I have found another great way to occupy myself during this deployment...marathon training:) I just registered today for the marathon in SFO on October 24. My actual training for this won't start until 16 weeks before..but I am going to prepare myself now. I have a bit of a problem with procrstination..and this isn't the time for it:)
Have any of you marathoned before? Any tips or advice? I can't even imagine the feeling of completing 26.2 miles..I CAN NOT WAIT to experience it for myself!!!

That's great! I live in Boston; we just had our marathon last week, and every year on that day, I vow to do it the following year! Then I go out for a 5-mile jog the next day, realize how tough it would be, and say no way!:p Seriously, though, I think it must be an incredible feeling to actually do one. Maybe someday...being a runner in Boston definitely makes you want to try for it at least once! Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!

My coach swears I have plenty of time to prepare for this thing...I am putting myself in her trusting hands:) I would say I am a beginner runner..I can do 5 miles..a far cry from 26.2. But I am going into this thing full of excitement and determination. I WILL FINISH:) DH should be home for the race..but you never can tell. It would be AMAZING to have him there at the finish line..what a way to end a deployment:)

How wonderful for you. I have always wanted to run a marathon but haven't yet. I have done 1/2 marathons and am comfortable with that distance. My biggest concern is all the feet problems I have had over the last several years, I've just been running occasionally 5-7 miles, and doing mostly Cathe workouts instead.

Training is intense but if you just follow the training schedule, you will indeed be ready in 16 weeks.

Good Luck to you and please let us know how your training goes when you get started later this summer.

That is so AWESOME!!!! I ran my 1st in 1997 and 10 since. Having a coach will be great for you. I get alot of tips from www.runnersworld.com , I also think a 16 week training schedule is very good. I usually did 12 weeks, but had a good base of 30-40 miles per week before I started training. Good luck and let us know how your progress is going. I am so excited for you...:)...Carole

I have ran 4 half marathons, I still have not attempted a full marathon. You will do great!!!

Good luck and I hope your husband is home to see you finish. My husband is leaving in May for 4 months or more.

Have a great day!! :D

Thank you Ladies for all of your encouragement..I start running this Saturday to build my endurance before the 16 week training schedule. I know it is going to be one of the most difficult things I will ever do and I am looking forward to every minute of it:)

Thank you all again..it gave me an extra boost:)

Just remember is it soooo much mental. The one thing I wish I would have done was to print out or write on my arms uplifting things. I definitely could have used it to get out of my funk. I couldn't get one positive thought into my head after mile 17!

If it weren't for an angel that met up with me at mile 22, I don't think I would have finished.

You do have to train your body, but you also have to train your mind. Think positive always!

Good Luck!!!
