I'm so excited! It's on 18 August at a vineyard (isn't that cool??), so I have 8 weeks to train up. I'm already running about 5 miles on my treadmill, but the actual 5k is a road course, so I know it'll be really different.

Any words of wisdom? :)

Hi MC!

Congrats on registering for the race. You'll have a blast! Racing is so much fun! :)

If you are a treadmill runner then you definately want to try to hit the road atleast once a week during your race training. It IS very different. Harder for most in fact (but not all).

Running through a vinyard? Wow. That's going to be so beautiful. Enjoy!

Watch out - you'll get hooked, that's all I have to say ;)

Congrats - my only advice is on running through a vineyard is...........

NO WHINING, lol (pun fully intended...)

Hi MC,

Congratulations! I did my first 5K in February and will be doing my 4th 5K on Saturday on St. George Island. You will definitely get hooked on these things. I have a whole schedule of 5Ks, 8Ks, and 10Ks planned for the rest of the year, with a half-marathon scheduled for the end of December.

I can't give you any advice regarding treadmill running as I did all my running outside. Just enjoy yourself and have fun. My first thought on race days is, why? But after you cross the finish line you'll have the answer.

Check back and let us know how you did on the race.

I agree with this! Try to get outside at least once a week during your training so you can get a feel for the road. For me, running on the road is EASIER than running on the treadmill, but I am not the norm. Treadmill running uses the leg muscles in a different way than road running, because the treadmill is pulling you as much as you are pushing against it. It's just "different". So make sure you get a taste of the road before your race. :)

Good luck! I'm sure you'll do awesome! :D
