I saw this post on another forum. The question was, besides yourself, how many other people do you know that are fit? (clean eating, work out w/videos or belong to a gym, etc)

Besides myself, none of my friends or co-workers do. A friend of mine started getting into it but was in a car accident so that set her back. My brother is really into fitness though - extrememly clean eating and works out at the gym 4x/week.

Oh yeah, my 3 year old is learning by my good example and he has his own set of 2lb weights, loves broccoli and almost all veggies so I'm crossing my fingers that he's got a good start.

in my former job - no one worked out or ate properly. at my new job - only one other woman works out as diligently as I! most of my other girlfriends don't - but my husband does!

Well .... I know all of you guys :)

Other than that, I don't know anyone who works it like I do.

People on this board are a special breed.

What exactly is the definition of "clean eating"? Does it mean if I have 2 chocolate chip cookies for dessert, I'm a dirty eater?:) I keep seeing this and I am beginning to think of myself as a dirty eater.

hehe.. like shopgirl, I know all you guys, and we are special. I'm all alone in my real life world of fitness. My friend all complain about their weight but no one does anything about it. My hubby too, he supports me doing what I do but there is no way he's going near an exercise video.

And good job on your 3 yr old Dana! My 8 and 10 yr olds rebel against my food, but I am able to trick them once in a while when I'm feeling nice and not forcing them :)

I think the term "clean eating" came from the bodybuilding, fitness competitor world, where it means avoiding foods that would tend to add fat and not muscle, or in any way counteract the positive effects of workouts.

Avoiding bad and excess fats, sugars, processed foods in general is what I think of as clean eating.

What planet do I live on??

Most of the people I know are at least as fit as I am. My parents and my brothers are all health nuts. They've all been vegetarians at some point in their lives, and I have never been (although I've avoided red meat for about 25 years).

Most of the people I know, including family, co-workers and clients, play tennis, which I am appallingly bad at. My brother-in-law is a personal trainer. In fact, one of the few people I know who is less fit than me is my husband, the computer nerd. He loves his work so much and he is so busy with it that he is more sedentary than most people, and he is seriously overweight. But even he loves bike riding, goes out as often as he can, and has entered 5 different bike marathons this year.

Since all I do is go to the gym and work out with Cathe, my father and others say I'm "not an athlete". Which of course they are. But what I do makes me happy and I'm very healthy! So, who cares if I'm not an "athlete"?

Living in the outer rim territory?

I work with a group of heath nuts. My cube neighbor is more nutty than I am. She must do 90 min workout every day to be happy and runs half marathons. Her boyfriend is a tri-athlete. The co-worker across the isle is into body building and protein power. There is another marathoner down the isle, and another person told me that 2-hour back-to-back step workouts at YMCA are fun.

But I am the only one (at work) collect workout DVDs as a hobby...

RE: Living in the outer rim territory?

I guess I'm pretty lucky to work in an office that is fairly healthy (as far as telecom computer geeks go) :) Of course we have quite a few sedentary people, but we also have several people who are into tennis, bodybuilding (or at least serious weight training), eating healthy, and just basically being fit. I think it started with just a few people -- but now I think more people are jumping on the bandwagon. I, myself, have assimilated 2 people so far :) They both go to the gym on a pretty regular basis now.

Of course I am the only one who knows the power of Cathe! I did, however, give my Pure Strength videos away to a co-worker recently. Hopefully she'll get hooked too.

My SO is pretty active (although business travel keeps him from sticking to a schedule). A few of our mutual friends are also pretty active (flag football tournaments, going to the gym, basketball, softball). Most of my friends (in the DFW area) come from the gym -- so of course they are active.

None of my biological family is active, nor would they have a clue about "clean eating". Also, none of the people I grew up with (in MO) are active.

I think, perhaps, I gravitate to active people now (and maybe they gravitate to me too). The geographical location may also have something to do with it. I grew up in a small town in MO (um...there was no such thing as a gym). Now I live in Dallas -- can you say a gym around every corner?.

RE: Living in the outer rim territory?

Dana--your young son probably has himself a good start that will last a lifetime. My oldest son (now 20) was alwaya healthy eater. I called him my little alfalfa srout. His bro--now 18, I called my cookie monster, and his habits have never been as good. Sigh. ;)

RE: Living in the outer rim territory?

I only know five other people that work out as much as I do. Most people I work with are overweight and out of shape. My sister loves exercising and my SIL is a competitive runner.

I do have one very good friend that's at least 75 lbs overweight but works out four days a week. She carries her weight very well because of it. She loves to eat out and really enjoys life but also likes to work out!
