Running low

Hey, I was jogging today, doing my normal 4 mile jog, when I was about 2/3 of the way through I just didn't have the energy to finish so I walked. I had a breakfast before with my high fiber cereal and I drank some sips of water beforehand as well, but other than the temperature which was about 80 degrees I can't think of why I turned into a slug. Strange!

I felt sort of like I couldn't get into a good groove and I felt more breathless than usual. Anyone have this experience? I guess I will chalk it up as my body telling me I needed to rest, and then I will try again tomorrow.

I've had it happen. Mostly where my legs feel heavy. Could be you need a rest day. Could also depend on the workout you did the previous day and possibly what you ate for dinner....:)...Carole

Another thing to consider: Is the change in temperature sudden?

It usually takes a week or two for you to acclimate to running in warmer weather.

Yep, happened to me last weekend. My problem was that it had been eight days since I had a rest day. As Carole said, you could just need some rest. I had strung too much high cardio days together.

THis hapens to me occasionally. Schedule several days off, not just one. Get to bed extra early for a couple of days. Check your hormones: what time of the month is it for you? if it's after day 15, it could well be sudden plunges in hormone levels that are doing it to you. If you are taking a week's break from artificial hormones, this will do it to you. Make sure you are taking your multivitamins, with iron. Get your blood checked to make sure you are not anaemic or borderline anaemic. Also consider what's going on in your life right now: what's on your mind? What are you anxious about? Are you more anxious thatn usual? Anxiety also drains energy.

I know that I need a rest day from running when my legs feel like lead weights. Running is interesting in that it really depletes the energy/glycogen stores like nothing else.

On the weekends I normally do 1 hour cardio video, 1 hour strength. and a 3-4 mile run. I can only do it for the weekend though because I am physically tired on that 3rd day, my muscles are sore, and I am more breathless (dehydrated) than normal.

weather is a very important factor, low humidty is great for running, but as the runners before me said, the food you ate a nite before, my experience is if I ate a good meal base with complex carbs, I run like a chita the next morning and I dont have to push hard at all, if I ate a lite dinner I felt a little bit low energetic, must be the atp in your muscles which is base on your food intake, remember that good carbs as complex are a great source of energy for running!!!

The older I get the more I love me.
