Rotating Workouts

Here's a bit of a loaded question for you. I know I should change my workout routine from time to time to "shake things up." Do results very based on how often you do this? For example, would I see more & faster results if I stick with a program for 12 weeks & then change or change it up each week? Is there a difference between how often to change a cardio routine as opposed to a weight lifting routine in order to get faster results? Thanks. CE
