Question for Sherry..sinewmanpt

Sherry, quick question....and I'm sure it's been asked before. Of course it's regarding shoulders.

How long have you worked out to receive those striated shoulders. I think I've been a little unrealistic in my expectations of my progress, but it would help to know how long it really took you to achieve this. It feels like I've been working out for years....but can one really count the time spent doing Jane Fonda videos...unsure of that answer. To be quite honest I've only been really lifting weights for probably a year plus maybe 4 months and 2-3 weeks off to have a baby. Part of that was a few months of Francesca Gern Weights III video which is relatively mild but alright. I've really only done Cathe and more intense lifting for the last 10 months. I am getting bigger and more defined, but it's slow and with my arms hanging down I really don't have that much definition yet...not as much as I want!! I'd welcome anyone else to respond also.

Hey Briee, I can't answer definitively but I've been doing Cathe for 2 years, only going heavy this last 6 or 8 months. I'm JUST starting to get some definition. The tank top rotation has really helped.

I posted some pics on the cathe addicts page. If you read the name of the file at the bottom of each pic, you'll see the first 3 were taken in February before the tank top rotation & the last 3 were just last week. There is a difference in my entire body that can't be seen if you don't open 2 windows & put the pictures side by side (in my opinion anyway).

I've read recently that it can take a year to get the kind of definition we are looking for. I KNOW that diet has a huge part in that, too.

I would also be interested to hear what Sherry has to say about her arms.

Deborah....thanks so much for sharing your pictures - they're great keep up the good work!! And, I love to "see" who I'm talking to!! I looked at DebbieH's also, she's so cute!! I've got to get some of our family taken....soon, before I don't fit in the picture!

I've been doing variations of the tank top rotation for some time now, probably a couple of months, I always work upperbody 3 times per week and guess I will continue to plug away and hope to see MORE muscle development and definition appear one day. Thanks for your response.

Hi Briee! Thank you once again for your reference to my shoulders!:+.
You know, honestly, I'm not sure what I've done! I started what I thought was lifting heavy way back when the first Firm came out. I noticed even from that amount of weight, I seemed to gain muscle definition pretty easily in my upper body. In the last two years, I've been trying to really lift heavy with Cathe and that's when I noticed a huge difference. Yesterday I was looking at some pics from last year and I was really surprised at the difference between then and now. I think I have noticed a lot more definition, both upper and lower body since I lift as heavy as I can and not rush through my workouts. I used to try to get as much done in a day...you know the thinking..the more the better. Like you, I do upper body three times a week. I'm not sure if I need to, but it seems to work for me.HTH some!:D

Deborah, You look great! Isn't it just so rewarding to see results? BTW, I read a post where you had said you were going to teach Body Pump? Are you still planning on doing it? Sounds like a lot of fun! Good luck if you do.:7

Hey Briee!

You are too sweet or is this a tactic to get me to post? Tee-Hee! Thanks for the nice compliment. Now, I only wished I looked as young as I did in those pix 2 years ago! Ha! Looking forward to seeing a pix of your whole tribe. I'm waiting!!!!

RE: Hey Briee!

Sherry, thanks for your response. So if you started lifting in a firm type fashion when they just came out....that was like 10-11 years ago? (somebody correct me if I'm wrong, I just remember buying the FIRM's first tape when our daughter was born and she is 10), but you've been doing Cathe (heaviest lifting you can) for two years. This gives me some idea. IT WILL COME. (that's what I keep telling myself!!). I look back at your pictures every so often just for some motivation. Those delts are just incredible.

I'm hoping things are going better at home? That too takes time and is far more important than shoulder's :) :) :) .

Debbie, made ya post, made ya post, ha ha. No really, I meant what I said, you look like a really fun aerobic instructor too, are you still teaching at your church? My goal one day is to take one of Cathe's classes in person, one of Aquajocks classes, and it would be so much fun to take one of yours (not in that order as I'm still quite sure I will drowned in AJ's,) hey maybe if Deborah's teaching body pump, I could get in on one of hers!! One day!!!!!

Briee you may want to try working 1 body part a day or something different even though you are using different tapes 3x a week your body is probaly growing accustomed to the 3x a week routine.I like to do a body part a day and lift as heavy as possible. But even though this is my favorite way to lift I switch things up.I sometimes will do ps and sh and ps in a row(9 days) and then a rest day.And sometimes 3x a week upper body.I am always changing everything about my workouts and it works well for me.I have good upper defintion and what I call "freaky shoulders" they are well defined but also you can see my bicep shape from the back side as well as the front(turning your back to the mirror and flexing). But I to have worked out starting with the firm for 11years.But it has been in the last 2 year discovering body for life and cathe that has transformed my strengh and defintion.Good luck Briee.

Hi Briee....

Yes, I still teach at a church. It is not MY church but a church in the community we lived for about 25 years. I rent their fellowship hall. We have moved about 20 minutes away. Seems like more of a drive since it used to take me 5 minutes to get there! :p Let me know when you can come and join us! Good Luck with those shoulders. I'm sure they look great. Where is your pix???

Thanks for your comments shelia, it appears I'm just going to have to give it a little more time. I'd love to see your pictures if you have any.

Debbie, I have to figure out the picture program in order to get the pictures out. I'll probably have to have my 13 year old explain it to me!! SOON, I hope.

Ok, Briee...

Don't get offended here, but aren't you picking the ABSOLUTE WRONG TIME to get definition?? Surely it will elude you until 12-17-2003!!!! Just my thoughts....:):)

okay ms janice......

...did I ask your opinion???????? :p :p :p :p Get off of my thread (and quit pointing out the obvious while your at it)!!!!! :7 :7 :7

You know I'm kidding. ;-) ;-) ;-)

I'm actually hoping to continue building some muscle and once baby is born I can spend the next few months cutting weight. It's just hard to give up my goal even though I'm prego if that makes sense. You are absolutely right in that I'm not going to see much definition development at this point, but hopefully I can continue to build a good solid muscle foundation. I built most of my current muscle when I was pregnant with my last baby, so I know it can be done (wisely of course). I may have to lower my expectations a tad though.

I always appreciate your comments Janice!!

RE: okay ms janice......

Hi,
I thought I was the only one having trouble building shoulders. I keep thinking after all the work I've put in shouldn't I have nice ones by now? Then I read that it takes a couple of years maybe more for some...so it is rather premature for me to sulk since I haven't even made the 7 month mark!!!
The Pyramids have done good things though this summer I can actually wear a tank top and not look too fat! Cathe rules!

RE: okay ms janice......

Thank you RACH, this is what I was wondering. My other body parts seem to be developing, but my shoulders are behind!! And even with weights, I seem to move up with other areas, but those shoulders are so stubborn!!

Of course my ABS are developing BEAUTIFULLY!!! You can almost SEE them grow. :) :) :) :)
