I am wondering how often people take "time off" from working out. I typically work out for about an hour 5-6 days a week. I am 5 feet weigh about 112. Discovered Cathe through fit tv. I've been a home gym person forever. Love Cathe's workouts because they are always challenging. I find that during THAT WEEK (most women will know what I mean) my body is so tired I really struggle to even do a half hour. Yet I've heard that exercise is so good for PMS, cramps etc.... I've never had any formal coaching so I'm not sure if I should just struggle through it or listen to my body and maybe take 3 or so days off. Would really appreciate any suggestions.

I think everyone is different at that time of the month! Me, I can still workout. It actually makes me feel better! However, I have a friend that just can't do anything during that week because her symptoms are so bad! She can't go one hour without problems. I don't want to get graphic here, but I'm sure you can imagine! So, she doesn't workout during that week.

If you wanted to experiment with it to see how it would make you feel, I say try it! You might find your symptoms subside somewhat and you feel better. Of course, there is the possibility it will make you feel worse, but you never really know until you try it!

Thanks Tricia. Some months are worse then others too, so maybe sometimes take time off , sometimes don't.

Hi Judy!
I agree with Tricia, it's really an individual thing. I also get very tired and low energy during that time of the month. I can't do anything too intense. If I'm following a formal rotation, I give myself major slack that week and try to do some more low intensity things. I like to go for nice long walks, or do some kind of short, fun cardio like Turbo Jam. The cardio does help with cramping for me, but like I said, I can't do anything too intense because of my low energy. Don't be afraid to take time off if you need it! Rest is always good now and then. I workout 5x per week, anything more than that for me is too much. I can just tell when my body needs an extra day here or there to recover, and I take the time to rest up. Just listen to your body in regards to rest, don't feel you need to struggle through it. Like Tricia said, just experiment!

Hope this helps! :)

I am like you, I have no energy, on top of being bloated and having everything inside slosh around at any movement. Also, I have never been the person who gets more energy from working out. I could take a nap anytime. So, the older I get, the more I listen to my body and don't exercise when I am feeling lousy. That being said, this summer has been a summer of sloth for me. The kids go back to school Monday (boo hoo), so I am hoping to get back on the wagon.

So I'm not crazy

Hi! Thanks for your reply! It sounds like your like me, you don't like it when your kids go back to school. I always hear exactly the opposite. Mom's seem to get so excited that their kids are going back. I love when my kids are home and I get to spend more time with them. But I've never been able to stay home with them (they are now 16 and 19). So I guess I might feel different if I had more time with them when they were growing up. The time has just gone by too fast.
