still lay out in the sun & occassional tanning beds. 2 years ago had 2 spots of skin cancer removed, so SPF 50+ for me now. Wanting a little color for RT.

I don't want to come looking like a pumpkin either!!

Hi Tami! I own a tanning salon in Maine and I do custom spray tans. They look great and natural. The problem with them though is that if you sweat heavy it will rub off on your clothing. You also have to prepare your skin very well so it goes on smoothly without streaking. So keep your skin well hydrated and do not use anything on your skin such as perfumes or moisturizing body washes, etc about 8 hours before you get sprayed. If you have any other questions I'd be happy to answer them.

I would do the spray tan for a special occassion, but there is just something about spraying your body with chemicals (that is what you're doing) that makes me nervous. I've accepted being pale and just realize that I do and will continue to look younger than everyone else my age by staying pale. All of the other methods mess with your skin and are not/may not be safe. It's not worth the risk to me.

I agree with you toatlly about putting chemicals on your body like that. This is definately not something I would do on a reg basis!!

Sunless tanning is not bad for your skin. It contains DHA which is not a dye, stain, or paint, but a chemical reaction between DHA and the amino acids in the dead layer on the skins surface. The reaction is non-toxic and skin safe. It is also approved by the FDA, and recomended by the Skin Cancer Organization, American Academy of Dermatology, Canadian Dermatology Association, The American Cancer Society and the American Medical Association. I'm sure you use harsher stuff in your every day life and don't even know it. Are you not going to clean your house because you are inhaling chemicals from the cleaner your using?
