Short sleeves on OUTERWEAR???????

OK it's kinda quiet here this week & obviously I'm getting caught up on my fashion news. :p

So I'm browsing a few websites & I keep seeing these 3/4, 1/2 & short sleeve coats. Some of the sleeves were flared & I shiver imagining the cold blasts the wearer would have to experience. These are not jackets--some of them are down & they're def. cold weather coats.

The absurdity! Whoever designed these MUST live in a warm climate. It was about 33 when I left for work this a.m., I had my faux shearling & wool gloves on. I'd have frozen my touchas off if my coat sleeves didn't reach my hands! And winter isn't even here yet--I wanna see some goof wearing one of these when temps dip below the 20s. ;)

What impractical fashion trend will we have to endure next?

Laura,

They must have designed them in CA or someplace very South.

I can remember (a very long time ago:)) it was rainy, wet snow in the middle of Winter and under my long sleeved heavy coat with a hood, I was wearing a mini skirt with a sweater. How odd is that?

Fashion, it's an important part of young peoples lives I guess. I suppose that is what makes a person popular or not (it was when I was young). Thank goodness we grow out of that stage. However, I do take what is comfortable/sensible about it and use it for my own way of dressing. If they have short sleeves on coats, then forget it, I'll buy something else.

What else have you noticed?

You're wearing gloves at 33??? What're going to do when winter hits?? 33 is jeans and a sweatshirt. Perhaps some knit gloves or mittens for extended outside times. I love the cold/winter!!!!! However, I can't stand when its really cold, so I have a coat/gloves/hat on to clean off the car, then I get in the car, and just about melt b/c its sooooo freakin' hot in there. I normally turn off the heat and crack the window. Even with the heat off, if the dial is turned to warm, the warm air from the engine still comes in just enough to keep me comfy w/out sweltering. Or I have to take all the outerwear off again, just so I can drive in comfort.

Ummmm yeah, I wear gloves when it's one degree above the freezing mark. Sorry, I guess I'm just not as tough as you are.

I have noticed the same thing in clothes catalogs this year and wondered who was thinking what when they designed these! In fact, I don't think I have ever seen so many short-sleeved sweaters, tops and dresses in fall/winter catalogs!

When it turns cold I turn on the heat and start layering sweaters, t-shirts - whatever it takes to keep warm because I hate to be cold!

And another thought - while I'm thinking about strange styles - what is up with "swing" jackets?

They look like maternity wear!!!!!!!

I saw the cutest leopard print swing jacket - and it had 3/4 sleeves. I tried it on and I looked like a pregnant lady who had swallowed the liberty bell!!! It was cute on the hanger, but not in real life. Sigh!

Laura, I didn't mean that to come off nasty, and I hope it didn't. On a re-read it kinda did. Didn't mean to be crabby. Its been one of those weeks!

Nan, you must be a FURNACE!!! My husband is fine in cold weather, too, yet I am wearing gloves and a hat and scarf when it is in the 40's - I have no tolerance for cold. I keep using that as the reason why we need to move someplace warm like AZ or HI.
I don't think your post came of nasty, but I am with Laura - I HAVE to wear gloves and layers and thick coats and I still freeze my tushy off - well, unfortunately I don't literally freeze it off. That would be nice, though. :p

Oh, if the style is trendy and cute, then the girls here in California will wear it no matter what the weather. It'll be 35 degrees and the girls will be dressed in flip flops, mini skirts and cami's. Then they'll wonder why they're cold. I'm totally serious. We also have the opposite - Uggs, short shorts and the puffy jackets with the faux fur hoods when it's 100 degrees. I sometimes wonder about the youth nowadays. Then I think back on what I did as a teen and just shut my mouth.

I know, I don't get it either. Whenever I go to anthropologie.com and look at the latest fashions, I am aghast. Everything is either short sleeved, no sleeved or three quarter sleeved, made of flimsy fabrics best suited to really hot Summers, and totally inadequate dresses and skirts with no length to them at all. Who is wearing this stuff?
