RUNNING in COLD weather

My husband used to run years ago and is starting it back up. Why he's starting in the winter who knows, but nonetheless since I'm not a runner at all I wanted to get him some cold weather running gear. What are some must-have's for running outside in cold weather???

Thanks!

http://www.underarmour.com/ has great stuff for the cold weather. a bit expensive but the best there is. hubby had some starter shirts similar to this material but we can be darned where we can find them anymore. i wear layers mostly b/c of the blistering wind so of course i have to a hat that covers part of the face and ears as well as some gloves. i am not picky about my outer layer. i wear a hooded sweatshirts or an atheltic jacket or something. i am probably not the best to ask b/c i am simple as long as i have the right pants, shoes, and shirt the rest is just simple LOL.

The most important thing is layering, and, when it is very cold, he should layer running tights under looser pants. Gore-tex is on the expensive side, but it is well worth it for jackets and looser running pants. Under the jacket, I would layer a thin shirt, a heavier shirt, and then a jacket. I also used to layer gloves under mittens, and headband under the hood of my jacket. Roadrunner Sports is a great resource for running gear.

I second Caitlin's advice to go to RRS. That's awesome of you to get him some gear- he'll need it!

I have some Nike Therma Fit pants (which I got for $20.00 at Marshall's!), a Therma Fit Nike golf jacket and vest which I tried out walking on a golf course today. It worked out fine, especially the pant. My son has worked a this golf course for 6 years and I've not walked it until last week. Today I walked the whole thing (9000 steps on my pedometer). This will be my new winter workout - golf course walking. I'm thinking about getting snow shoes, also.
