Rediscovered a former fitness love

Hi Cathletes!

So, today atthe Y I rediscovered my love of swimming laps! I had forgotten how zen-like it is while also being an excellent workout! It got me thinking while I was swishing through the water that it's one of the only times I'm just in my head and body while working, not talking to anybody as I do on many of my walks, no music blaring in the workout classes, no TV distracting me on the machines, no talk and music watching workout DVD's, just the sound of the water moving and my breath.

I swear I felt my body smile and thank me for a great non-impact workout! :D I believe I have found a new love!! :D:D

Happy Wednesday!

Sounds great Pam, it was obviously exactly what you needed on this particular day. On other days, you will welcome instead the screaming music in the headphones!

There is a lot to be said for being on your own, inside your head, and focusing solely on your breathing an the rhythmic motion of your body. Yoga isn't the only activity which can help us achieve inner peace: cardio sports involving repetitive motion also offer a meditative effect.

Enjoy!

Hi Clare!

Sooo true about th distractions vs. Ze-like workouts. It's always great to mix things up! :D

Happy Wednesday!

This post makes me laugh because I just finished my 2nd morning of laps as one of my new cross training activities. Running is my zen and I can absolutely zone out and just go. This morning while I was concentrating on stroke, breathing, adjusting my goggles and looking to see when the edge of the pool was coming up it was anything but zen! But I got a good workout and I'm hoping once my technique improves that I can achieve the zen state for swimming as well!
