I'm just wondering if any of you have found yourself in a simliar stuation, and what you did about it:

I pulled one of the muscles in my glutes last week on the day I did Carido Kicks and (later that pm) Angles, Lines, & Curves II. I've looked at all sorts of muscle charts, etc. and can't figure out if it's the gluteus maximus OR the gluteus medius. I can feel it in the upper middle left glute, and I feel it when I walk or shift my weight from one leg to the other.

Anyway, what is the best way to deal with this? I've been doing a lot of stretching, etc., but it's almost as if I feel it more NOW than I did a few days ago. I'm staying away from anything kickbox-related (ie: CMAX, PC, CK) until it heals, but what exercises should I be doing and/or avoiding?

If anyone else has experienced this before, PLEASE let me know what you did!!!

Thank you!
Sarah :)

Hey Sarah,

My daughter pulled her glute stretching in ballet. Her dance instructor told her not to do ANYTHING that caused her to "feel" that muscle twitch. If she felt any pain at all--the slightest twinge--she was to stop doing what she was doing (unless of course it was a short sitting or standing up movement). It took about 4 weeks to heal.

Not what you wanted to hear, I'm sure, but it's better to sit it out than to do more damage.

Thanks, Deborah. You're right, that's something I did NOT want to hear, but it's better than further injuries, right? Did your daughter have any recurring trouble at all after it initially healed? Did she find that doing anything in particular (in addition to NOT doing anything to "feel" the muscle) helped her heal? This is actually the first major pulled muscle I've ever had, and I'm a little new at this. Thanks for your input!

Hey Sarah,

Nope, she didn't do anything in particular. She just laid off the stretching--which really made it hurt. She was just very careful in how she moved. And she waited a few days after she stopped feeling that twinge before she tried to stretch again. It took about a month.

You know I was doing ME yesterday after having done PLB on Monday. I was really sore on Tuesday & still a little sore on Wednesday. Yesterday when I was doing ME, I could REALLY feel my glutes when I was doing those daggone lunges. I thought about you & my advice to you. When I started feeling it was more than just the "normal burn" I quit.

Be really careful & you'll heal faster.

Deborah,

Thanks again for answering my questions & I hope YOUR glutes are feeling better as well! I don't have the Intensity Series yet, but am hoping to get them as a graduation present (I keep dropping hints to my husband!). Take care & thanks for your help!

Sarah :)
