Silly Question - plie jacks

Something I've been wondering for a long time. In the Cathe videos she calls the her slow jacks 'ply-o' jacks. Is this the same as plie jacks or not? If it is the same why is it pronounce ply-o? Isn't plie a ballet/dance term? I've always heard it pronounced 'plee-ay' (Or to Canadianize it - "plea eh?") Or am I confusing 2 different terms and movements and words and definitions?

Trish-this is not a silly question...many people probably have wondered the same thing but you had the guts to ask. Plyo jacks use plyometrics - I looked up the definition and this is what I found out: "Plyometrics are any exercise where the muscle is contracted eccentricly then immediately, concentricly. In plain English, the muscle is stretched (i.e. loaded) before it is contracted. A good example is push-ups with a clap in-between each push-up. Your muscle (pectorals in this case) is elongated and loaded by the downward force of your body, then immediately you must contract the muscle to push yourself back up." You were right when you said that plies are a ballet term. You are actually doing a plie when you are doing plie squats. Hope this helps...Pam
:D

Actually, what distinguishes plyo jacks from plie jacks is the fact that with plyo jacks, you land alternately with the legs abducted (wide apart in a squat stance) and adducted (with the legs together) whereas with plie jacks you adduct (bring the legs together) in the flight phase and always land with the legs abducted, in a somewhat wider stance with the legs in a moderate turnout. They are both plyometric, but with plie jacks you do begin the jack in a plie position.

I love both of them, but I must say plie jacks are tougher for me - if I hadn't had Cathe's plyo jack training beforehand for years I'd be dying through them.

Well, now I feel dumb...there must be a video where she does "plie jacks" and I've never seen it. What workout is that? Pam

oh ok, that's why...I don't have either of those workouts. I've knew exactly what plyo jacks were. Turns out I was the one needed some education on the difference between the two. pam

In Imax 2 airborne and plyo jacks are also in interval 5 and plie jacks in the dreaded interval 9. Spawn of Satan! LOL

Guess what, sportsfans:

As we speak I am developing a plie-jack-explosive-lunge leg power rotation that I'll be putting up on the Rotations forum pretty soon.

Stay tuned -
