rubber tiles and Imax

I bought those type of rubber tiles you sometimes see in playgrounds to stop the thumping noises of my treadmill when I'm running on it. No need to wait till my neighbours complain, right? This works fine.

I was wondering if I could use these tiles to do the Imaxes. See, puzzle mats are terribly expensive overhere. I would need six and it would cost me nearly 400 euro. Those rubber tiles would only cost me 140 euro. I haven't used either Imax 1 or 3 cause they aggrevate my knees too much (unlike Imax 2).

What do you think, can I use them??

Dutchie,

How think are they? I think you are talking about the thinner ones...right?

If you're talking about what I think you are talking about, these should work, but you will need more than you think. I found that I didn't have enough my foot would slip off the edge which is really annoying. Also, I found that these do not remain stationary with just the step on top, you will need them to be secured to the floor.

I have 12 really big/thick ones and 4 of the smaller thinner ones (I put those out on the sides. My workout space is strictly for that purpose so I don't have to move things around. I don't know if that will be an issue for you or not. The IMAX workouts will have you all over the place so you need much cushion....

Hope this helps some....

Dutchie:

thi depends upon the thickness of the rubber. If you sink into them somewhat when you tread and jump on the rubber tiles, then I think they are probably too spongy. You don't want to workout on a surface you sink into, or one that creates any drag or resistance because not only is there the risk of injury, but it makes your workout that much harder because you don't "bounce back" from the moves. The rubber could take away some of your momentum and energy if it's too spongy. Do you see?

Have you considered getting a large piece of carpet that has the fine weave, dense weave, with a hard but level surface, no pile or plush?

Thanks, I decided to go with the rubber tiles. They are firm. I did 10 jumping jacks and 10 plie jacks on the ones I bought to put underneath the treadmill. Then repeated on the floor and boy do I notice a difference in my knees. It's like when you buy new aerobics shoes. They also always seem to make the jumping much softer don't they?
