In someones picture trail they have an entertainment centerw/ 2 white fans on top. The whole floor in the room looks like it is covered w/ dark foam puzzle like pieces. What are they caled and where do you get them?

Hey there,

That is my room. :) You almost had the name right, they are called "Puzzle floor Mats." I got mine at Sams club for $15-17/pack. That was the cheapest that I found them. They are 2 feet square and you get 8 to a pack. The keep them in various places in the store, but the last I saw them they were over in the home/hardware area.

Other people have gotten theirs at Target and Dick's Sporting goods. For various prices. Here's a previous discussion about different types of floors:

I needed 3 packs to do the whole room. The one side is black and the other is either red, blue, yellow or green. I tried the color side and it was just too bright! Also I found (and others mentioned also) that the color side had a weird coating/film that made my shoes a little slippery, but the black side was just fine. Others have also mentioned that having the edges either butting up against something or putting weights on the corners helped them to keep the mats from moving.

Pinky (hippahips) has some beautiful wood-looking ones (www.greatmats.com) that I would LOVE to have, but I'd alread gotten these. DH agreed next time (since they cost more), but I think it'll be years before mine wear out! Which is a mixed blessing I guess.

Sorry I probably just told you WAY more that you wanted to know, but I like to be thorough. Hope this helps! :)

I also have some of the puzzle mats in my room, but they are a bit different than the ones Nadine has.

I got mine at Home Depot. They are solid color throughout, and don't have the slippery coating that has been mentioned on the others.

They came in packs of 4 and are also 2 feet square. If you'll check out my picturetrail link you can see what these look like. I used the grey ones on the bottom layer, and the multi colored ones as a top layer.

I am so glad I read this post! I have been trying to figure out why my mat is so "greasy"! I am going to turn it over to the all black side right now. Thanks!

I got mine from an ebay store seller. They're great!! I think I paid $14 for the pack, plus about $8 ground shipping.

Cool, thanks for your responses. I have seen the ones at Home Depot. I'm going to check out the wooden looking ones.

I am very curious what this "greasiness" on everyone's mats is. It's on the ones that come from Sam's, right? Odd!

My advice for sure is to get the ones from Home Depot! That way you won't have the greasy problem!

Just in case anybody is looking at the wood color ones....from any kind of distance these look exactly like a gym hard wood floor...really beautiful. My kid's tae kwon do dojo used a very similar floor and it wasn't til I actually stepped on the floor did I realize it was all squishy...and very comfortable. They used much bigger blocks, but I bet you would get the same effect from the smaller squares.

JeanMarie,

The greasiness isn't something you really notice until used/walked on them a bit. Then all of a sudden it's "WHOA, my shoe just slipped on the step!" DH said he noticed it on his bare feet too. I have NO idea what it is, or if it's just with that brand.

Glad to hear you didn't have problems. I like your colors better than mine too. In your pics they look pastel, but mine are more primary---ie. LOUD! :)
